Fecal Pandora

Not that anyone will notice this far down in the thread, but NASA is NOT a part of the Air Force. It is an independent government agency (like the EPA).

Obviously not, RandyRick.

I made 80k in 2001, hasn't made 80k combined since. And yes, I have been working. No, I haven't quit my industry, and yes, I would like to make that much again.

Wow what a lot of money. If I were king I would take all that amount of money and give it equally among all the people of my kingdom(the US) and everyone would party!

"The US has a 97% literacyrate...is'nt that kind of disturbing? ... Every 30th person or so does not know how to read ..."

Anyone who has the mental capacity and WANTS to learn to read in this country has the opportunity to do so. Nothing is stopping that 30th person, except themselves.

Maybe we should be dusting off the plans for the neutron bomb.
They're perfect for use on oil fields.

Maybe next time, the votes in Florida will be counted!

Nothing is stopping that 30th person, except themselves.

Sometimes severe learning disabilities coupled with apathetic or overworked teachers and barely-home parents can lead people to, if not total illiteracy, reading at barely more than a fourth-grade level.

2004-04-24 12:40:25 PM
Yeah, vote Kerry, and vote away our 2nd ammendment. He's signed every anti-gun law into effect that's passed his desk.

Conservative Republicans are worthless without a war, cold or otherwise. Come to think of it, they're worthless any which way. These people trade pretty much exclusively in human death. They increase America's production of WMD's not out of a reasoned protection for the American public, but because their disease-addled brains live in paranoid fear every waking moment. I see very little difference in their world outlook than that of Saddam Hussein.

I've seen more threads here and elsewhere filled with conservatives who would happily give up the Bill of Rights on a lark than I care to remember. Conservatives are the least American of us all.

Yeah, vote Kerry, and vote away our 2nd ammendment. He's signed every anti-gun law into effect that's passed his desk.

Vote Bush and vote away our civil rights, our soldiers' lives, our credibility as a country, our closest allies, our economy, and a woman's right to choose.

But hey--who needs those things if you can own assault weapons?

2004-04-24 12:45:57 PM
haven't, my bad.

I am with you Stopheles, I won't look at one stance to judge the candidates on. In this regard, I am sure Kerry would encounter enough stiff resistance to not pass any gun control laws if prez, while our current prez has had practically zero resistance passing laws that effect our other bill of rights.

This is all in preparation for the coming oil wars. I totally call dibs on the mossberg after we're all drafted.

I'd rather lose the second than the first (and the 4th, and the 10th)

All you people who wonder why the rest of the world looks at America and sighs, you can find the answer in almost every single fark thread. You don't even do party based democracy well. It's all 'Well the other side will take away the , and are just generally evil/pathetic.'

You are the most powerful nation on Earth, the guardians of western civilisation, the one country who could bring peace to vast swathes of land occupied by tyrants and murderers, and instead you occupy your time pretending that the party you don't support are going to make you a fascist/communist superstate.

Now stop it and grow up, you are over 200 years old now, it's time to stop acting like a country of ideologically petulant children.

Actually that was from Return of the Jedi {Darth Sidious to Luke).

At least Kerry knows how to use a gun.

has it ever been broiughtr to your attention that if you loose any of one these rights, you lose them all?

The truly scary thing is they are spending money on the "robust nuclear earth-penetrator." This is a bomb they want to USE.

Don't think the US is top or in the top ten for education expenditure.(http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/edu_edu_spe - Number 47 on that list)

All that link proves is that there are plenty of countries with a smaller GDP than the US. It shows how much spending as a percentage of GDP, not dollars per student or any other meaningful statistic.

2004-04-24 01:02:58 PM
yes, the mods are going a bit overboard on this thread aren't they?

leejunfan;
The 2nd amendment is about your legal right to own a weapon (completely unspecified) - for the intent of armed rebellion when things get "too bad" - and I reckon YOUR definition of "too bad" is banning guns. So when they ban guns, If you really want to stand up for your 2nd amendment rights, I hold it to you as your Patriotic Duty to take you "Arms" and start a rebellion in the US. Go ahead. Find a cop, a US Soldier, and SHOOT THE FARKER, for working for the evil government that banned your guns. Go into the US Capitol Building, and start shooting away.

I'll be looking for your postcard from Guantanamo.
The second amendment is nice and all - but it's irrelevant in this modern age, unless you, as an individual citizen, can buy a B1 bomber and a set of cruise missiles. - and in FACT, in order for your 2nd Amendment Rights to be excercised, you've got to break the law anyway - so frankly, you don't really NEED this as a right.

I'm with Stopheles;
The President has already violated your 1st, 4th, 6th, 9th, and 14th Amendments (and I'm sure he's polishing up the 5th for his own use). It's already too late.

DeadBaby;
You can keep it. I'm gonna be an Ambulance Driver. Like that writer guy.

If they didn't spend your money...Who would?

/I keed

2004-04-24 01:13:40 PM
I don't think it's specified in the article, but I would be surprised if a large portion of this money isn't being used to dismantle the old weapons...also, I think you have to keep making tritium and deuterium for fusion weapons b/c they get weak a lot quicker than just plutonium/uranium weapons.

SquirrelWithLargeNuts

We already spend the most per student out of all the countries in the world (IIRC, if not we're in the top 10), throwing money at a problem is obviously not the answer.

At least you're getting a product from that, rather than wasting money.

No more money for schools then? How about a better military appication for said funds? Read this article for an idea of just how many things the military needs (spare parts, body armor, logistics), which could adequately be payed for by scratching funding for something that it really doesn't (nuclear weapons)

Just when I thought the Bush Administration couldn't get any worse, they come up with some new way to terrify me..

They're building and upgrading nukes because they want to USE the freakin things!

It's silly notions like that that make me lose faith in the general american public. It is entirely possible for nuclear weapons to be extremely useful in tactical situations. We're obviously not going to nuke a city, and please tell me, what is the difference between killing soliders with conventional bombs and nuclear bombs? They're just as dead.

Personally, i'd rather see us spend plenty of money on the nuclear program, rather than let our weapons deteriorate, as in russia.

Oh and to all of you who are complaining about this hurting the economy, defense spending is one of the best ways to improve the economy, so shut your holes.

2004-04-24 01:26:06 PM
This article is all wrong. It should be subtitled "Why Congress is spending so much on nuclear weapons."

2004-04-24 01:27:41 PM
All I can is that this is just plain stupid. Our president needs replacing.

Yeah...right...I'm sure that the 2nd ammendment will just up and implode with Kerry in office. Damn, then I coulnd't buy that SAM I wanted for duck hunting season.

Considering that the NRA still exists I'm not really worried about the 2nd ammendment. What worries me is more Patriot Act BS being created under Bush.

Meh. I say we just nuke this whole thread from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

We already spend the most per student out of all the countries in the world (IIRC, if not we're in the top 10), throwing money at a problem is obviously not the answer.

But the problem is that the money for education is not thrown in equal distributions. If it were, the inner city schools would have new text books for each student and the suburban schools wouldn't have 3 Olympic swimming pools.

2004-04-24 01:36:44 PM
This whole mess of history we're in right now reminds me of a psychology term I heard of called "projecting." Kinda like how a wife cheats on her husbands and divorces him on grounds of adultery...even though he hasn't been untrue at all, while she had!

"Yeah, there are WMD's in Iraq...we've brought them there! and we're gonna find a whole lot more...just after they get off the boat."
