I always loved his work, but I honestly thought he was considerably older.

The illustrations he did for Frankenstein are among the very best ever produced in that form, by anyone.

I'm not much into the horror genre, but I have seen Mr. Wrightson's drawings from time to time.  His artwork is always captivating and frequently....stunning.

Rest in peace, sir.  You were an exceptional artist.

Damn. He was a huge influence on me as an illustrator. I never quite got to his level though. Few have. Thank you for all the amazing artwork, Bernie. You were one of the best.

Damn, sad to hear this. I got to hang out with him a few times and discovered after one especially long and boozy evening, not only was he a great artist but a pretty good piano player too. Rest in a better place, Bernie.

Dammit. This sucks.

He was one of the greats. He'll be missed.

You know, I bet that Bernie Wrightson-illustrated version of Stephen King's Silver Bullet  will see a sudden jump in value. That was a cool thing to see at my local department store near the checkout aisle many long years ago.

Damn. One of the greats.

When the movie came out, it scared my kids.  And even to this day, I recite that line on Father's Day.

maybe a week ago on twitter i'd heard he took a turn for the worse. he officially had to retire. didnt realize he was that close though. i still have a lot of his work, including a version of Cycle of the Werewolf where he included chapter sketches. he was hugely influential in my appreciation of comic book artists.

Well, Wrightson was no Liefield, that's for sure!

Liefield falls short by at least a couple of feet.
