You're welcome, NC

It was actually pretty awesome to watch a 'neutral site' NCAA game where 90% of the fans are against Duke. It probably didn't help Duke that a good portion of the UNC crowd was there too :)

The blue bloods get a ton of NCAA site advantages to begin with. Really, the Midwest sweet sixteen bracket is played 40 miles away from Kansas?

You vote with your dollar more often and with more impact than the one you cast every two years or so.

Stupidity like backing this stupid bathroom bill should hurt.

Since it doesn't I'm happy to accept negative economic consequences as an alternative.

Don't let Pat McCrony take all the blame.  The North Carolina Genital Assembly is equally as guilty, since they passed the damn thing.

I'm sorry I can't do that, bob.

They should wave their Confederate flags proudly today.

I'm torn.  On the one hand, discrimination is bad.  On the other hand, it did keep Duke out of the Sweet 16.

When I think tolerance, I think South Carolina.

I'm sure there are some good christians in SC planning to remedy that and write their own genitalia and chromosome inspection legislation, as soon as they figure out how to do it in a genteel way. And a way that doesn't require children to be exposed to satanic concepts like genetics or science.

Who would have thought a decade ago that South Carolina would be the tolerant one?  I mean seriously Confederate flag wavers versus people voting for Obama.  Shows despite the research triangle that most folks in North Carolina are pretty damn stupid.

NC is actually 2 states; a corridor running from Charlotte N/NE to Raleigh and Winston Salem, with business, banking, world class universities, research, tech and all the sports that matter around here (both college and pro). The rest of the State is still running a good generation behind in almost every respect, but through gerrymandering they have overtaken and locked down the legislature. So, we here in NC are at the mercy of the rural rubes at least until the 2020 census. And they eat shiat like HB2 up like ice cream, and their reps know it.

That's pretty much all states.   Heatmap of the USA shows it's basically educated urban society vs ignorant rural tribes for most political issues.   It's a cultural issue -- learning to live with those that are different than you are, and understanding that government services can be a great use of your tax dollars are things educated city dwellers learn fairly early on.   Even uneducated city dwellers get it.    Rural America is still stuck in "we don't need no gubment or forriners" stigginit mode.

Yeah but where is the equivalent corridor in SC?  And I say this as someone with friends at USC (the original one) and Clemson.

Which is funny, because most of "rural America" wouldn't have electricity or phones without the help of the "gubment".

I won't even get into farm subsidies. I live in Iowa, I've lived here my whole life, and farm subsidies are *absolutely essential* to EVERY farm in the state. Literally NO farmer would turn a profit without the subsidies that the state and federal governments give them. I'm not talking about "tax breaks", either. I'm talking full-on "Here, farmer, take this huge pile of money to run your farm"-subsidies.

But yeah, they all think they are somehow libertarian business geniuses that built their farm with their own 2 hands. Using the land they inherited from their dad, who inherited from his dad, who inherited it from HIS dad.

/grandparents were farmers
/they voted Democrat their whole lives
/living through the Great Depression when you were a kid in rural Iowa will make you appreciate government help

Start in Charleston, head 1 hour North/NW to Columbia. The rest of the state is a dump until you hit Rock Hill. And, yes, that includes the Redneck Riviara (Myrtle Beach). Hilton Head is a retirement island. I worked in communications in the Myrtle Beach area in the early 90's, and many towns still didn't have 10 digit phone numbers. The first house with an outhouse I ever saw was less than a 15 minute drive from The Grand Strand (Myrtle Beach), and that was in 1994.

When South Carolina is seen as the progressive Carolina, you know you have a real problem.

I was generalizing. There are oasis like Greenville (like Florence and Huntsville, AL, or Savannah, GA).
