Athletes and firefighters get ALS at a higher rate than the general public. Nobody knows why.

That's absolutely the prime suspect, but it also may have to do with exertion or an extreme fluid cycle. Those guys fighting forest fires drink multiple gallons a day without taking a piss.

He lost his entire fortune to Bernie Madoff and had to unretire to get paying gigs. All the money he lost probably doesn't seem as important now.

There's a musician named Jason Becker who has ALS. He's had it for about 27 years now. Still composes music with a special computer built by his father. Heartbreaking, yet inspiring.

I lost my cousin many years ago to ALS. Terrible disease.

I love A Little Ain't Enough.  Definitely some great guitar work on it.  Too bad he never got to tour.  But yes, I'm glad he's still making music.

When football players get the disease disproportionally, then you might speculate that it could be something to do with football, might you not?

Honestly, the course of action is to have a final farewell party, get your affairs in order and go to the clinic in Switzerland that allows you to die with dignity.
