I was a kid in the 90s and Power Rangers were pretty popular at my school.  I thought they were dumb and childish then.  I can't imagine it's held up well since.

Didn't like show. Stayed at times just for this.

The reboot is darker and grittier, because of course it is.

If ANY show could actually benefit from "darker and grittier" it's this one. So yeah. I'll allow it.

Growing up I absolutely hated the Power Rangers. The over acting, the spastic filming, the seizure light karate. My god I hated it.

I was a Ninja Turtles freak. Maybe I was too old for PR?

Because Rita Repulsa can't play guitar.

I know the Power Rangers TV show has still going as of a couple of years ago, but I don't know if they're still repackaging Super Sentai shows or if they're doing original Power Rangers productions at this point.

I watched Express Sentai ToQger when it was airing a couple of years ago - it's train based and powered by imagination, and quite fun, and I would be (morbidly) curious to see what would happen if they gave that the Ranger treatment.

Wikipedia suggests Power Rangers skipped over that particular season of Super Sentai, but they are still using the Japanese footage.

I used to watch this on French television in the early 80's:

I'm old school, so I never got into the Power Rangers.  I was more of a Johnny Sokko and His Giant Robot / Voltron kid.  That being said, I never turned an episode off per Amy Jo Johnson.  Wow.   She deserved a much, much bigger career.

My daughter was really into the Dino Thunder version. Thankfully it only lasted a season or two.

Well, having an asian girl fetish in college, I was more partial to the original yellow ranger girl.  Sadly she was killed in a car accident some years later.

/she was also in The Crow 2

One of my kids worked on a couple episodes as a child extra. We got to watch the stunt team practice the fights and flips, saw some pyrotechnics, got fed, got paid, and got released early. Couldn't have asked for a better reason to skip a day of school.

Billie totally wasn't the only reason I spent time with my younger brother whenever he just happened to be watching Power Rangers *shifty eyes*

I went to high school with the original red ranger. Nothing bad to say about the guy, but I do remember much talk of his motorcycles and martial arts.

I find it an odd anecdote that the Turkish guy who owns the studio of MMPR is a budro of consigliere Kushner.

Ninja Turtles came out when I was in Jr. HS back in the early 80's.  Didn't understand the appeal back then, don't understand it today...

/ Star Wars, on the other hand...
// All of this stuff is generational, for the most part.

I was 7 or 8 when MMPR came out, so I was pretty much right in the target audience, and I both loved and hated it. Loved it because of the giant robot suit-actor fights, and hated it because of the schmaltzy crap that took time away from said fights.

And then I found Zyuranger on the internet in my 20's, and was super pissed because I could have been watching that instead; MMPR is dumbed way, way down in comparison. (For example, the green ranger dies. Like, for good. Also, he's the red ranger's brother.) The Japanese acting is still extremely cornball, but still a solid few tiers higher when things get serious.

Gokaiger is by far my favorite of the Super Sentai series; I don't know what the Power Rangers adaptation of it was like, and I have no intention of finding out because there's no way they improved on it.

/Bryan Cranston also had a few bit parts as monster voices

I was never much for PR, but ChromaSquad is a great game. If XCOM were a Sentai show, it'd be like this.

My nephew got the Power Rangers action toy the year it came out. All 5 combined together, etc.

I got my original Voltron out.

I have to go with Magiranger.  At first I was put off by the capes, but it's got a great concept, great characters, great bad guys, and the best mech in Sentai history.  (MagiKingu Numbaa One!)

Jason Geiger?  Nah, he's back in acting after a stint in the military.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_St._John

Not saying that GI Joe or He Man or Transformers were exactly high literature, and they did kind of repeat similar stories all the time, but GODDAMN the later generation of kids growing up in the 90's got totally screwed with the farking Power Rangers.  That show was ass-terrible.
