I ate at a Greek restaraunt recently, and decided to be brave. I ordered something I'd never heard of before. The only way I could discribe the taste was: meat donut.

Meat Donut: more commonly known as the 'anus'.

2004-05-08 12:41:27 AM
from the looks of some krispy kreme employees, I wouldn't be to shocked if there was some "protein" in that donut...

2004-05-08 01:22:21 AM
I didn't think Krispy Kreme's target market was ever health nuts...

2004-05-08 01:56:12 AM
don't worry... there will still be plenty of fat ass cops and severly obese Americans to keep Krispy Kreme from going under... and at the rate americans are getting fat... Krispy Kremes wallets will continue to get fatter as well... they have nothing to worry about!!

Bah, sales will come back up... Atkins will soon die in a fiery explosion, much like other fads of the past.

I know 5 people who've gone on the Atkins diet; all have quit and gained most of their weight back. No better than any other diet, really. And it can be worse than a regular diet if you take the dietary suggestions to the extreme.

Good Atkins: Chicken or fish, salad with no dressing, blackberries.
Bad Atkins: Deep-fried sticks of butter, deep-fried cream-filled tube steaks, salad with 16 oz of (carb free!) Italian dressing...

I've never read the book, but does the good doctor make any distinction between "good Atkins" and "bad Atkins"?

Furthermore, what pisses me off are the low-carb candies. I'm on a diet and when I'm looking for something sweet, I'm sometimes tempted by these "3 g of carbohydrates" candy bars... I look at them and realize that in addition to the 3 g of carbohydrates, there are 30 g of sorbitol and 20 g of fat, making it calorically just as bad (if not worse) than a regular candy bar. Furthermore, I think sorbitol makes you poop... Why can't they make candy with, say, Splenda and other 0 calorie sweeteners?

i agree that atkins is just another fad died, and has very little long-term potential.

first, it's not practical to expect people to give up grains - the very staple of the human diet - over the long term.

second, eating mostly protein is super expensive.

third, eating mostly protein has uncertain long-term health consequences.

Finally, the atkins diet is super bad for the environment, because raising cattle or other tasty meats is alot less efficient than growing grain, and wastes alot of natural resources.

If you seriously want to lose weight, cut down of the calories get your fat ass to the gym.

Lost 125 pounds in 2 years. Exercise daily.

2004-05-08 08:14:09 AM
At 250 calories per donut, they're absolutely perfect.

2004-05-08 08:14:27 AM
I lost 180 pounds on the Atkins diet and I've only gained like 20 of it back in the last few years (mostly because of lifestyle).. Taking it to an extreme is faddish, but there is something to be said about how much refined sugar and starches we eat and are presented with on a daily basis. The human body was never meant to eat that much refined sugar and complex carbs in a day.. Then again, it varies from person to person, so what worked for me, may not for you..

2004-05-08 08:19:30 AM
Back in the 70's, when Atkins was new, I lost my "freshman 40" on the diet. Nearly 30 years, and three children later, I never gained it back. The damned diet works.

Poor krispykreme.

2004-05-08 08:21:09 AM
Trouble is, fat people are lazy. That's why they're fat. And what lazy people want more than anything else is a quick and easy, silver-bullet solution to their problems. 20 years ago it was all about less calories. Then 10 years ago it was all about the trans-fatty acids. Now it's all about the carbohydrates. Compound this with pills, powders and junk science equipment advertised at 3am.....especially the ones that talk about "spot reduction" and "total body work out".

Stupid fat people, there's no such thing. What you have to get through your fat heads is that 1) There is no single answer for your fattyness and 2) Whatever does work for you is not going to work for everyone. Take into account environment, metabolism, stress, diet, and everything, there's no possible way anyone can even purport to believe that they've found the all-encompassing cure for fatness. Though if there's one thing that probably works better than all the rest, it's probably.......exercise. That's right: getchyer lazy ass off the couch, put the ding dongs down and go run around the block a couple times. Do that every day. When you get used to it and it no longer tires you out, up the workout regimen until you do get tired.

But what do I care. I'm not fat, have never been fat, and it doesn't matter how much greasy food I shovel into my bottomless stomach, I'm never going to gain weight. So there.

Krispy Kreme is jesus in a donut.

If jesus is a mouth watering orgasm of sweet sweet sweetness.

I was working on a community calender at the TV station I work for - oddest thing I ever saw on that was some Christian health organization having a fundraising drive with Krispy Kreme donuts.

/drat - now I want a KK donut ;)

2004-05-08 08:28:59 AM
The big deal for me has been that Atkins has given me _way_ more energy to work out with -- like, six hours on an exercise bike at max difficulty, no problem. So while exercise is clearly important, for at least some of us, a low-carb lifestyle is much more compatible with getting that exercise.

