Ermmm... died doing what he loved?

Sounds like he was at the point that anything could have set off his heart, though.

So level 28 and a pokedex over 200 makes you a dedicated player? I really need to play less.

/Still need a damn Lapras.

FTFA: Anyone who plays "Pokemon Go" knows how much work it takes to get to a high level

Genuinely curious: is there any skill involved, or is it luck + time?

As far as I can tell, luck is only involved with getting the rare Pokemon. Rare Pokemon don't affect your level or XP. Time is what's mostly involved in getting XP.

I'd say the skill involved is in inventory management and gym battling.

Catching the critters is just step one. Building a powerful roster of critters - and the right ones for the right jobs - is the tricky part. That takes a lot more time, knowledge, and planning.

Without getting in to the nitty-grittt, you may have caught a good critter, but they will generally need to be leveled up before they're useful, and your resources to do so are limited. Catching one is just the first step.

And assaulting a gym takes skill. You need to best utilize your roster to put together a squad which can get the job done, and then execute it, which is another matter. It's not just that the critters have relative strengths, they also have a whole bunch of different elemental types for both attack and defense, and managing those is tricky and key since so many have multiple elemental types.

//level 25 on the second account I made so I could play on the same team as my brother in law

Pretty much. Every pokemon you catch gives you a set amount of XP regardless of their rarity. You can tweak that amount via things like curve balls, accuracy, catching it on the first ball you throw (now), and evolving pokemon, but nothing else OTTOMH.

/had a weird dream I came across a Palkia and a Tornadus at the mall last night...

Heh, indeed. Though I do have a Lapras. But purely by luck as it hatched out of a 10km egg for me quite some time ago. I've never seen one in the wild.

Farfetch'd is quite common here in Hong Kong. I would recommend a trip up north to Japan so you can get a Farfetch'd and a Heracross.

A couple weeks ago I saw a Farfetch'd someone had put in a gym here in DC.
That's an outline in my Pokedex that it's going to be a long time before I can fill it out.

I've seen a Kangaskhan (Australian regional) and Heracross (South American regional) that way. I actually like it, because I'd rather have an outline than nothing... but it's going to be a very long time before those shadows are ever filled in, and it will probably require trading to finally be implemented.

Someone put a Corsola in a gym in Forest Lawn. It was the only Pokémon there, I just saw it as I was passing on the bus.

Also noticed that someone had beaten the gym at Rick James' grave but didn't put anything in it.

I'm pretty sure some of the fringe Evangelical derpers still put down D&D...
