I'm sorry to say it, man, but the new "barjockey/cock" meme is actually a pretty funny fark cliche. If you see me post it sometime, please don't be too offended (a little offended is OK, I guess).

Old & busted = "It's a trap"
New hotness = "Shut up barjockey, you cock"

Six portable toilets for 2,500 soldiers. I bet that's a nice scene!

Of course, the obvious irony here that most Iraqis fail to see is that this is their own people doing the killing of fellow Iraqis, yet, we're the 'Great Satan'.

I cannot understand the Religious Fanatical Mind. The lights are on, but no one is home.

Damn, I just read that CNN link. Here's an interesting bit:

A senior Interior Ministry official said authorities were tipped off to six explosive devices. He said authorities were able to find and defuse five. However, he said the sixth exploded.

So that massive explosion was only 1/6 of what was in place before the bomb squad arrived. Wow.

/going off to find more coverage

2004-04-21 09:32:29 AM
Wow man! This whole "bomb the shiat out of everyone we don't like" thing sure is working out well! I mean, hell! I know *I* feel safer knowing that a large percentage of the world hates us more than ever before due to actions undertaken by my "democratically elected" leaders! Look at the positive results it's achieved so far! Hundreds of billions from our pockets to... corrupt "officials" in Iraq, hundreds of soldiers killed, THOUSANDS wounded, God-only-knows how many dead Iraqis, both innocent AND guilty, and well wouldn't ya know it! Our influence in the world has actually DECREASED as a result of our hubris!

Thanks, Bush! You've done wonders! No, really!

2004-04-21 09:33:41 AM
We, as a member state in the Organization of Toilet Paper Exporting Countries, must step up production so that the people of Iraq do not have burning asses that lead them to suicide bomb women and children.

You pack them in your A-bag. Customs never wants to search through chem gear, nasty boots, dirty underwear, goggles, stained neckerchiefs, smelly bedding and three tons of mosquito netting. They always let that go.

How sad is it that somebody wants to be cool in front of other, anonymous people? And how sad is it that there is already at least one follower?

I always laughed whenever somebody would call somebody else a "sheeple". Never thought that anybody could be so brainless as to follow somebody else's lead.

Then again, this is binnster we're talking about, so...

Hotdog - Iraqis aren't dumb. Of course they're aware that they're killing their own people. The people they're killing are the police, who get their orders from the 'great satan'. It's not too hard to figure out.

As for the workings of the Religious Fanatical Mind - you got me there. Check out this quote from Bush, when asked if he asked Bush Sr. for advice on the invasion of Iraq:

"He is the wrong father to appeal to for advice. The wrong father to go to, to appeal to in terms of strength. There's a higher Father that I appeal to."

2004-04-21 09:38:08 AM
What were you people expecting? A shut-out?

It's called war, clue into reality. What the hell is wrong with you people? They bomb the police stations and you blame Bush? Wtf?

Wait a minute, I see now, you're the mighty Democrats otherwise known as the shallow end of the gene pool.

We are in the opening battles of WWIII. For years Islamic militants have waged war on the US and we responded weakly or not at all. World trade center attack 1, USS Cole, African embassies, Saudi barracks, 9/11, the list goes on. These people want to remove the US and western civilization from this earth. Khomeini, Bin Laden, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and many others have pledged to do this and they will continue to try unless stopped. They want the world to live in a Islamic theocracy and anything short of that will be attacked.

Many seem to blame our support of Israel or our dependence on oil from the mid east. They will hate us regardless. Our freedoms and western way of life are what they hate. Hoping for peace with them will not make it so. Same with wishing, or praying.

When the rest of the world finally figures out that this plague must be removed the US and Great Britain will be forced to go it alone.

I fear many more innocents will be lost before we finally wake up....

for those who say our influence has decreased... umm... you're stupid or blind. since we went over and and stuck a gun up saddam's ass we haven't had one terrorist attack on our soil, libya disarmed - North Korea is shaking in their pants - Iran admits what they are doing - pakistan is actually hunting terrorists!

Meep:

"I still don't see how you can consider arabs part of the civilized world. You have Iraqis killing Iraqis, not only that, killing children."

