When Russia boycotted the UN Security Council, we were able to push through UN military interventions in Korea. This sounds like a bad idea . . .

The UNHRC, which includes member countries cited for mass human rights abuses, is poised on Monday to adopt at least five anti-Israel resolutions

Oh, FFS. Who cares what the UNHRC declares? It's a one-day news item, with no more relation to reality than the Trump administration's declarations.

Now you've done it.  Bevetstein will be along shortly to fill the remainder of this thread with a detailed explaination of how human rights violations are the tinfoil hat anti-semites use to keep zion out of their brainwaves.

And yet I see this exact way of thinking every time election rolls around.

The Trump administration told the Free Beacon it is fully committed to voting against "every resolution" targeting Israel and that it will encourage allies to do the same.

Except these ones, that you are throwing a Trumper tantrum over.

How about a new policy of "let's cut the majority of "support" we provide and let Israel, a country that has existed longer than most current humans have been alive, stand or fall on their own".  Of course that won't happen because 1. then our arms manufacturers don't have an easy way to sell more stuff on the US credit card and 2. there will no longer be the easy way to create more "terrorists" who tend to cite our support as a reason for their hatred.

And white phosphorous demonstrates the high value of this Palestinian school children to the Israeli army. No-one wants their child burned to death with racially inferior phosphorous. Poor Israelis, they're trying to meet all you people abhorred by the evil of their war crimes in the middle. What more do you want from them?

Listen, Israel... I like the idea of you, I like that you're a relatively stable western-style government in a part of the world that just doesn't have enough of that, but I need you to back off the brutality shiat.  That's all.

If you need to make your territory contiguous by expelling the Palestinians from the gaza strip and solidifying your borders... okay do that.  Put up a DMZ and get on it.  But stop starving them and blowing them up all the time.

Palestinians you knock that shiat off too.  I know the only thing you've got right now is pride, but swallowing your pride and doing the shiat that you need to do rather than the shiat you want to do is the way forward.  You won't win a fight with these people.  Ever.

That means you need to figure out a new way forward, not just keep trying to fight that war.  You're not getting a right to return, and they're not giving you back the settlements.  You're also not getting Jerusalem.  They won't give that to you and nobody is going to make them, least of all you, your military power is basically beneath their notice and literally everyone including you knows it.  It sounds really good to say "X violates international law," but the thing about that is nobody farking cares.  Nobody is going to award you that territory.  Any resolution would never pass Israel's allies, and even if they DID, what of it?  Nobody is going to commit troops to come take back those settlements form a shiatload of US military hardware and (probably) some nukes.

What you want is a non-starter.  That's just how it is.  You can keep forcing the issue to try and make a point that isn't going to get made or have any effect on the world, or you can just farking deal with your situation finally.

It's been like 50 years, if you haven't won yet you ain't gonna.  Get your farking people in housing that's not going to be bulldozed with secure food/building supply lines.

Sarcasm meter...sarcasm meter...where did I put that thing...

Although you might be right in a limited sense. Leaving a UN council is one way to not be constrained by that particular council and a number of resolutions. But there is always a cost, and not just something silly like "reputation."

If I remember correctly, it's something about how the Jewish state needs to exist in order for Jesus to return.

It helps to explain things when you find out there's a large strain of American Christian fundamentalists that only support Israel because the Jews taking the Holy Land back (and then dying in nuclear fire) is a necessary precursor to the Second Coming of Jesus.

They support Israel in the same way that a farmer helps a turkey up to the chopping block while thinking about a nice Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm actually not being sarcastic, but I am over-reacting. My bias comes from the irrelevant fact that the "ethics" groups I've worked with in the past (medical research) have been universally useless. I shouldn't be applying this experience to the UN group.

Although you might be right in a limited sense. Leaving a UN council is one way to not be constrained by that particular council and a number of resolutions. But there is always a cost, and not just something silly like "reputation."

I didn't think Israel's reputation would be influenced one way or another by yet another UN declaration, but you might be right.

It's a wee bit more complicated than that.  They believe that Revelations is a letter-perfect description of the end of the world.  So, if Jews are mentioned as being in the Middle East, they have to be there, come Hell or high water.  The next step is that if you can set up the situation so that real life exactly matches Revelations ("exactly matches Revelations" being defined as "whatever Hal Lindsey is spouting this hour") then God will be forced to invoke the end of the world.  So, it isn't that they want Jews in Israel simpkly because Revelations says the Jews need to be there as a necessary precursor to the end of the world, but if they can get the Jews there and then have said Jews die in a particularly awful way, they can command God to give them their perfect 1950s small-town Iowa Heaven.

Perhaps Trump has already stopped paying our membership dues to the U.N., as so frequently happens when Trump gets an invoice.

And perhaps he's not so much boycotting the U.N. as he's gotten us locked out of the goddamn building.

The tsunami of evangelical cash rolling into Israel every year is so they'll hurry up and build that third temple already so Jesus will hurry up and come back and burn alive forever every man, woman and child on this earth for the crime of failing to think Jesus was magic.

Those to be burned alive for all eternity include the Jews.  The Jews know this and know they are being used by shiny white Christians who actually hate their Jewish guts.  A rabbi in Israel commented on this in a documentary:  "If the American Christians feel so strongly about sending us money, who are we to refuse??"

Right now there's a mosque smack-dab on top of where the third temple must be built.  If the Jews so much as breathe on that mosque, the resulting nuclear blast from their Muslim neighbors will ensure there's nothing left for Jesus to come back to.

You have to understand that Evangelical belief is that a Jewish state must exist (as long as all the world's Jews living in said state) in order to bring about the second coming of Jesus, rapture all the evangelicals to heaven and send all the Jews to hell.
This is exactly why repubs hate American Jews and love Israel. In fact, about a decade ago there was a non profit led by evangelicals that tried to get Jews to move out of the US and to Israel. After running commercials for a couple months they quickly shut down, having offended too many Americans.
