Great, I love this show.

Yay!  And SyFy returning to sci-fi makes it even better.

Sweet. One of the best shows on TV right now.

On another note: I just watched Star Trek Beyond for the first time last night. I was disappointed Aghdashloo only had one scene.

Hooray!

Great show.  Don't fark it up!

I like the series, but the more I see Aghdashloo, the more irritated I get.

I don't know if it's her character, or her five-pack-a-day grating voice, but I think the series would be so much better without her and the political side of things kicking in every five minutes.

I think that is exactly what makes it great. It shows consequences and implications instead of the usual consequence free violence that is prevalent on many shows.

I frikkin' love the show and the books. Sent all 6 to my dad for his 80th... He plowed through them in 5 weeks or so.

Everybody is going to converge eventually. You'll see.

Personally though, I love her. Her voice is so damn deep it's hard to understand her if she's speaking very softly, but god DAMN she can chew up some scenery when she needs to. The scene with her talking about Jules Mao's family, with Errinwright? Holy shiat, I popped a boner.

I liked the fun space station stuff of the first season. The bullshiat way too serious self indulgent whisper talking of bad actors has gotten out of hand in the second season.

I can't believe all this protomolecule bullshiat didn't get them cancelled.

Sounds like I should be watching that.

I like the show even though they've been cramming a book and a half into this season. If they can focus on just the third book for the third season, it could be great, even though the third book has been a little slow about 2/3rds into it.

Strong woman characters, some great writing, incredible attention to detail in a space based TV series.

better than game of thrones IMHO, but of course i prefer the Sci-fi genre more, so I am bias

YES.   The show is amazing!    It's VERY well written & they're not getting cancelled, it's just the show is expected to reach its conclusion for season 4, so it's getting it's full story-arc in and no BS padded episodes or stretching it out for an unnecessary 5th season.   Every episode is riddled with details that you won't realize are important, but when you re-watch them, you see how everything was connected from the very beginning... down to the smallest detail.

I like the show but I cannot agree with that. The books are fabulous.

In the meantime I'm a bit bummed with what they have done with Prax and the changes in that storyline. I suppose I'll live.

Did you mean a book per season and a half?

They only really made it to the second book in the last episode and a couple of minutes at the tail end of the previous one.

Although, to be fair, they have rearranged things quite a bit. Bobby didn't appear in the books until she was on Ganymede fighting the protomolecule beast. Avasarala still hasn't appeared going by the book's version of events.

I can't stand her either.   I would pay someone to pull that frog out of her throat.  I get it that she used to be a very famous actress, and I don't dislike her as a person, but I can barely understand her -- and that makes it very difficult for me to follow not only what she's saying, but the emotion and meaning of the scene.  I've finally gotten used to the belter pidgen English, but that also made it a bit difficult for me.

I reeeeally want to like this show, and it's growing on me -- I've watched Season 1 twice and several episodes from season 2 twice... and it's coming together OK...  But, I mostly find it tedious and in desperate need of subtitles in some areas.    Is it weird that I'm more interested in the protomolecule than any of the actors?

They've started on the book that has the reveal of what the protomolecule's purpose is.

If they stick to a book being made into a season and a half of the show, you'll know by the end of season three.

It's hard for me to recommend because I have to be in a particular mood to watch. I enjoy it because it can be over-the-top absurd at times and the character Jennifer Goines is a lot of fun. But that's about it for me.

The end of season 2 was good enough to pique my interest for season 3, so I'm hoping the writers can keep the momentum going now that they know how many episodes are left. Another plus is I recently read that Christopher Lloyd will guest star for S3.

But I certainly wouldn't recommend it based on the movie.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think her casting is perfect. She's as awesome in all her foul-mouthed glory as I could have hoped for.

I binged it on an ice day, I was actually really curious what would happen next good story so/so acting and pace, and the visuals were great.  What didn't you like about it out of curiosity?   I had plenty of shows that I thought were terrible and somebody else absolutely loved it.

I wanted at least another season of Ascension -- Just to see where they were going with the telekinetic girl who knew where the aliens and "death" was in the sky.   I thought it was a good statement on race and gender roles that were frozen in time aboard the reality-tv rocket ship version of The Truman Show.  I assume that somehow the facade would have been peeled back to expose their situation, and then somehow 'lil miss firestarter would launch the ship for real...  but... who knows.

