Cannabis is far kinder to the body.

One thing I like about alcohol is you can set your clock to it. Everybody is different, one shot of whiskey can do many different things to many people. But for you, you know what a beer does to you or two or three or eight beers.

I can drink a certain amount and know when I'm going to be basically sober again.

Not so with weed. If I smoke and then fall asleep, I'll probably be basically sober when I wake up. If I smoke early in the day, I'm high all day. I might not be super high, I might not have that feeling so much, but until I go to sleep my feeling is going to be weird.

That's one difference for me. Nowadays I prefer to just toke a little bit before bed after a night of drinking. I don't really like only smoking pot anymore. It makes me think too much and it catches me by surprise what my thoughts are.

Maybe one of these days I'll smoke some weed with the sole purpose of dealing with the thoughts I know that are coming. To do this I'll need to be alone and away from an easy escape like cable or internet. Maybe I go for a hike in a safe place like Blue Hills in Milton where I can't get lost enough to die.

I'm 3/4 of the way through a bottle of wine this evening. I have given up beer because of the carbonation and calories.

Which is not to say that I don't love beer. I do. And living in Seattle there are so many good beers to choose from, so it's not like I've sworn off beer forever.

But Seattle also has lots of good wines, and given that wine neither bloats me nor spikes my blood sugar, it beats out beer on those nights I'm drinking alone.

Most beer has unlisted sulfites, so I prefer rum. I might prefer pot, but I have a history of headaches with that.

Given a choice, and I HAD to do one or the other? Yeah, I'll try the weed, I guess, though I'd rather eat it than smoke it. Sucking carbon into your lungs, no matter what the plant, can't be good for you.

But there's no way weed could taste anywhere near as bad as beer does to me.

However, if I could just opt out of both, I would, and I do, because I don't need either.

When did you start drinking this bottle of wine? A bottle of wine equals four drinks. So you've had three. If you opened the bottle three hours ago you should be basically sober right now.

Eating it is a completely different thing than smoking it. When you eat it you get the drug via your liver instead of your lungs. Your body processes it differently.

I agree that eating it is probably safer overall, but it's also much more hallucinogenic..

Some people like to have a beer after work, some would rather have a bong hit or three. I prefer weed myself.

Could be that I've only smoked shiatty weed, but given the choice between inhaling hot, irritating smoke and drinking something I enjoy the taste of (genuinely flavorful things, not watery mass-market brews or the overhopped crap that seems to make up 75% of the craft market), I'll most likely take the beer.

Oh ok, then cheers! I opened a half pint of Turkey 101 at two hours ago, nearly finished it now and I'm working on my third IPA.

That's probably how I would swing through a bottle of wine. I have a bottle I considered opening tonight, but I went with the bourbon instead. Maybe next weekend.

I'm down here in Dallas this evening and I'm struggling to find good beers here.

I first indulged in Shiner Bock which is so highly regarded by Texans (it seems), but I don't think I can rank it anywhere near my usual swill.

BTW, if you're in the PNW, Aslan brewing out of Bellingham makes a delicious Pacific Ale. It's labeled organic, so it's marked up a bit, but it's really good.

That is probably it, shiatty weed.  The stuff they sell for rec and med is crispy as fark, very spicy herb taste that varies wildly from strain to strain.
Also, edibles.  The gummies are my parent's favorite, they do wonders for his arthritic hands.

Both are bad .  Beer and cannabis are both very bad for men , especially hop laden IPA beers.   Better to drink smaller amounts of hard liquor like bourbon or vodka if you feel you must get roasted.

Agreed.  It keeps me from getting stupid on work nights as well, I take two hits after like 4 beers and I am set for the night and sleep like a brick.

Not me. If I have to be up early, I purposely avoid weed. It'll have me bouncing off the walls until 4:00 am otherwise.

I've heard it suggested that that's indicative of a Sativa leaning strain, which I prefer.

Some of this spike is simply the 'because we can' attitude that usually happens whenever anything previously illegal is made legal. It will take a couple of years to settle out.

I know for a long back as I can recall, Pot was illegal. Then not only was it illegal but the punishment for caught users became wildly out of proportion to the crime. I knew hard core drunks that just got repeated slaps on the hands when they got caught driving, but also knew pot smokers who went to jail, paid huge fines or lost their cars.

Not only that, but it became risky to buy your pot from a dealer unless you knew the guy.

The Department of Justice under the Obama Administration relaxed federal enforcement of marijuana laws in states where it is legal, but the Trump Administration may reverse that trend.

There's that also, especially as the powerful beer lobby puts pressure on the President and Congress to curtail the use of pot, which cuts into their profits a bit. I mean, you can't go a day without a booze commercial on TV and the commercials, like the old Tobacco versions, are subtly targeting kids. (Alcohol soda, Lemon aid, Cider and don't forget the low alcohol sweet, tasty wine coolers.)

So, they have some major bucks to loose. Plus the small artistional (?) brewery's are putting a dent in the profits of Big Time Beer.

It might be restricted back to medicinal use only, with you getting your dope from pharmacies. The latter because the ink had not dried on the legalization documents yet when Pot Shops opened by the handful. (Now, their profit is dropping because the price of weed has dropped since so many people are now legally growing it, they don't have to deal with crime lords and dealers and they've kind of flooded the market.)

Also, we haven't had the time to start fully researching any adverse effects pot has or even if it causes cancer. I am familiar with the 'pot cough', like smokers cough. Plus the smoke is made up of particulate matter like any smoke and so far, we do know that any smoke taken in high enough concentrations damages the lungs and can cause cancer.

They might start taking the medicinal substances out of pot and converting it into pills while making smoking the weed itself illegal again.

I don't do pot, mainly because I never liked the effects unless I was mildly drunk, plus I could predict how whatever booze I was swilling was going to make me feel, but not pot. I once knew a girl who had all of her pot sorted into samples, from different sources, depending on how each made her feel. Plus I'm more susceptible to outside influences than when I'm just drunk.

However, I don't care if others smoke it. I will not go up to them and yell at them for 'polluting my air' like happened to me with a chick when I was smoking a cigarette, quietly, far off to the side of the public library. (My response was unpleasant.)

Personally, at the end of the night, I would rather be around stoners than the majority of drunks, because it never fails that in a group of drunks, someone just has to show his ass and start some shiat. Pot smokers don't.

If I ONLY smoke weed, even Indica, I do find that I have a hard time sleeping. I'll lay in bed just tripping out and thinking about things and maybe laughing to myself. But if I add THC to alcohol I trip out for a few minutes, but then I fall into a good sleep.

The only time I'd drink beer would be if I had a kidney/bladder infection and had no access to a Dr. or antibiotics., Never cared for the taste of beer much, I like wine if I drink. But I'd rather smoke any day of the week because I have a number of health/medical issues that it addresses in one fell swoop. Numerous issues, one medication{Self administered, yes}, issues all resolved.
