That guy is way too smart to be teaching high school. If he gets cancer he'll be selling meth in no time.

I'm fascinated by math and physics, but I generally suck at math more advanced than algebra. Assuming I stumbled onto a solution, this pretty much would be my method:

Atop a building at Adobe's World Headquarters in San Jose, Calif., four orange LED circles shifted every 7.2 seconds, broadcasting a looping, encrypted message that remained unsolved for four years

Was that the original audio file, or the one that was broadcast to the world?  The original file had a little echo because the sound stage microphones weren't calibrated correctly by the audio engineer.

/ The same sound guy also screwed up the processing on "That's one small step for a man..." so the broadcast version dropped the word "a"

"Adobe planned on rewarding Waters with a one-year subscription to its Creative Cloud software"

Maybe that's why it went unsolved for 4+ years...

BumpInTheNight: The prize was adobe software?

Well he got 40 x the software and the really valuable thing: a 3d printer!
So those high school kids can start printing their own penis shapes instead of doodling them in their notebooks.

Seriously though good on the teacher to negotiate a better prize.
