Ant: I was actually thinking about looking at the LG G6.

It will be a fine phone, but I'm curious as to the pricing difference between the G6 and the S8 given that the G6 is using last year's CPU(Snapdragon 821) rather than this year's(Snapdragon 835).  And the V30 will probably debut in Q4 with a more updated CPU.

This; the single most annoying thing about websites that I see on my PC at home.  Websites that don't adjust their GUI for widescreen monitors.

I don't understand. The writer of the article is so excited about how this new screen size is SO MUCH LARGER!!!! than the previous ratio..

Per their own measurements the two phones measured are less than 5% (4.212~% if you care) different. We are talking 4cm2 difference in total screen space. I'm all for more screen space but I don't see 4.2% as some huge jump in space and design technology.

Am I the only one that's annoyed by their "18:9" terminology?  That's a 2:1 aspect ratio, tech nerds.

annoyed pedantically. But it accurately, and semantically, conveys the change with relation to the last "standard". Its easier to comprehend the relational difference between "16:9 to 18:9" than "16:9 to 2:1"

16:9 aspect ratio is great for full-screen video but otherwise is full of suck.

You can take my 5:4 monitor when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

common sense is an oxymoron: You can take my 5:4 monitor when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

What is your screen resolution?  Because one thing I hate is I just don't have enough- this will sound very pedestrian- pixels to display what I need with my various dashboards and the like.  And they're all already down to the smallest readable fonts.  And I can read *tiny* fonts.

I like a lot of information to look at live, at all times.

The mobile site is weird (menus/options and stuff are moved around or missing). It's a lot of small things that break my muscle memory of fark (ex, instead of tabs, there's a pull-down ... site icons and tabs display below the headline (instead of on the same line), the alternating 'blue/purple' background on rows is missing. And the comment section is totally confusing vs regular fark.

// I don't even use the mobile site on my mobile devices ... speaking of which, I wish there was a setting (either on fark or in chrome) to totally disable redirecting to the mobile versions of sites.

You'd be surprised at how many folks use their phone to internet as much as they use their computers, it should be considered everywhere.
Especially on Fark.

I recently got a new phone that half the time asks me if I want it to make a site mobile friendly, I love that.

As someone who is trying to help a business build a website on the cheap as a side project, don't get too annoyed. Most templates that look good (and if you want cheap, you're using a template) have a width cutoff for desktop, tablet, and mobile. Otherwise what you get doesn't look professional, or you can't implement features that are difficult to dynamically adjust, like menus. Phones don't have enough pixels to display a desktop site and desktops have too many possibilities to create a website for all of them. That's why you see compromises like Fark's, even though Fark isn't using a third-party template.

It's an old Dell, 1280 x 1024. The main advantage to the narrower screen is less extraneous crap in my peripheral vision.

I just got a 32" 4K monitor.    32" is *just* on the verge of being too big for a totally flat screen,  but having all those pixels is great.  fark is just a window on one side of the screen, whereas I might have another web page open on the other side, or a file manager chugging away doing something...

Yeah, at home I have two screens running at 1920x1080 each. This is an old screenshot, but I do stuff like this.

// I'm waiting for one of these screens to die, so that I can replace my setup with a 3-4 screen dealie.

Well, Wikipedia is telling me that "18:9" is one of the ways people can refer to that aspect ratio, so I guess I'm the dummy.  But I still think it's silly.
