(Some Guy)   Russia scraps its cloned dogs of war program because the first batch of superpups couldn't handle the cold. Looks like they were barking up the wrong tree. Hello? Is this thing on?   ( en.mogaznews.com) divider line

The animals were gifted by a South Korean cloning expert who is also seeking to bring the extinct woolly mammoth back to life using genetic material preserved in the Siberian permafrost.

What could possibly go wrong?

"No, mostly just doggy style."

Why do through the hassle of cloning? Dogs breed pretty dang good on their own.

"...best sniffer dogs" We have those already, they're called basset hounds.

These poor scientists will be hounded because they didn't retrieve the correct genes. As I re-collie, their government is too setter in their ways, so now they are in a big pile of poodle.

That's right, pick the short-haired Belgian, not the Shepherd, then be surprised when they do not stand up to cold.

I was also surprised at that choice. Belgian Malinois are fantastic dogs but don't have the heavy coat or build for serious work in the snow. The US military switched that Malinois as the primary war dog in the Mideast because they handle the heat better.

/I have a rescued Malinois and she is an absolute sweetie

They should focus on bringing back mammoths and train them to detect bombs. Who needs a crime fighting dog when you can have Snuffleupagus?

Thank God our hormonally engineered police officer program is surpassing all expectations.

As an aside, when America was trying to accuse China of being the cause of the carfentanyl epidemic, the Chinese government threatened to release the names of American anabolic steroid purchasers in the United States.

That would be a shiatshow.  Turns out that the people who buy the most anabolic steroids on the Chinese market don't exactly work at Pottery Barn... Unless they're moonlighting as security.

Well, it was reposted from the Daily Mail, who has a history of saying the same thing over and over again in between the pictures. I think they do this in order to make it seem like they put way more journalistic effort into their articles than we all know they do. Because saying the same thing over and over, slightly rephrased makes it look like there's new information to read in between pictures. Because the Daily Mail likes to make it sound like they know what journalistic effort is. Like saying the same thing over and over again in the same article. Because it makes it seem like there's way more effort put into an article than there actually is. You can really say the same thing over and over again enough times to make it sound like you know what you're talking about. Even though you don't. Like the Daily Mail does when they put in the same information over and over again in between the articles. Because it makes it seem like they put way more effort into an article than they actually do.

Yeah, I don't get those Korean scientists... Smart enough and know enough about the dogs to clone them, but don't know that they're not built for harsh cold?

I mean, for fark's sake, that's just idiotic. Haven't they ever noticed that different dog breeds have different fur? WTF do they think fur is farking for? Do they not know Siberia is cold? Had none of them ever seen a picture of a Malinois before? You don't have to be a freakin' Nobel prize winning Jeopardy winner/rocket scientist to see the flaw in that plan. A quick, "Hey boss, why don't we find somewhere in

You're right, Shepherds have thicker coats. My dog is a lab/GSD mix and he's got the black color of the lab, but the double coat of the shepherd which gives him better insulation. My sister has a Malinois. My boy loves the cold - albeit I've never taken him to Siberia. My sister's dog, not so much.

edit fail...

A quick, "Hey boss, why don't we find somewhere in Australia to send them" or something could have went a long way.

Instead of cloning dogs with superior bomb detecting noses, how about breeding them with dogs with superior cold handling abilities like I don't know, huskies?

On a related note I went to the pharmacy yesterday to renew my meds and there was a small dog that seemed to be tied outside in the cold weather (-20 Celsius), it had the fur to withstand the cold but I was slightly worried that it might have been abandoned so I decided to stay with it if it was still there once I completed my business. It did not look in difficulty or cold. When I entered the pharmacy I saw through a window that it was not tied to something but that a human hiding from the wind in a recessed corner of the building had it on a leash, they were both gone when I left.

The sad part of it all is that I heard, many years ago, that dogs used in combat never go home - when they're too old, or the war's over, they have to put them down; you just cannot take them back to civilization.