2004-05-08 08:29:26 AM
I'm so sick of this Goddammmed Atkins/low carb thing I could puke. Partly because it appeals mostly to fatties who hear they can eat steak wrapped in bacon soaked in butter as long as they don't eat a dinner roll but mostly because it's just another sign of what trend following sheeple people are.

But mark my words, if you fat farks cause Krispy Kreme to go out of business, it's whale season.

/skinny guy who eats KK like it has the Antedote.

Ishkur I'm never going to gain weight. So there.

So young, you are so very young. Never say never, dear heart.

hehe
"meat donut"
that has got to be the funniest thing I've heard all week.

2004-05-08 08:32:13 AM
MorrisBird, I was almost skinny once but that was over 24 years ago. Once you start getting older it goes downhill no matter what you do.

2004-05-08 08:36:30 AM
dmacaroon

I'm still skinny, painfully skinny. But, gravity happens anyway, and, yes, it's all downhill. Aging is not for the timid.

2004-05-08 08:42:38 AM
Also, I found, while on the diet, that you begin to hate food in general, not just sugars and the like. Yeah yeah, first week you like the fact that you can eat all this greazy crap, but if the honeymoon with those big portions isn't over in a week or two, you got bigger eating disorders than I know how to deal with. The way it worked for me is, I cut down to smaller portions because I just couldn't stomach eating all that protien..No insulin spikes (i'm really suseptible to them) due to very little or no carbs and smaller portion sizes worked wonders..

Seriously though, it works. As a kid I used to drink like 8 or 9 sodas a day..thats like 500 grams of sugar and the results were as you'd probably guess: Horrible..After I quit that and just about all the other carbs the weight came right off, with very little resistance.

2004-05-08 08:45:07 AM
Ishkur:

Though if there's one thing that probably works better than all the rest, it's probably.......exercise.
---

Actually, here they are in order of raw value (1=best):

1. Eat lower calorie foods and less of them.
2. Excersize, a reasonable level of it.
3. If you really want to lose as much as you can in
any given time, about all that's left is to excerise
harder, though it still won't beat #1, it does speed
up weight loss the more you do (but not as much as
you might expect for all the effort put in).

Overall, if the foods you're eating have a high proportion
of FAT, they will tend to make YOU fat. Same for sugars
and such. Greasy, fatty, sugary... high calorie foods...
yep, you will get fat. Avoid those, and you'll lose weight.

Just be more aware of what you're eating, look at the
calories listed on the packages and compare to other
foods... you'll get the right idea soon enough.

2004-05-08 08:45:38 AM
I prefer Dunkin Donuts.

2004-05-08 08:46:55 AM
I'm so sick of this Goddammmed Atkins/low carb thing I could puke. Partly because it appeals mostly to fatties who hear they can eat steak wrapped in bacon soaked in butter as long as they don't eat a dinner roll but mostly because it's just another sign of what trend following sheeple people are.

That illustrates quite nicely the most common misconception about the Atkins diet. I have read the book and done the diet and it worked great for me, but I never stuffed myself with "steak wrapped in bacon soaked in butter". Now that I'm on the final phase I only rarely eat refined sugar or starchy foods. I get my carbs from fruits, veggies, nuts, and a little bit of whole grains. I didn't go into the diet expecting quick fixes and I also exercise regularly (which Dr. Atkins stressed repeatedly in his book).

You're supposed to use low-carb candies in moderation. It's the "Snackwells syndrome" all over again- becasue it's low fat/carb, I can stuff my face with them! Wrong!

2004-05-08 08:47:32 AM
Im a fatty myself.. I mean, I'm not severely overweight, but I am lazy to exercise, mainly because I don't know what to do.. but eventually I'll get off my arse.. See, I want to lose weight, but A) lazy, and B) I don't have a routine, or know what to do...

Moreover, I'm ordering your CD.

2004-05-08 08:48:02 AM
MorrisBird, my wife is a vegetarian. I think that is the only reason why gravity hasn't hit her yet. Gravity is killing me though!

Not off subject - I love Krispy Kremes. I avoid them at the grocery, I avoid them at work, I just generally avoid them because they are like potato chips. You can't eat just one.

/someone please post a sexy 'got milk' here. I do not have any skills beyond 100wpm.

2004-05-08 08:50:02 AM
Young? I'm 26..... is there supposed to be some magical age in your 30s where you balloon out to the size of a whale or something?

2004-05-08 08:51:29 AM
Krispies wont ever leave - there will always be a stupid contingent of human that thinks that the perfect mixture of over-processed sugars and fats are a "good working breakfast".

Atkins is a perfect blend of "eat wrong and force the body into a state it was not meant to be in" and lose weight. It will pass as those who "eat out of balance" begin to experience "health out of balance".

