This farkin rocks!

2004-04-30 11:43:43 AM
The rumor is that after 9am they are going to start blocking all of the freeways.

Ah cali, gotta love it.

Bwahahahahahaha!

2004-04-30 11:52:54 AM
Why don't any of these douchebags protest by jumping off cliffs?

2004-04-30 11:56:12 AM
EatHam, because then they would cause a massive landslide, thus opening a whole new can of worms.

/if they'd convert their trucks to run on moonshine, we wouldn't have this problem...

2004-04-30 11:57:26 AM
Why don't they truck their own gas from a different state? afterall they are truckers, arn't they?

2004-04-30 11:59:05 AM
I know if I lived there I would come down with a bad cold right away and call the boss.

2004-04-30 12:01:10 PM
Just think of the fuel that will be used by the Cali idiots sitting on the 10 with their ACs running...yeah, that'll drop the price...

Ugh.

When I lived in France, there were general strikes like this all the time. Some group got pissed, and used their vehicles to block the entire roadway. Goodtimes.

I guess what these guys are pissed about is the rise in diesel fuel prices. I drive a diesel, and I've noticed that diesel fuel costs more than "normal" fuel. It's the sucks.

I understand and support civil disobedience . . . but something like this is a bad idea, I think. It's tough to get people on your side when you're farking up the freeways, especially in Los Angeles.

2004-04-30 12:10:08 PM
How could anyone tell? Like it's not bumper-to-bumper anyway.

2004-04-30 12:20:28 PM
Step 1: Block traffic
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Lower diesel prices!
Bunch of motards.

Follow the motards here. This is the Los Angeles CHP dispatch log for the protests.

Catalysts are not always good events, by the slow raping of consumers isn't better because it is drawn out.

My family and I own a small trucking company that ships into California on a pretty regular basis. Due to the high gas prices in Cali, I can barely afford to put food on the table. Seriously.

As far as buying fuel in another state, most of the major entrance points into California are almost as high. In addition, it is a common practice to go through ports of entry with a half tank of fuel to avoid truck overweight fines. (Of course my company would NEVER do that). So, a truck is stuck paying $2.30 per gallon to fill up.

One thing people may not realize is that if truck's can't afford to run due to high fuel prices, then 90% of the food you eat won't make it to the store that you purchase it at. So if trucks go out of business because of high fuel costs, the supply of trucks will go down, thereby driving up the cost to ship food. Ultimately, this cost will be passed on to you, the consumer.

So, although this was a BIG inconvenience for the people stuck behind the trucks, imagine the inconvenience you'll feel in your pocketbook when you're grocery bill doubles. Although a pain right now, the strike today will ultimately prevent anyone living in the Western United States from paying MORE money.

2004-04-30 02:04:01 PM
twoody about how far can trucks go on a fill up?

2004-04-30 02:05:01 PM
Most trucks haul 150-200 gallons of diesel and get between 4 and 5 miles to the gallon.

2004-04-30 02:16:32 PM
This must be the first traffic jam in California history. Ever.

'Convoy' meets The Governator. This should be fantastic, good buddy.

I bet they'd move their butts off the road ASAP if they found out this is how French farmers stage protests.

Woulda brought a tear to CW McCall's eye.

2004-04-30 02:18:27 PM
Blocking the roads, making people (who also hate high gas prices) late for work?

Yeah, way to get sympathy guys. Tell that to the person who just got canned for being late to work.

2004-04-30 02:18:33 PM
"She said her group feared that motorist anger over the traffic tie-ups today could hurt the group's efforts to win a reprieve from the law requiring additives."

Gee, ya think?

I'm usually against the death penalty but in this case..

/throw in rubberneckers and slow left lane drivers while your at it

2004-04-30 02:18:52 PM
They're not going to like another law that I've been hearing about. Apparently, the state wanted to start charging truckers heavy fees for picking up cargo at all docks in California during certain hours. The whole point was to discourage trucks driving around the cities and on already tangled freeways during daylight hours and peak hours of traffic.

2004-04-30 02:18:56 PM
"Wait a minute...This is totally gay. Back on the pile."

2004-04-30 02:18:59 PM
Good for them. Block all the roads until the stations get the message, "stop gouging people." Maybe California will get the message too, "stop using a hundred different kinds of gas blends."

It was about time some ideology ran smack into reality.

2004-04-30 02:19:17 PM
What better way to get your point across than piss off potential sympathizers?

2004-04-30 02:20:27 PM
Good Job

I like that idea. A peaceful protest where no one got hurt. No one can honestly say they did it for a bad reason, either.

