The last time I went to Historicon, I saw some folks running a Slammers scenario in 25mm.  Treadway was nice enough to post some pictures on his website:

**Nerd on**  The Slammers didn't use laser weaponry.  The use copper-cobalt plasma bolts. **nerd off**

Want a handheld laser cutter? Buy one from me.

If you don't want to buy it, the build plans are on my website.

It's intended to be installed on a 3D printer: operate handheld at your own risk.

It's intended to only fire downwards: do not tamper with the tilt switch.

I was under the impression from the books that any object light enough to fly was dead within line of sight of a powergun- especially the 20cm main guns on Hammer's tanks. WTF is up with the aircraft miniatures?

To continue the ridiculous pedantry, Hammer's tanks used energy weapons which liberated plasma bolts (somehow) from solid materials in a magnetic field. Not lasers.

All pedantry aside, I've been waiting for this ever since the MTHEL was being tested. Next step ought to be dedicated vehicles designed to mount high-energy lasers for local defense (MTHEL can shoot down missiles and artillery shells in flight- just like Hammer's powerguns) to accompany units in combat and provide firebase security.

Anyone know if it's legal under current treaty to use energy weapons on manned aircraft? IIRC, using lasers on people is verboten, but using them against equipment is hunky-dory.

I was kind of hopping this would turn into a discussion of laser weapons; design considerations, limitations, and applications. I guess I'll show myself out...

We've been using them against missiles for years, see Directional IR Countermeasures

I'm sure if we used it against a manned aircraft we'd be accused of using it against the pilot whether that was the intent - or what actually happened - or not.  IMO we need a ruling on laser weapons above a certain class to redefine blinding as incidental injury.  If the laser weapon the soldier's vehicle was attacked with was fully capable of destroying the vehicle but a glancing hit or evasion caused the only damage to be blinding the operator that's not a war crime, its just a miss.  No different than if he was blinded by shrapnel from a near miss bullet.

Curious about what a 5kW laser can do, I googled, found this:

TWI reveals handheld 5 kW laser torch
"The cutting process is fast, with the laser torch being capable of cutting through a 150-mm (6-in) stainless steel tube with a 1.5 mm (0.06 in) thick wall in less than 30 seconds."

I like the suit. It's like version 1.0 of trooper armor.

Lol damn you - just what I was coming in here to post.  Lasers aren't NEARLY enough to annoy a line tank much in that series.  Hell, even the plasma guns have to either be stupidly large and heavy or try to spray and pray their way through the same spot for ages to be making serious dents in that armor.

/and maintaining fire (thus making yourself realllllllllllly obvious) was not such a good idea

8W for $300. Doesn't sound like much, but it cuts pretty fast and engraves anything. I don't have the FDA paperwork fully ready yet, only some of it has been approved, so you will have to sign a waiver, and you can't use it in a shop (personal use only). 100% made in the USA. If you don't wanna buy it from me, see my site for a howto video and a parts list so you can DIY :)

In the dystopian future, you've got a seat at my table.  You can have a pretty much unlimited budget while my people starve.

For a long time I was convinced that Hammer's Slammers was a figment of my imagination, since I lost the book at some point in my childhood.

Then the internet came along.