Dear fat person - eat a balanced diet of foods that aren't processed quite so extensively. Exercise. Nobody said to do aerobics for 4 hours a day. Exercise to your own level. If you are so fooking fat that you can only raise your arm 30 degrees, then start there! Eat nothing from any of the center aisles of a grocery store! Drink 64 ounces of water a day (yes you will get more exercise from walking to the pee-room). Add fiber to your diet to help the water flush the toxins from your system.

But first and foremost - get off the goddam "rationalization" train. To lose weight, you have to do all of the right things. To exercise and then say "I exercised do I can eat 4 Big Macs" is wrong. to eat and apple and say "I ate a good food product so I can sit here and rest while the soaps are on" is also wrong.

One more thing - the only person that is feeling sorry for you is yourself. When you tell other people "I would love to get thin" and they nod and agree - they aren't sympathizing. They are agreeing that you are fat.

230 to 150 in 3 months. I am proud of it. I am justifiably arrogant about it. I also quit a 4 pack a day cigarette habit and a 6 pack of bud a day habit. I feel fooking great and can breathe now and can walk for 5 miles without getting winded. Bite me, fatty.

Morrisbird, Whoa and thank you! After Tower Records picked it up we sold out in one weekend. But I know there are more in stock now. Use the CD Baby off the web site, it's $2 cheaper then Tower or the two other sites that have it.

Thank you very much and enjoy.

Ishkur

You'd be very surprised. Then again, if you're a typical ectomorph, then you'll probably be fine. And when I say ectomorph I mean like, "I can see your ribcage no matter how hard you train" ectomorph.

I have the solution to obesity: Amphetamines!

They'll boost your metabolism, make all your muscles tense (hey, it's like a workout), reduce your appetite, and reduce your laziness!

Erm, someone already did this in "Requiem for a Dream". Damn, and I thought I could get rich and die of massive head trauma like Dr. Atkins.

/born and raised in the town that brought you Krispy Kreme. You're welcome.

Have to admit that this headline was funnier than mine.

Don't worry about their earnings, KKD is about to open up in Japan.

hoorah that's impressive. I'm on the same track myself. But only 10lbs into a 50lb goal. It was surprisingly easy to break the fast food and pop habit.

2004-05-08 08:58:34 AM
Yano, you guys are pretty fatalistically resigned to people blowing up after 40. A friend of mine used to be very out of shape and way overweight in his mid 30's. Divorced his wife, got back to peak form and is living quite nicely at 40. Never say it can't happen..and thats coming from a person that usually looks at the glass as being half empty.

2004-05-08 08:59:32 AM
Yeah, I'm an ectomorph--I don't deny that. I have like 0 body fat. I've hovered around 150 lbs. for most of my adult life. I'm 165 now, because I like to lift weights for shiats n giggles. And I like to run 2 miles in 10 minutes.

I have one of those fast metabolism thingamajiggers. I'm the kind of guy who NEEDS to eat LOTS of fat, otherwise I'll lose weight and my muscles actually shrink. It's odd. so yeah...my diet has lots of milk, lots of cheese, lots of dairy stuff. Fattening stuff....gets converted into muscle when I work out.

I can't see myself getting any bigger or smaller than this.

2004-05-08 09:00:02 AM
Pyr0 - can you say 'diarhea cha cha cha'

notinuse - there is no such thing as a bad donut, just bad people.

Exactly. I was asked to take a KK donut once recently,
didn't want a donut at the time, but I have to admit
that it was one of the worst donuts I've had, ever.

The absolute worst donut I've ever had, was years ago
where the bag of 'em were around gas fumes or had gas
spilled on them (dad was in construction) and I didn't
know it until I'd had one and my dad said they weren't
any good because of it... the KK donuts kinda reminded
me of that, though not as bad, it was a close second.

Ishkur - teh

/ in all seriousness - congrats. Have you showed your kids yet?

2004-05-08 09:06:30 AM
You kick ass, hoorah. Well said and good job.

I've always been too skinny so I have no credibility when I say that overweight people can change things by eating less and moving but it's the truth and it can be done. You might not ever be at your ideal weight if your metabolism and body type isn't such but there's no excuse for morbid obesity.

Give yourself ALOT of props. All day! You earn them and other people can't give them to you as much as you can.

Pop was easy to lose (and not subsitute with diet drinks). Water makes me feel better. If I need flavor, I make iced tea. If I need a burger, I fire up the grill and make one - I choose the fat content of the meat and the sugar/fat content of the bread (I make my own bread - it's an excellent zen moment in my weekends).

Anyways - good job. When you reach your goal - be VERY vocal and noisy about it! You will have earned it!
