Our military needs a healthy dose of "use the right tool for the job".

The takeaway in this, and was touched on lightly in TFA, was the capability and sophistication of the surveillance, guidance, and control systems. If that can be grafted or copied down to a different neutralizing vehicle, you may have something interesting.

felching pen: How much for a couple dozen .50 cal rounds?

$300.

All of those countries that it could be have radar controlled anti-air guns... someone decided to throw a missile before they identified the actual target. I wonder if the drone was big enough to trigger the warhead or if it just plowed through the thing and destructed on its own...

Considering all that's going on, it makes me uneasy that the military is itching to use their toys.

It might have actually just been a training firing, and they decided to give it an actual target instead of an imaginary one. If the drone required a live radio signal, I'm sure the radio boys enjoyed rewiring the transmitter/antenna with a similar level of overkill for the job.

What did the Patriot do? Fly past and swat the drone with it's wallet?

It was the general saying "we love Patriot missiles" that caught my attention.
But yeah, they do need practice to not go stir crazy/get rusty.
