I don't think they have read The Prince.  It is not about any particular politician or any particular prince and Machiavelli himself was not a politician.

Yes he was. He was both a diplomat and a politician.

I don't remember him holding any office, outside of as you say diplomat.  My recollection was that he was a bureaucrat and historian.

Also, The Prince was, current scholars believe, based off Cesare Borgia.

Yes, of THAT Borgia family.

If Cesare looks familiar, he's also one of the reputed 'inspirations' of the popular image of Jesus Christ

There wasn't much of a difference between bureaucrats and politicians in a political society where officials aren't elected. Also: the entire concept of a politically-unaffiliated civil service was basically Machiavelli's idea. Prior to him, everyone who was appointed was appointed for political purposes.

Of this group, millennials are the most aggressive readers, with 88 percent of Americans under 30 saying they read a book over the past 12 months.

Oh man, a WHOLE BOOK. Probably didn't even have pictures in it!

Great, let's just pat ourselves on the back for our literary mediocrity.

I will say I appreciate this author using the term "millennial" correctly. Too many culture writers use it as shorthand to mean "those damned youths!"