2004-04-30 02:20:38 PM
Stupid headline... Everyone knows that trucks run on "diesel", not "gas".

2004-04-30 02:20:42 PM
imagine the inconvenience you'll feel in your pocketbook when you're grocery bill doubles.

If my grocery bill doubles, I'm going to have to cannibalize my neighbors.

Mmm.. Mexican

Damn...forgot the slash. Sorry.

Say what you will - a million idiots took note.

2004-04-30 02:21:29 PM
Truckers here in Ontario dis this years ago, but they would just drive about 2-3 mph instead of actually stopping. They were on strike for something or other.

I was in High School and we had a field trip to Niagara Falls. Usually this is a 90min-2hr drive. It took 6 hours to get there and we had to turn around and come back.

I hate school buses.

Gas here went up about 15% overnight last night. $.85 a litre (like $2.31 USD/gallon). They had three people interviewed on the news that threatened to get smaller cars if this kept up. Duh.

/Gas is too cheap.

2004-04-30 02:21:31 PM
What a productive way to protest. Now when all the emergency vehicles can't get through, or doctors on their way to do their jobs at hospitals can't get there, or people going to a hard to find job interview is late and don't have a shot at a job now, or someone is trying to get to any number of important events that happen every day can't make it - at least they'll know they made a stand in gas prices. Asshats. This kind of protest doesn't do anything except block traffic!

2004-04-30 02:22:18 PM
I guess what these guys are pissed about is the rise in diesel fuel prices. I drive a diesel, and I've noticed that diesel fuel costs more than "normal" fuel. It's the sucks.

Thanks to California additives and their 'unique' geological configuration. LA, like Mexico City, has issues with air circulation, and ozone/NOx/particulates tend to get trapped over the city. I can understand the measures taken by CA to reduce smog and air pollution, I just get pissy when other states mandate CARB because they're too lazy or gutless to actually come up with their own customized legislation (which should actually _encourage_ diesel passenger use thanks to its built-in efficiency advantages).

Last weekend on the NJ Turnpike, diesel was $1.55/g, full service, and that was at a rest area. 87 octane gas was $1.69.

I wonder what truckers did who were carrying fuel...

2004-04-30 02:24:02 PM
Wonder how many got shot by road ragers

2004-04-30 02:25:15 PM
I'd certainly be frustrated with them if I had to drive on
the freeway right now, but seriously, what do you expect
them to do? The gas moguls are driving prices up like mad
and I totally understand their plight.

I already am very careful with my gas and I'm spending
around $100 a month to keep my tank full. Not to mention
the already gouging auto-insurance rates. I'm spending
around $250 a month just to be able to get to work and the
grocery store. I can only imagine what these truckers are
spending.

We should all be protesting like them.

Similar protests have occured in PA..I was, unfortunately, stuck in one once.
I still don't understand the logic behind blocking roadways to get your point across.

2004-04-30 02:26:15 PM
Lets see;

citizens prevented from getting to work - check
owners of oil companies who are making the money - unaffected.

Excellent idea boys. What a well thought out plan.

2004-04-30 02:27:12 PM
Unless your point was to block roadways...for some reason I suppose.

2004-04-30 02:27:33 PM
The semester I spent in France during my college days, it was a big pain in the ass to get around by train, because the railway workers kept striking. Seriously, they went on strike three times during the five months I was there. An American basketball team even got stranded in Italy for a while when the Italian rail workers joined in one of the strikes. After the first one, I didn't feel sympathetic to their plight (hoping for two months of vacation, rather than the paltry six weeks they had). I was just annoyed.

These truckers' hearts are in the right place, but they're just pissing people off.

2004-04-30 02:27:34 PM
I'm sure this is going to do a lot to help....

Civil disobence is usually a load of crap.....its another way of acting like an infant to get your way.

2004-04-30 02:28:15 PM
They could always shoot fuel trucks full of magnesium tracers...

/I didn't say that...

2004-04-30 02:28:46 PM

2004-04-30 02:29:00 PM
Oh Oh! Gas prices are SOOOO high. Oh, wait. No they aren't.

Asshat pussy whiners.

2004-04-30 02:29:41 PM
Way to go as far as I'm concerned. I know it was an inconvenience to many at the time, but they got over it, didn't they? No one got hurt, right? Do you honestly think anyone would pay any attention to a 'truck driver' any other way? When do they have time to stand on a street corner and protest? They don't - they are too busy hauling your food and consumer products across these great US Highways to your front door. My only hope is that something good comes from it.
