A healthy round of DUMBASS for all! Let's make a horrible situation worse. It's not like there are many reasons already for the Iraqis to resent and distrust us. Let's round up civilians at check points, imprison, and torture them (while trying to negotiate a cease-fire with the real insurgents). Better yet, let's take pictures so there's evidence!

We need people this stupid and reckless over there like we need.....well, like we need to be over there in the first place.

I think they mean the Muslim World. I think Arabs only live in Saudi Arabia. I do know that Iranians aren't Arabs, nor Northern Africans.

Has anybody mentioned this?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1206725,00.html

A military report into the Abu Ghraib case - parts of which were made available to the Guardian - makes it clear that private contractors were supervising interrogations in the prison, which was notorious for torture and executions under Saddam Hussein.

One civilian contractor was accused of raping a young, male prisoner but has not been charged because military law has no jurisdiction over him.

While what the US troops did here is inexcusable, and a disgrace to their uniform and their country, where the hell is the backlash in the arab world for what they do to their prisoners? How many people are being held hostage right now? How many civilians were attacked just because they were westerners? How many 5 year olds die everytime someone decides to blow the roof off a bus in isreal?

Mr. Kettle, a Mr. Pot is on phone, he has something he wants to tell you.....

I really think the world needs to take a breather for a few, and recognize the fact that for the most part, humanity has become a bunch of asses who have this misguided notion they are automatically entitled to the world, and what they want is all that matters.

Sure are a load of enlightened posts on this topic, and judging from the historical treatment of foreigners it seems to run in American blood. Keep up the fine torturing y'all!

Reginleif

First of all, what percentage of Xtians shoot doctors or support those who do, compared to the percentage of Muslims who commit terrorism or support those who do?

Not sure on the Christian percentage, but the government estimates the Muslim terror supports at about... 0.01% of the Muslim population. Basically one in every 10,000 Muslims supports terror.

Bear in mind that there are more than a billion Muslims in the world today. Heck, there are more than million of them living in the US today. If even 1% of those supported terror, we'd have 10,000 would-be suicide bombers already inside our border. There's no way that the FBI could keep tabs on that many. We'd be reading about attacks inside our borders every single day.

No, the number of psycho Muslims out there is a tiny percentage of the Muslim population, just like the percentage of whacko Christians is small, too.

ms.sin: Hahahaha, Reginleif, a little hot under the collar are you? Flame on baby, I never said whether or not I agreed or disagreed with the topic.

So you regularly post intensely serious song lyrics with which you disagree? Ooooooo-kay.

And yes, I do happen to think if the world didn't have all hate and war mongering, the it might actually be a livable place.

You forgot the bit about everyone on the planet joining hands in a gigantic chain and singing "Kumbaya." Maybe they can simulcast it in hundreds of cities around the globe, so that nobody misses a note or a beat.

There are other problems in the world besides who hates who, who is right or wrong, etc.

All those other problems, in essence, boil down to right and wrong. Unless, of course, you subscribe to the PoMo/morally relative school of thought that says there is no right or wrong...just different "narratives."

I think I hear your bong calling you.

Is it too late too just say "Our bad. We really thought he had nukes. All yours Iraq. Really sorry bout that hostile take over thing."
I bet Ossama bin Laden is rolling on the floor of some cave laughing his farking head off. Who the h3ll would of imagined us farking up quite this bad?
/I see two options at this November:
/1: Kerry gets elected. America cooperates with european
/union. Gives up on Iraq. Ossama is in a casket one week
/after we put a solid effort into finding him.
/2: Bush gets elected. America desperatley tries to hold
/onto Iraq. Hostilitys, draft, and inevitable world
/intervention (war) ensues. Globalisation leads to the
/creation of cooperations more powerfull than the whole of
/the western world.

Why's that? They want to join the naked pyramid?

I think what most people are missing is that the US GENERALLY abides by the rules governing POW's etc. The Arab dictatorships GENERALLY do not. To act like a America is the moral equivalent to any country in the Mid East except for Israel is a joke. What these people did is wrong, but anytime you have war things like this will happen. For this to be the only known incident over the course of two wars is not that bad.

The bottom line is we only care about the arabs because they have oil...They can only hurt us because we're funding the terrorists. Where did Bin Laden get all his money? Oil. Once we get off this oil kick, the middle east will go back to the third world country it is.

Appallingly, you're right. Once we get into fusion power, etc, and get off the oil teat, we can build Fortress North America and live like gods. It'll happen, probably in my lifetime.

I think it's time to abolish America!

Break it up into 5-6 nations and end the evil hegemony. Either that, or simply kill every American. There'd be no more evil American multilateral corporations, no more PNAC, no more Dubya, etc.

While we're at it, we can just abolish Judaism as well.

This move will obviously install a new era of peace and prosperity throughout the world.

2004-04-30 05:19:43 PM
"I think what most people are missing is that the US GENERALLY abides by the rules governing POW's etc."

While I agree, this does us shiat-all good since it now appears to the whole world that it's not true.

"What these people did is wrong, but anytime you have war things like this will happen."

I hope that no one in the military shares your point of view.

2004-04-30 05:19:43 PM
So what? Nothing's changed. They're going to hate the US as long as our existence provides the Arab 'street' with a convenient scapegoat for the catastrophic societal ills inflicted upon ordinary Arabs by themselves and their corrupt despotic leaders. It's a fact: They love to hate us.

And on a different note, I'm not saying what the US soldiers did to those POWs is right, but anyone who compares it to Saddam Hussein's torture clearly didn't read too much about his methods.

would someoen clear up to me just how many of these abusive american soldiers were chicks?

