I don't know, never been a great fan, but I went to their concert in January, and damned if you don't stand there and go "oh yeah, I like that song, that one too, and oh yeah, that one...."

/it was a good show
//although Anthony was showing his age and had an injury
///he sat on a stool for about half of it.

'One Hot Minute' is always on my phone, and is a favorite go-to album of mine.

Blood Sugar Sex Magick was a great album. I get RHCP fatigue after a while and listen to... anything else, but every few years I pull out BSSM and it's fresh again.

some one?

This is why the music tab died.

Music snobs are insufferable and no one cares about your favorite deaththrashcoresheboygan metal group that only performs on odd Tuesday's when the moon is full to tens of people.

I couldn't tolerate Anthony's voice anyway, so there never was any love for their albums. The music would be OK and then he'd open his mouth to "sing," at which point I'd nope off the radio station. Never purchased anything of theirs.

/can't stand Billy Corgan either

RHCP always struck me as a band that really must be seen live to be appreciated.  Albums don't really seem to capture them, and you're sitting there going "Oh, goodie, another song about California."

But live, they absolutely tear the roof off the motherfarker.

2017-03-19 11:34:47 AM
RHCP were a one hit wonder fad band just like 99.9% of the rest of the bands out there.

Blood Cocaine Sex Magic.

I could listen to that album all night while blowing lines.

They're a singles band, IMHO. I bought 2 or 3 of their earlier albums and stopped as it was mostly filler garbage. Stadium Arcadium should have been a single album. It might have actually have been listenable.

/Still love Soul to Squeeze

Still one of my favorite songs and videos.

I thought most people hated them.  I remember when I was young and they were considered a punk band. They are goddamned awful and they always have been. A bunch of frat boys with an annoying guy slapping his bass, basically.  farking awful music.

How can you not lub the Peppers.

2017-03-19 12:05:56 PM
I saw them in a night club in 1985. Flea did a standing back flip while spanking the bass. And the music was great, the first 2 albums played at lightning speed. Made the opening acts look like dullards.

2017-03-19 12:21:46 PM
I saw them back in..1992 at Lollapalooza and they tore it up.

2017-03-19 12:27:15 PM
Count me in for "they are really good live."  I always turn the radio when they come on, though.

Also, that sock thing was so edgy.

I have a friend who loves red hot chili peppers, but can't stand mild green bell peppers.

Um, if you don't like, don't listen to them

Flea is one of the best non-black slap bassists of all time. That man could deliver the funk.

The band started sucking when they told him to stop bringing so much funk, which was something you should never ever do (pre-BSM).

/yeah, I'm one of THOSE snobs

Now, did they tell him to stop bringing the funk, or did he fall into the Metallica trap of trying to learn how to play correctly, which lessened his funk bringing abilities?

Can't do it. Hate that album with a passion. Had a roommate in college who played it constantly and ruined it for me.

//overplayed is my number one reason for hating on a song/album/band

No, they literally told him to tone it down. Too lazy to google, but there are articles and interviews about it.

Artist critique other artist.  It doesn't matter because non-artist vote with dollars.  Broke artist are ignored.

Or you could just listen to a tape.

Yeah I said tape, what of it?  Both of my trucks have CD/ tape player factory radios.  I have a Weird Al CD, and a Tom Petty tape ready to go at all times, depending on what I'm in the mood for.  They both are therapeutic when dealing with stupid drivers.

Kind of hit the top for me with Mother's Milk and died after. Can't stand any other album of theirs now.
One of the most uncomfortable things I've ever seen was when they did Under The Bridge on SNL. Ow. Ow.

Why is it suddenly a "thing" to hate RHCP? Just wondering... Is it "cool" now for some reason? I've always liked them, if you don't that's cool too, but the whole "I'm cool cause I hate something" thing has always confused me. Is it just the sheep effect in full force?

Their VHS tape was awesome

They're a light rock band that was miscategorized as alternative rock, just like Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, etc.

Acccurate.

Is there a club we can join? or maybe just a gofundme for a group assassination project we could throw money at?  I would be happy to help make flyers for any project trying to remove every trace of the horrible group from the planet and I am saying that as somebody who does not volunteer for anything anymore.

/I thought I was alone in my hate until today

Hillel was awesome. The band died with him. Not unlike how Metallica died with Cliff.

Eh, I love me some flea.

I've actually come to enjoy RHCP more as I've gotten older... I think they tried too hard to be edgy for me to like them back in high school.  But now I enjoy a number of their songs, although I may never just sit down and listen to an album.  Don't do that a lot anymore really.

Also, they are all better mucicians than me, so there's that.

2017-03-19 01:59:02 PM
My biggest beef with them is they never seemed to be able to write a coherent, complete song (caveat being I've only heard what had a lot of airplay). Whether you liked the stylings or not, at some point it would veer off into a completely unrelated song, then go backwards, sideways, up, down and back to the beginning again. Take it on the other side finally rectified all that, an honest to goodness complete piece.

When I am burning in hell the soundtrack will be a never ending loop of RHCP, Sublime and 311, I just know it.

I recently downloaded BSSM from Amazon (Prime) and gave it a listen front to back. It brought back fond memories of nights I can't remember.

But one thing that stood out: that farking snare drum. Every song has the same snare beat to it. Except the softer acoustic one, and the other softer acoustic one.

To appreciate the album though, you have to take yourself back to a time when you hadn't yet heard it. At the time, it was a fresh new sound. I already had Uplift Mofo and Freaky Styley at the time, but still it was a cool departure into a more heavy sound, courtesy Rick Reuben.

Fo me it will be "Once I was 7 Years Old...."

cretinbob: some one?

A lot of people don't like the RHCP.  Once I realized that Anthony Kiedis can't sing for shiat I gave up on them...which means about 15 years ago.
