You know, an icicle is the best way to murder someone, since you then let the icicle melt. The only problem is that everyone knows about this.

I am so glad I live in a heat island, the glacier will totally pass me by and freeze florida first.

I run through that park often, and I'm always astounded by the sheer number of complete f*cking morons that will gaze at, walk behind or climb all over that once winter begins to thaw and you can visibly tell that sh*t is starting to melt.

Of course, this means that next time a grounds keeper will be assigned to shoot them with a shotgun until they don't form an attractive nuisance.

When I was in college I was in a geomorphology class. We took a trip to Mt. Rainier and hiked to the terminal moraine of Emmons Glacier. There was a ice cave with a river running out of it and we were deciding whether or not to explore the cave when a chunk of Ice about the size of a VW bus dropped from the roof. Took photos, ate lunch and hiked back to the van. Amazing place.

I seen dat in a movie or a TeeVee show.  Or both. It might have even been a plot twist in a book. Or 2.

Maybe MPD ought to stop rescuing people from the falls.  After a few dozen deaths, maybe the rest of the morons would get the idea that it's not a good place to go farking around.

I think, rather than getting more officers to hang around and issue citations to trespassers at the Falls, they should back off, put signs up informing people that they're trespassing if they go any further and that no emergency services will be provided in the event of an accident, and let Darwin play.

2017-01-11 02:25:31 AM
I find it amusing how they refer to injured people as "trespassers." It's so cold. Assuming the proper "you shall not" signage was in place, they wouldn't be any more liable for the visitors' injuries simply because they showed a little empathy.

If you live in Silicon Valley, you'd be familiar with the CalTrain system suffering catastrophic delays every month or so. Usually it's from one of the trains striking a vehicle, but sometimes it's from a high school student throwing him/herself on the tracks. On Twitter, they always announce "Northbound delays because a trespasser was struck near blah...", which seems like an awfully insensitive way to refer to someone who just died. But they do it because they don't want to promote or glamorize the act in any way, in hopes that will discourage others from considering it.

But the park rangers, I don't know... it was an accident, they could show a little more sympathy.

Because this is Fark, I also don't give a sh*t and couldn't care less about who gets hurt or not :P

300 people with one icicle? That is bad ass. Thank you for your great service and incredible valor. I hope you share your obviously superior genetic material with as many fine young ladies as possible to assure the survival of our species.

Darwin is watching...

2017-01-11 07:55:18 AM
My loving smother^Wmother was one of the witnesses of that incident, she and a friend were taking some pictures (she recently retired and needed a hobby) and apparently the two of them were tutting to each other and recounting half-remembered stories about people getting injured doing what those fools were doing.

God bless Mom's heart, she said "Charles Darwin is watching" to her friend. Whether before or after, I'm not sure, I was laughing too hard.

That ice climber died in the fall. That's why the clip stops where it did. His family has tried to have the video pulled, but you know how well that works.

(not so)CSB: Every time I hear that song (or see it referenced), my first and nearly only memory is of the best bad round of CoD I ever played. It was with me, my brother and a couple buddies, on a Black Ops map with a cave/waterfall. A buddy was frantically asking for help near the waterfall when my brother busts out this loud, cracking, gawdawful falsetto "DON'T GO CHASIN' WATERFALLS" that cracked us up to the point where we might as well have left the game for all the good we did after that.

The video won't appear on that page for me (adblock or no), so I don't know what it shows. Anyway, there are always people milling around under that overhang. This is mid-April, with the last bits of ice and snow lingering there. I remember when I took this, a guy standing next to me was videoing the same view with his phone. He was recording when I got there, and still recording when I left, just patiently waiting.