War can create a lot of emotion in both the invaded country and the invading country. This emotion makes the job of the propagandist easier as painting everything in black and white becomes possible. Keep in mind however, that the US is not the centre of the universe. The US has killed Iraqi children as well, it's just instead of car bombs they drop far more expensive ones from the sky.

While I grant you that hate-mongering fundamentalist Muslims cannot be considered part of the civilized world, neither can hate-mongering fundamentalist Christians.

It's your (and many others like you) attitude that makes situations like Iraq possible. If the public was a thinking public as opposed to a feeling public the US wouldn't be in Iraq right now. The war would have been resisted and so unpopular not even dubbya would have risked getting into this. The world would have waited for the weapons inspectors to finally give up themselves or declare Iraq WMD-free, instead of the US calling the inspection process over unilaterally. But unfortunately the public is scared and easily swayed.

2004-04-21 09:44:10 AM
another interesting point about those of you who say bush has made the rest of the world mad at us and that bush is the reason for every attack anyhwere in the world - the worst attack by far was 9/11 - what did bush do as governor of texas that made them start plotting the attack in 1996?

weren't we attacked more often when bush wasn't president? how can you blame bush when the last attack was planned before he held any public office?

2004-04-21 09:32:29 AM revscat: Don't you see the slippery slope Bush has put us on? Look at the big picture, and listen to the "bipartisan" calls for "staying the course" and reinstituting the draft. Iraq is just the start. Unless we bug out now, our military will eat up virtually ALL of the federal budget for many, many years as our young men are dragooned to fight in and occupy Iraq, Arabia, Jordan, Syria, and Iran (at the minimum). Millions of Americans will spend years fighting to tame the tribes of Araby, to secure the (declining) oil fields, and to secure Israel.

Sound like a good plan?

It is your future, unless this madness can be stopped soon.

The difference between the casualties we caused and the ones they cause are very obvious... they intend to kill innocents. We do not. I agree that that are still dead and we mourn the unintetional deaths... they cheer them.

While not intending to defend fundie christians I do not recall any of them using car bombs or aircraft to innocent people.

The differences are very clear for those who wish to see them...

2004-04-21 09:51:25 AM
Once again I am appalled by our president. Do you ever notice people tend to be peaceful until white men move in? You didn't see this going on when Saddam was in power. You didn't see Native Americans bombing each other or wiping each other out until those puritans came along. Africa didn't ship slaves over seas until old whitey appeared on ships either.

GWB needs to be booted out of office so that the "Second Black President" can make things right in the world.

2004-04-21 09:52:24 AM
To me it looks like this will become the new strategy of the insurgents/terrorists/asshats:

Killing American soldiers is dangerous and costs about 10 of their guys for every US soldier.
Killing foreign civilians was a lot more effective,
but killing Iraqui civilians has to be like catching fish from a barrel compared to attacking US soldiers.
Why would you kill your own people? Simple. The goal is not to millitary defeat the US for that is simply impossible.
The goal is to make Iraq ungovernable and unstable so that elections will not be held and controll will not be handed over and the US will eventually be forced to pull their troops out and leave the country in a big fat mess.
Killing civlians serves that purpose.
Boy do I hate these guys. And the idiot that started the whole shiat.

Difar53:

Actually the article says "Among the dead were many children who had been traveling to kindergarten in a minibus that was caught in one blast."

To me, that sentence suggests that the bus was in the process of going somewhere and was unlucky to have been near one of the bombs. So, if that's the case, then it's the same as the US dropping bombs. The target was obviously the police stations and the members of the police force inside. I would assume that it's because the bombers look upon those police officers as traitors.

We are in the opening battles of WWIII.

Not if we choose otherwise.

For years Islamic militants have waged war on the US and we responded weakly or not at all. World trade center attack 1, USS Cole, African embassies, Saudi barracks, 9/11, the list goes on. These people want to remove the US and western civilization from this earth.

Or at least, from their neighborhoods. But they will never succeed, because we NEED to be in that region. And likewise, we can never succeed 100% in getting rid of the radicals...because every time you kill one, you radicalize his 2 brothers who were just keeping their heads down before.

