Mexicali drivers wait four to five hours to cross into the U.S. just to fill their fuel tanks and then wait another two hours to cross back into Mexico again.

Unleaded prices in Mexicali were raised in January to 16.17 pesos a liter, or $2.815 a gallon

in El Centro, California, pump prices jumped 7.1 cents a gallon overnight to average $2.736

People are driving to the border and waiting 4 hours to cross the border, filling up their tanks and then waiting 2 more hours to cross back? And all that to save less than 8 cents per gallon? That doesn't sound right.

I don't know about San Ysidro, but in El Paso people used to drive across the border to buy more expensive gas in the US because Mexican gas sucked.

Of course, those were the same people who took the air cleaners out of their cars because they figured that they reduced gas mileage.

In Morocco they drive without lights at night to get better mileage.

Well, I suppose that's one way to get Mexico to pay for Trump's wall.

Make sure to change the headlight fluid every 3,500 miles for optimal mpg

It may make total sense.  CNN may be saying (unverified of course) that it may be said our gas is now prostitute urine fortified by our own President-Elect's efforts and this may be said by some to increase gas mileage.

Yeah. Isn't Canadians crossing into the US to buy milk at cost Costco a thing?  I remember seeing something about that. it was some time ago though so maybe not anymore.

I know it was a whole 3 lines into the article, but did you miss this part:
"Drivers are flooding across the border to southern California to fill up on gasoline, after protesters blocking distribution centers near the Baja California capital of Mexicali caused stations to run dry. "

It has nothing to do with price, the fuel stations in Mexicali were dry, so people went across the border to Calexico.

The milk thing is/was real. I had a Canadian friend and her parents used to talk about doing it

Your hourly wages are likely at least twice that of their daily wages, though. Mexico's minimum wage is about 70 pesos per day, equivalent to about $3, and that's only gone up due to inflation. So from their perspective, everything's getting more expensive, not just fuel (damn near everything has to be shipped over land), but their wages aren't going up. The fuel price getting jacked up 20% was just the final straw.

What's really gonna be interesting, though, is that now that Mexico's fuel prices will float with the cost of a barrel of oil like everyone else's, and with the cost of oil set to rise due to OPEC's production cap, things are only gonna get nastier in Mexico until their wages normalize.

And, gods forbid, if Russia decides to put Ukraine out of its misery, or Iran and Saudi Arabia decide to rip eachothers' throats out, or China starts interdicting oil shipments going through the SCS, anything along those lines will result in an oil price shock (think $150/barrel). Mexico's rioting over a 20% increase in the price of gas. I'd be surprised if Mexico doesn't end up on fire if the world decides to tack a 300% increase on top of that.

Taco Bell is a Mexican phone book.
I remember, a week before I got married in 1995, for Christmas I said I wanted a Vegas wedding, and a Mexican divorce. Made my wife cry when she read that. But we are owe coming up on 25 years together.

Anyone interested in an increasingly violent social upheaval started by the working class and one that is now targeting politicians and the 1%?  This is getting real, real fast!  HINT: It's not all about gasoline.

And naturally, Pemex's lowest grade of fuel was called "Nova" even though it should have been called "no va."
