Huh. I thought mutants were out and it was all Inhumans now, to screw Fox for not cooperating with the MCU.

Or have they struck some deal that they haven't announced yet?

At least Jean Grey will get to die a few more times, I guess.

Too bad bankruptcy is no longer possible, because that's what it took to make them good again last time.

This doesn't have to do with the comics but how are they going to do more X-Men movies? Because they obviously are but, (spoilers).

Are they gonna bring back that Spider-Man that had guns and katanas?

I quit collecting 93 or so right before it got so stupid with the X titles and infinite cross overs.

If I get nostalgic, I'll get graphic novels.  Are they even called that anymore?

Usually called trade paperbacks now... which is an equally silly and strictly speaking equally incorrect term, but at least not as pretentious.

I had always thought that TPB's were the compilation mags (where they print out an entire arc in one volume) and graphic novels where like longer one-shots.

Exactly.

TPBs reprint issues 1-6 of The Amazingly Bad Dan Slott Written Spider-Man.

A graphic novel is a single story that's, oh, 96 pages or longer, usually printed for the first time in that format and has never been split into single issues.

The problem came when self loathing nerds started calling TPBs of Rob Liefeld and Chuck Austen's Extreme Deathbloodpouch "graphic novels" because they were too ashamed to admit they read comic books.

It's pretty fuzzy because they're both misapplied terms from general publishing (a TPB is any paperback printing with larger dimensions than the standard paperback, it has nothing to to with content, and a novel is defined by prose word count, which obviously doesn't really apply to comics) but generally speaking "graphic novel" has been used to describe both compilations of long-arc serialized stories and things written intentionally for the format.

First Class and Days of Future Past are okay. Deadpool is great, but hard to call it an X-Men film, even w/ the great joke at the mansion. The Wolverine is garbage. Everything else is flaming garbage.

For better or worse, if you put Wolverine (or Gambit) on the cover, it sells.  Healing factor and cigar-smoking and murky origins and claws, kinetic energy and cigarette-smoking and murky origins and a staff.  Who would have thought superhero abilities were so basic.  They sell because they're wish-fulfillment.

Yeah, I really don't consider "Deadpool" an X-Men movie despite the guest appearances.  Great movie, though, and the short before "Logan" was hilarious.

I'm old, I started collecting in 1981, got out of it in 94-95 era, sold my collection for a few thousand and every now and again I'll buy Trade Paperbacks (as they're called now) of certain story arcs or just read the wiki about the story arc.

Comics were great, they probably still are (I'm not that much of a douchebag), and served their purpose in my childhood, but after the companies started outright shilling stupid stories for cash (Break of the Bat, Superman Dies, etc), I couldn't take it anymore.

I had all the X-Men from Giant Sized Annual (when they brought the comic back) through 210 or so, then collected a lot of Image (W.I.L.D.Cats being my favorite), I loved Marvel's New Universe (Psi-Force was the bomb!), the First Secret Wars, JLE was always a fun read when high as shiat... there were a lot of great stories that didn't require purchasing 7 different titles to complete the story arc. They always kind of did that to get sales for titles that didn't sell as well, but they went WAY overboard in the 90's, and my interests and hobbies had changed, and it was a pain in the ass having all those long boxes to move, they were like an anchor slowing me down.

I'm not saying the stories were better when I was collecting, I just like the comics a bit more simple than the crazy story arcs they went into in the 90's. Well, that and Liefeld's artwork drove me insane, as was mentioned earlier.

People kept trying to push that narrative but the X-men books never went anywhere... and they have always had WAY more X-books than Inhuman books.

Hell Marvel played on peoples thoughts on that like titling things like Death of X.

The market is already flooded with X-Men comics, but the problem is nobody has been reading them and Marvel has been trying to hide them.

This is an attempt at Marvel returning the X-Men to actual prominence in their universe.  Not sure if it will work.  I ordered cautiously for my shop.

I'm just happy that they're resetting the line.  Post Battleworld, the X-Men have been adrift and frankly not very fun (although that's probably true of the entire Marvel universe right now).  I'm probably most excited for the new Generation X, but I'll give them all a chance.