I do enjoy it once I get started watching, but I'm hesitant to recommend because it sits on my DVR for a long period of time before I start. I watched the first 4-5 episodes of S1 live then let the rest sit for a year. I just got around to S2 last month.

Maybe it's a show that I prefer to binge.

They should have called it "90210 in Space."  It was a soap opera full of pretty people, and not even a good one at that.  Putting a crappy story in a space arc doesn't do it for me.  You could have told the exact same story on good old planet Earf and it wouldn't have changed a lot.

Yeah especially being the end, there was another plantet, was the guy stuck there? I thought she would take the whole ship, especially odd how it was stuck just  time and managing resources.  How crazy people would be if they knew they were just part of a big experiment

I still want to know how they faked the acceleration of launch. So maybe the crew was all asleep for that? That still wouldn't explain how they were going to simulate the flip at the half way point. There were a lot of huge plot holes in that show, but that's the one that stood out.

Completely different. I knew her first from 12 Monkeys and didn't realize that was her until S2 of Schitt's Creek.

Definitely the sign of a good actor: "Really, that was them?"

She's actually picked up a couple awards up on the Great White North:

Severaux: JohnBigBootay: BeesNuts: The very rare case of a show starting out being straight up better than the source material.  Keep it up and I'm all in on that "same day viewing" demographic.

I like the show but I cannot agree with that. The books are fabulous.

In the meantime I'm a bit bummed with what they have done with Prax and the changes in that storyline. I suppose I'll live.

Do you get the impression they're going to parts of Nemesis Games early with Dawes as a substitute for Marcos?

Because that's the impression I'm getting.

I'm ok with the changes to Prax's story line. I'm not sure how well his wandering around the station starving to death would translate to TV. It's setting up to fall back in line with the book as they are taking him back to Ganymede. I was thinking the same thing about Nemesis Games. Dawes replacing Marco and possibly Diogo replacing Filip.

They've already name-dropped Inaros once which suggests to me Dawes won't take that role. And replacing Filip with Diogo would blow a massive hole everyone's motivations. Nemesis Games would need a complete rewrite.

I agree completely with you. I'm just saying I won't be surprised to see it happen the way things are going. Jarred Harris makes for a really good bad guy and they've already made Dawes more radical than he was in the books, espousing some of Marco's views on inners vs belters and stealing the protomolecule scientist.  Additionally Diogo is being featured enough that I don't think he's going away.  The main thing they'll have to redo is the reason for Naomi to end up in a position to be taken by the free navy which seems doable considering the how they've already made her take Dawes' side several times as well as showing concern for Diogo after they captured him.

Great show. Even the secondary characters feel fully formed.

I should buy the books but I'm unaccustomed to paying hardcover prices for paperbacks.

KingRamze: Rent Party:

They should have called it "90210 in Space."  It was a soap opera full of pretty people, and not even a good one at that.  Putting a crappy story in a space arc doesn't do it for me.  You could have told the exact same story on good old planet Earf and it wouldn't have changed a lot.

But...   it did take place on Earf.   The ship never left the ground, and everything related to the mission was staged.    Did you not actually watch the show?

Let me quote myself.  I usually have to do that when people don't actually read the thread.

I watched one episode of Ascention.

And if what you say is true, and I have no doubt that it is, then it is even dumber than I thought.   That is a straight up M. Night Shamalamadingdong plot.  Do they see dead people, too?   Was it the trees the whole time?

Twist endings don't belong to Shamwow. Fern Gully and Dances with Wolves is a good story, but Avatar was lazy and cliche. If a twist ending is told well, it makes a good story. Insert "only 3/5/9 storys in the world, just told differently" here.

I don't know where they are going. I never get that shiat right. I just feel like that's when you got to know Practice - when he was stumbling around in constant self-reflection while analyzing the situation scientifically. You totally miss that. I don't want Dawes to get me with another character either. That said, I've enjoyed the show thus far so I didn't complain too much. I probably wish it were one book, one season.
