Well, they're consistently the greatest of the last 25 years anyway. Also, I thought Monster broke up REM's string of "great" albums.

At least they followed it up in grand style. New Adventures in Hi-Fi is my personal favorite.

The post-Berry stuff isn't as bad as people think it is, though listening to those albums in their entirety gets to be a slog.  I pulled together a Spotify playlist of the best songs from those records, and it holds up with their best stuff.  Though it's obvious that Berry was the one with the pop sensibility in that group.

They've been making records for nearly 20 years. They are also great live, so If you ever get a chance to see them, it's well worth the $25 or so. They're just a rock band that loves making and playing rock music. It's one of the more puzzling things to a lot of us music junkies that they never had a hit or got wide popularity. They act like they don't about all that though so it's all good I guess

HST's Dead Carcass: Um, the Rolling Stones are the greatest Rock N Roll band of all time.

The Rolling Stones weren't even the greatest band in their own town.

The fact I've never heard of Spoon is not surprising as my music knowledge is woefully silted. So I started the embedded song to listen as I read work email. Couple minutes later I noticed I was finger-tapping to the beat.

Let's see what else they've got.

REM was one of those bands we all pretended to like in college because we were all supposed to like them in college.

In reality, they're okay. Just okay.

Five, eh? So you're not counting "Taking Liberties" (aka "Ten Bloody Marys" in the UK), a b-sides compilation released around the time of Get Happy? It is effectively an entirely new album and as solid as any of the others on your list, with stuff like "I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea" (left off the US version of This Year's Model), "Gettin Mighty Crowded," "Wednesday Week," "Tiny Steps," etc. etc.

Gimme Fiction is one of my favorite albums of all time.  I got to see them live on that tour and they were great.  I have to say I have not listened to them in years but I think I should start up again.

After a bit of youtubing, they are a perfectly cromulent group.

I would say Boards of Canada would be a 5-great-album band, but they've only released 4 full-length LPs in 18 years of being on a real label. All excellent, but get fark's sakes, guys, MOAR!

Fugazi gets the "All 8 albums are brilliant" award (if you count 13 Songs and Instrument Sdtk as albums, which I do). Dammit Fugazi, MOAR!

We liked them in college because we have different music tastes in college.  Much like when we're kids.

College rock is pretty good music.  You just outgrow it.  No different than outgrowing boy bands or other stuff you like when you're 13.  You don't carry much of it forward, beyond the nostalgia.

DNRTA but i now i did, and see they mentioned them with 8, and even call into question In Through the Outdoor, which i was hoping to keep under the carpet.  its decent though.

Spoon is great; I like them.

But the fact is, author makes no mention of the Rolling Stones.
Also, while Bowie is mentioned, author dings Diamond Dogs and yet, calls Let's Dance a great album.  I'll posit that, the run from Ziggy to Scary Monsters is the greatest ever.  Just my opinion, man.

2017-03-17 04:15:35 PM
Spoon is really, really good, even though their typical genre is not necessarily my thing.  I'm excited to listen to the new one.

I honestly would never have heard of them if it weren't for them being a standout track on one of the "MLB The Show" Playstation games.
