Beginning of the End should have been higher on the list. I'll accept the top three, although I've always liked Cave Dwellers the best.

I'm not going to read the whole list right now, but I have to say that INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN is,
for me, one of my all time favorite eps, and that it rated so low makes the list a bit suspect for me.

But, I'll just repeat to myself it's just a show, and I should really just relax.

I like Joel and all, but a lot of the movies he did that are pre-1970 B&W or Japanese are just completely unwatchable, with or without the commentary.  Mike gets some hilarious movies in last two seasons to deal with.

It seems that for a lot of niche/nerd properties, you have to make a separate account of 'best' from
'my favorite'.  Like, for example:  THUNDERBALL is quite possibly my favorite of all of the Connery Bond
films, but I fully admit that it isn't his best (though it is a bit better than a lot of reviewers claim).

And while I believe that MST3K is at its best when it's riffing on bad SF films, my all time favorite  MST3K
of all time is CATALINA CAPER, which is not only not a bad SF film, it also breaks one of the informal rules
that the show had in its first incarnation by being a bad, unfunny comedy.  They were, at the time, of the
opinion that bad comedies were not good fodder for their work, and CATALINA CAPER aside, I can see
why they'd have that opinion (and it makes me shudder about the bad comedies that were pitched to
them that they couldn't work with).  It actually reminds me of a story I heard that before their final season
Comedy Central was pressuring them to move from doing movies to doing old episodes of half hour
sitcoms because they didn't want to have to tie up 2 hour program blocks (despite the high quality of
their output).

I think both of them are relatively low-ranked because this list does something rare for MST3K ranking lists:  It actually takes the movie itself into account.  Anything by Francis Coleman is unwatchably bad, even with the riffing, and Manos actually doesn't make the Top 20 because the underlying movie is still just an utter slog.  Other than, perhaps, the bottom 10, every episode is worth seeing, or even rewatching, but some are straight-up rougher than others.  Neptune Men in particular really is just THAT bad, and while the riffs are great, they can only do so much.

2017-03-15 11:02:30 AM
Comet TV is showing MST3K on Sunday nights, but they only have the rights to like 10 of them (although
that does include a couple of CC season 1s, including ROBOT HOLOCAUST).

The downside, though, is that they load them down with commercials (making a DVR a requirement) and
make odd bleeps & edits of the dialog.  But, hey:  it's better than nothing.

Largely, in terms of Fark lists, this is a pretty good one.  That's after admitting that the episodes I like tend to be more Joel-centric.  My personal favorite The Killer Shrew is way down the list but I think it has some of the best riffs in regards to the dogs/shrews.

I realize that I like biker flicks more than most people, but you've got to give a higher ranking to Hellcats.  That movie is amusing in the odd array of low-lifes and lunkheads doing pointlessly dumb things that the movie asks us to empathize with including but not limited to a motorcycle race over a hill that we cannot see, guys taking turns strapping themselves beteween three wheeled motorcycles to see who can hang on the longest, fights with chains, drinking, drinking, and more drinking including a guy who ruins the party by OD'ing.

I bought myself a Roku for Christmas. As I was learning about everything on it, I discovered that it has Pluto.TV, which has an all-MST3K-all-the-time channel.

This has changed my life. I haven't seen it since it ran on Comedy Central in the '90s.

No argument here.  Like DjangoStonereaversaid, it's a "best" list, not a "my favorite" list and I really can't argue against the rankings as far as a "best" list.

Having introduced a number of people to MST3K after it went off the air I've found the Mike episodes are much more accessible.  The SOL took on a very different tone with him that I think people "got" more than with Joel.
