I bought a GE Cafe slide in range for a really low price at JCP.... $600 lower than anywhere else. Then I purchased the matching vent hood for free using resulting points from their rewards program. Everything financed at 24 months at 0%...wonder why they're beating Sears.

Reminds me of the time of the telegraph, when the Pony Express went after Horses 'R' Us.

I had not been in our local JC Penney's for a bit but I went the other day looking for a present and it is really a nice store now.  It had a Sephora shop and the rest of the store reminded me more of a higher end store than I ever considered them to be in the past.  Our Sear's is in the middle of their closing purge - I was not even interested it their stuff enough to go look around since that store has been a factory of sadness for a few years now.

Penney's may have turned the corner - they have done a very good job at making our store attractive and I will definitely start shopping there again.

It was nice in the olden times to have a trustworthy place to go for repairs and services.

If you can find a trustworthy place to buy a major appliance, get it installed, have the old one hauled off, and have someone to call to fix any problems going forward, they'll get some business.

I was just in one in florida (visiting family) and having just worked in a sears store (auto) that just closed, i will say that JCP is a much nicer place to shop. Bright and well stocked especially in the men's clothing section which Sears seems to have forgotten about except in their bigger volume stores. my only issue was the checkout section which seemed a bit hidden.

I used to buy all my Dockers and cheap dress shirts at JCP when I was a cubicle monkey.

Good point on the checkout section - I looked at the area that a chaser had been located for years and then started hunting for one until I finally checked out at the jewelry counter.  So they do need to make them more visible so people can comment Kerr the purchase.

I don't think Sears needs anybody else to put nails into their coffin. They're doing a great enough job of putting them in themselves.

I hope Lampert plows every last penny he has into Sears before it fails.

I will also mirror some other comments about Penney's. Good quality and prices. And you are right, their checkout section is hidden away and to the side. Once you know where it is it isn't a problem.

If JCPenney, by some miracle, managed to suck up 100% of Sears' market share, they would still be the department store with the least market share.

JCP just sold their headquarters and is leasing back only 1/2 of the space.

They're more or less competing with the box home improvement stores, using a very thin inventory model. Actually, everyone in town is just fronting for the same distribution warehouse and contractors, but JCP won't even worry about DIY people.

Why does a Sears even exist. They should have walked away into the sunset, instead they are hanging on being sad and pathetic, with nothing worth buying.
