Seth Rogen's "Preacher" is as bad as Donald Trump, and he should never be allowed to work behind the camera ever again.

Is it about a stoner man-child thrown into a serious situation and he refuses to grow up until the love interest gives him a final warning and he grows up while showing the love interest that it's okay to be immature every so often?

See, I knew something was off about a Trump presidency. Now I have Seth Rogan to confirm it.

Dissent should be normalized as long as you agree with me. Otherwise it should be mocked and crushed.

Remember when dissent wasn't cool?  Good times.

Close. An entity crosses the galaxy and finds its way to Earth, where it inhabits a preacher in Africa who explodes soon after. The same phenomenon is observed at a Satanic Temple in Russia and in a gathering of Scientologists. Meanwhile, in Texas, Jesse Custer, a preacher with a sordid past, begins to lose his faith in his church and debates leaving. Tulip O'Hare, a mysterious woman from Jesse's violent past propositions him with a job, but Jesse turns her down. Cassidy, an Irish vampire, lands in Texas after a violent episode on a private jet. Jesse has a run-in with the abusive husband of one of his churchgoers and quickly subdues him and his friends, meeting Cassidy in the process. Jesse heads to the church to ask for a sign to continue. The entity appears in the church and inhabits Jesse. Three days later, Jesse awakens and decides not to leave the church, saying he is not quite done yet.

It's also important to note that this is more or less just Episode 1.

That show is batshiat insane, and we love it.  Mrs. Herbie555 asks me almost weekly when Season2 drops.

Preacher was highly recommended to me by a lifelong comic book and sci fi geek friend. He has recommended many shows that the wife and I have highly enjoyed. This was not one of them. I barely made it through the first episode and had no desire to see any more.

I'm surprised at the hate from supposed comic-book fans.  The show definitely had a high level of WTF-ery, but the characters were actually interesting and it made me laugh hard at least once per episode.

/Also Jackie Earl Haley was his usual crazy self.

2017-03-14 11:59:07 AM
It wasn't bad, but I just didn't find myself interested to keep watching.

I made it, I think, four episodes in, and just didn't keep watching.

It happens to be sometimes, where it's not that a show is bad, but I just.... lose interest.  I've still got the two most recent episodes of Lucifer sitting on my DVR- I had been rather enjoying the show, but when I started the first of the two episodes I'm sitting on, I got, like, a minute in, and didn't want to keep watching so I turned it off.

Preacher was the same - I started episode 5, but turned it off in less than a minute because I wasn't in the mood to watch it at that moment, and somehow never went back.

Maybe I'll give it another go before season 2...

No, fark off.

I'd like to say it's just about being old, but the guy appears in these utterly terrible, unfunny comedies. I hate that whole farking Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen comedy thing. It is, at best, mildly amusing. No, stop pretending you like Bridesmaids. And Knocked Up is particularly irritating. There's no way that an unemployed stoner that looked like Rogen would have a chance with weathergirl Heigl. No... farking... chance.

The only movie I like that he's in is Paul.

I watched both  Under Siegemovies this weekend.  Basically Plex showed a preview for one and I'd never seen either.  Was surprised Heigl was in the second one.  Was  a biatch in that as well.  Funny how she is now doing kitty litter commercials.

If you've never read the comics this show is okay to fairly good.
If you've read the comics, this show is complete shiat.

2017-03-14 02:24:04 PM
they wasted an entire season to get the plot to a point covered by the comic in less than 30 pages.
while there were some good moments...mostly being Cassidy...the majority of the show was a moronic collection of pathetic attempts at a "Texas" accent, and 13 year old level toilet humor and lip service to cliches, top off with cherries of ridiculous bullshiat...like "Tulip" making a "bazooka" out of coffee cans, tin soldiers and moon shine.

there are many talented actors working on the show...shame its so poorly written/paced.

I maintain that Seth Rogen is an over rated hack.

I met Dominic Cooper while day drinking on bourbon street last Monday. They were filming season 2 of preacher. Dominic was the coolest guy when I approached him. Took some pictures with him and MRS gLove. Luckily, Seth Rogan was nowhere around.

Sausage Party was a juvenile, stupid movie that spent more time trying to be offensive than it did trying to tell a coherent story.

That said, it did make me laugh a few times despite myself... But still, there were moments where I was glad I was watching alone, because I'd have been completely embarrassed by the juvenile level of humor presented. It was a combination of everything a 12-year-old would naturally think is funny and edgy, and everything a 26-year-old pothead would think is funny and insightful.

The stupidity of the Trump movement is a problem because at its core, it tells you to believe that 2 + 2 = 5.  Science, math, world history, economics, civics.... none of it matters.  It's all about what you feel and believe, facts be damned.

Nothing about man-child stoner movies affects that in the least.  Nothing Rogan does encourages people to reject the basic reality of facts.  Don't try to tie them together.

Bullshiat.  Yes, what we've seen is more of a prequel to the material, and they go in a few different directions.  But overall, it does an amazing job of representing what Preacher was.  Much of the how as been better that entire swaths of the comic.

To act like this was some sort of betrayal of the source material is moronic.

To be fair, the source material also went to total shiat when Ennis (who admitted this) stopped caring about putting together a good story and just tried to write outlandish/perverse ones.

More to the point, it's Hipster to say said show sucked just because someone you don't like as an actor executive-produced it as a passion project.  (Where the alternative is that said show never gets made.)

That would have been preferable. Better nothing than a pile of diarrheatic shiat.

Anyway, if anyone really wants to tell everyone how much viewership = quality, I believe there's a Big Bang Theory thread still active.

This. He's just a guy who makes movies he likes, and has fun doing it.  I think that's where all the Rogen (and, to a greater extent, Sandler) hate comes from.  People hate people who enjoy their jobs.