Khomeini, Bin Laden, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and many others have pledged to do this and they will continue to try unless stopped. They want the world to live in a Islamic theocracy and anything short of that will be attacked.

Isn't global domination rhetoric silly? Don't you just want to slap some sense into them?

Many seem to blame our support of Israel or our dependence on oil from the mid east. They will hate us regardless.

Hate? Probably. Devote 100% of their time, attention and resources to waging WWIII against us? Debatable.

Our freedoms and western way of life are what they hate. Hoping for peace with them will not make it so. Same with wishing, or praying.

I'm not so sure that "they hate our way of life" is 100%accurate. More like, "they hate our perceived effort to ram our values and culture down their throats." Whether that "perceived" effort is a complete misunderstanding or not...that's irrelevant. And I'm pretty sure that "they hate freedom" is just a White House/Fox News talking point.

When the rest of the world finally figures out that this plague must be removed the US and Great Britain will be forced to go it alone.

Whenever someone says something about this or that group of people as a "plague" that must be "removed," I turn to our good friend, Mr. Godwin. Or Donald O'Connor.

I fear many more innocents will be lost before we finally wake up...

Agreed. That's why our strategy needs to be 1) get Iraq set up the way we want it, 2) get the hell out as soon as it's safe/stable/secure there, 3) slowly disengage from the Arab world over the next 15 years, 4) go back to the thing we do best: dominating the world economically...instead of trying to be the world's top ass-kicker.

I see your point... in this case. Somehow it doesnt fit when the bomber climbs aboard a bus filled with women and children. Islamic extremists will and have INTENTIONALLY killed women, children, innocent non involved people simply to create terror... I am sure that while the perps of this attack may have unintentioally killed these particular children, intentional attacks are sure to follow...

2004-04-21 10:08:12 AM
Also, Difar53,

The question of lifestyle enters the equation when talking about fundamentalists. Most of the Jihaders come from a background where they really don't have any hope of a future. A lot are from technologically backward upbringings where religion was the only thing in their life saying, "It's all going to be ok." So, if someone comes along and whips them into a frenzy and convinces them that if they die in the service of Islam, they'll be set up forever in heaven... that's a suicide attack waiting to happen.

Now the situation that Christians are in in the US is different from Iraq. For example, in the US, a christian doesn't feel occupied by foreign invaders. Also a fundie Christian probably enjoys a standard of living that is probably above the poverty level or in most cases, somewhat comfortable. However, when there are evil doers... like say for the sake of argument, doctors who perform abortions, they will be killed on an individual level. After all, buying a gun and ammo is easier and cheaper than buying a car and outfitting it to explode. Especially since there's no reason to damage the country you live in because, after all, most Christians love American.

There's other differences, but I think if you put a fundie christian in the same situation as a fundie muslim, you're going to get mass murder and bloodshed. It's inevitable.

2004-04-21 10:08:13 AM
Farkle34

This is classic guerilla warfare. The insurgents were trying to blow up police stations, sending a message to all Iraqis that if "cooperate" with the occupying Americans, you are a target. This is why they attack supply convoys driven by Iraqis, and other pieces of infrastructure operated by their conationalists. This is meant to cripple any progress the American will make in maintaining order.

"We are in the opening battles of WWIII. "

Pfft... been hearing that one since before you were born.

Seriously. Some quick flashbacks for those of you who were either not born yet, or too young to see it happening... This is not a complete list... Just some highlights for Defar53 who seems to be calling for DOOM.

I'll just pick a point in time to start -- say 1960

1. "We will Bury You!" Kruschev in the U.N. - 1960
2. some nukes off Florida and a massive blockade with just a bit of tension in the world between Kennedy and Kruschev - 1963 (with lots of people, including a 3 yr old me, sitting in bunkers kinda tension going on)
3. 7 days war - 1967
4. lots of other fun little skirmishes (1967 on through 1999 like Bosnia / Kosovo 1990 - 1999
5. Kuwait / Iraq - 1991

If I had a nickle for every jerk like you that said something was a Prelude to WWIII, I'd build a bunker and put you all in it.

Oh -- and as a personal request - less fear mongering, and more focus on the problem. Especially since we're going to be here a while.

/Me ends rant
