Four blocks from my house! I'm going to read the article.

(Thonk)

Wha happened? Oh, the article must have worked me into a brief coma.

The NY Daily News is the greatest newspaper since that time I was 4 years old and made one out of cardboard.

2004-05-11 04:47:04 PM

Never met a meter whose problem couldn't be fixed.

I try not to use cliches much, but Mr. Ackbar is most definitely called for here....

Uh...that won't exactly work in your favor if you're already ticketed...

I remember when I went through New York City on my way to buy an irregular coat.

Ha ha, uh...ha?

I don't see hilarity in any sense here. Idiocy, yes. Hilarity? No.

2004-05-11 04:57:12 PM
Considering this is New York, am I the only one that read the "Hilarity ensues" bit to have something to do with the junior senator from that state?

True municipal beuracracy/parking nazism
Cities all over the country are raping the public because the city managers are mismanaging funds.

2004-05-11 04:58:25 PM
This should have an asnine tag. Everyone knows, no matter what that you can't park within 15 feet of a hydrant. Imagine if the guy whining about it lived or worked near that hydrant and it was needed? I bet he'd be furious if the FD couldn't put the fire out because someone was parked in front of the hydrant.

Actually, maybe this needs a Dumbass tag...

NYC traffic tickets are one of the biggest money making scams in the country. It is almost physically impossible to drive a few hours in the city with-out making some type of infraction due to the congestion and traps.

Stutz: and Boston is #2 in that department. They took pointers from NYC.

Around the corner from my gym - thank god i dont own a car!

We do it on purpose in Boston, though- Keeps all those pesky New Yorkers from taking our resident spots.
I got a ticket in NYC for parking in a street cleaning zone, despite the fact that all the signs had been torn down. Having Arkansas tags on my truck (grin) at the time, I thought I could at least get away with a "Duh" defense. Turns out I didn't need to, since the geographically challenged parking officer put "AK" as the abreviation for Arkansas. Some poor sap in Alaska's pissed, I'm sure.

Have they shown the Simpsons go to NY episode since 9/11? I remember that I read that it will never been seen again, I know it comes on up here in Canada.

/please use other Tower

One of the few good times to invoke Admiral Akbar, IMHO. Good call, jasonl6010.

Actually, yes, I have seen that episode broadcast at least once since then, although it was relatively recently. (read: fourish months ago.)

I think this whole article is a poorly-concealed ad for the Mini Cooper.

Perfect example of "hilarity ensues" in my mind.

It shows up very rarely. There are also two versions floating around, one of which cuts out most of the WTC references. It pretty well neuters the episode since the WTC stuff was hilarious.

/ewwwww. Gimme a crab juice.

And its perfectly legal too! They should start a web page of pictures of people that that's happened to..Hilarity!...

It's tempting to become a firefighter just so once every few years you can put your axe through some poor farkers car windows and run a hose through. Legally wrecking stuff is fun.

Nice use of Ackbar!

Back to the original article: who cares?

OtisWild, I was just about to wonder what the fine is for, when the firemen are allowed to simply bust thru any car in the way. That's the real Catch-22, park in front of the hydrant, but one of these days you may get your windows smashed in.

I know a guy who had his car impounded in NY for 6 months for some reason. He couldn't go down to get it until he got his dad to loan him some cash. NY should be more of a walking/taxi city anyway.

Thank Fark that I moved from that stinking farthole of a city!

I'm willing to bet that the meter will reek of dog piss when they finally do get around to removing it.

They did remove it. Read the end of the article.

Because the car still presents an obstacle. The few minutes it takes to maneuver the hoses over, around, or through it could mean the difference between controlling the fire quickly and losing whatever is burning...

I have seen that simpsons episode about 3 different times since 9/11. You would think that if they want to ban and/or censor that episode, that they would do that to other tv shows that had the towers in them. I like the part where homers pissing and the police man is there and gives him another ticket. lol