2004-04-30 05:20:14 PM
I think what the soldiers did was deplorable, but I also think that it grew out of their training. I mean, these men are women are trained to shoot to kill, for chrissakes -- of course they will have learned to hate, mock, and ridicule their enemy!

Where do you think the terms "raghead" and "kraut" came from?

So, while Bush and the military spokespeople may be publicly denouncing these photos, in private I'm sure they chuckled.

2004-04-30 05:20:36 PM
I think it is safe to say that these 6 (or 16) soldiers that have been charged with these crimes behaved this way for 3 reasons.

1) They were immature.
2) They were poorly trained.
3) They were taught to hate.

I, myself, have complained that parts of the Arab world are teaching their children to hate. Now, I see that we Americans are teaching our children to hate as well. Put simply, you could not do what those soldiers did to the EPWs unless you had hate in your heart.

Up until this incident, I have been relatively satisfied with the behavior of our troops. You have 135K troops over there performing a nearly impossible task with composure and professionalism. Now, 16 of them are going to nullify the work of 135K others.

I think we need to make very public and very strong examples out of these 6.

Among the images shown by the news channels was that of a hooded prisoner standing on a box with wires attached to his hands. CBS reported that the prisoner was told that if he fell off the box, he would be electrocuted

Survivor did this last night... just kidding. This is not cool. This is the kind of thing the "bad" guards do in crappy jailbreak movies. Later the hero impales them on a spike during the jailbreak and we all cheer that they've died slow painful deaths because they really deserved it. I am serious when I say that any soldier involved in this should be imprisoned for life.

The photos appeared to show soldiers at the Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad posing and laughing as naked male prisoners were stacked in a pyramid or made to simulate sex acts with one another.

This is totally farked up. These men are going to be scarred for life, assuming they're mildly homophobic like what, 80%? of men in North America. Imagine being forced into sexual positions with another man at gunpoint. Yeah, there's a nasty experience that's going to haunt you until the end of your days. Any soldier found to have been involved should be executed immediately. And by involved I mean the guys who thought it up, the guys who made it happen, and every person who stood around and didn't stop it.

If any of these prisoners were considering joining a terrorist group but weren't totally convinced, they are now.

Nice job, you stupid American farktards. How can so many (hopefully) decent soldiers stand by and let this shiat happen? Are we better than our enemy? Or are we all just farking animals? Animals it is, I guess.

NutznGum, they started it. They've been making it pretty clear for several decades what they want to happen to us infidels.

oh..yeah..I have the parts and the experience, but I'm too old.

Yeah, every single arab started it right? every last one of them, including their children, right?

If i replaced the word 'arab' with 'jew' in this thread we'd have the complete text of Mein Kampf.

I know I godwinned this thread. I only wish it really would stop this thread.

I doubt they "chuckled" when they saw the pictures, simply because now the entire world knows.

Horrible, horrible thing to have happened. Because I do/did support the war, but not like this... not like this.

On the other side of things, you gotta expect torture in situations like this. Suuure, the US Govt having signed the Geneva Convention will not result to torture... suuuure. But who's the farking moron that took the picture in the first place... blech!

Anywho... horrible...

And yet they were cheering and laughing as they dragged and mutilated workers who are trying to rebuild their country through the streets. Yes what the US troops there did was wrong and they will pay for it, but someone tell me why I should care again about some lowly iraqi prisoners who would be killing and mutilating american bodies if they were given a spoon to attack with?

"Much easier than actually having to deal with a very flawed world in which every so often, huge numbers of people join totalitarian movements that supposedly seek to create a better world, but end up slaughtering millions indiscriminately. And in which, as George Orwell supposedly said, "We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.""

I find the following Orwell quote far more appropriate to what we're experiencing now:

"We are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when we are finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right. Intellectually, it is possible to carry on this process for an indefinite time: the only check on it is that sooner or later a false belief bumps up against solid reality, usually on a battlefield."

Corporations don't have any "power", they deal in voluntary trade.

That's a load of crap. Corporations, particlarly multinationals, wield an immense amount of power. For example, they can bribe, bully or threaten a country's government into enacting legislation favorable to their industry, thus directly affecting the lives of the citizens, who will now make a lower minimum wage or have fewer safety regualtions.

fark 'em. They're lucky they didn't get two shots to the back of the head and had their corpses paraded down the streets. I say we match brutality with brutality; sadly, history shows us that won't work.

The idiot dirtbag in me also says it sucks that eventually one of those crazy bastards is gonna smuggle a dirty bomb into NYC or release the ebola virus onto the American public while we have the technology to wipe em out with the push of a button.

This is a no-win situation that only the next global plague will cure. Unless, of course, God materializes out of the Land of Make Believe, choose a side and go Old Testament on whomever is wrong.

Any time I see this kind of news or hear of some other Arab agency or Mullah or clown with a towel on his head protest of their treatment, I simply look at pictures of 9/11, or the bombing of the USS Cole or the Marine Barracks in Beirut or the US Embassy in Yemen or gassed Kurds lying in the street by the hundreds or security agents hanging from a bridge, burned beyond all recognition and I forget all about whining Arab protests and remember what it is that we are dealing with here.

Check up on your own recent history

Death Poot

That was actually the strategy behind Shock and Awe. If you did around the PNAC website, you'll find the original essay by Kagan (although it might be someone else). The general premise was this: If you're going to bomb a place and cause "collateral damage", the media/people will be outraged, no matter how few civilians get killed. Therefore, you might as well go full out and really cause some carnage, which will instil fear and respect in your enemy.

Of course, what the author fails to point out is that a) he has never fought, b) he has never been bombed, c) he has no dick. And as we can now see, the application of Shock and Awe has been a resounding success.
