He appeared before a committee of the British Parliament in January, telling legislators that Volkswagen's behavior was not illegal in Europe

"Hey...you never said that we couldn't tie you down, pry open your mouth and shiat in it. How were we supposed to know we weren't supposed to do that?"

No bail for Herr Schmidt, eh? Geez, if only there was some way his good work could set him free.

The hopes he had were much too high
Way out of reach but he had to try
Nowhere to hide, nowhere to run
'Cause all the coppers come one by one

Well, VW's Lawyers can always point to Wall Street as a precedent for zero charges for (also successful) conspiracy to defraud the United States in 2007/2008.

Friday I sell back the TDI and 30 years of VWs. In the dark days of pollution controlled cars a friends father used to race Formula Vee and was sponsored by a dealership. The dealer would help us get Euro-spec Golfs and GTIs. There was a 16v Scirocco in there too. When my wife's car died we replaced it with a VR6 GTI. A little soft but it went when you wanted it. It will be a decade or two before I look at another VW.

Engineers?  Yikes. Maybe I need to get a CEO position instead. Guaranteed immunity.

/ all they ever do is speak with shareholders
// they have no idea what's going on inside the company
