what was so Amusing?

Submitter: I hope you or someone you care about is killed viciously so on the anniversery of that day we can do stupid shiat like this to remind you or your remaining family of it and have a good laugh about it.

2004-04-20 04:46:10 PM
I take that back
my comment was a little harsh, I wish no such thing to ever happen to anyone or their family.

I still however believe that this wasn't funny.

2004-04-20 05:18:35 PM
I wonder why the canine unit "hit" on the truck.

pretty farked up...

2004-04-20 05:19:33 PM
Submitter: RTFA.

The U-Haul wasn't parked within a thousand miles of the OKC FBI office.

Trunks:

You are right on the money. I had a friend in the Murrah building that day (she survived).

But what annoyed me more was that the poster can't tell the difference between Oklahoma and Connecticut.

I am the submitter.

Trunks: The thing I found amusing is how stupid some people can be sometimes, not the bombing.

Teekno: screwed up my cut and pasting. Headline should have read:

"To celebrate the 9 year-anniversary of the Murrah building bombing in Oklahoma City, man parks U-haul truck in front of FBI building. Hilarity ensues"

Didn't intend to offend anyone, and I apologize if I did.

"the van was empty but concern increased when the dog signaled the presence of explosives."

Or possibly the presence of a bologna sandwich.
Dogs love bologna.

2004-04-20 05:58:51 PM
I thought it was a Ryder truck???

2004-04-20 05:59:32 PM
Headliner apologizes for his headline. This should be a short thread. :)

My dog thinks there are explosives in my pant leg.

Hits on it all the time.

2004-04-20 06:04:39 PM
If this story had actually been in Oklahoma City it would have served as new evidence for an "ASSHAT" tag...

2004-04-20 06:04:45 PM
Donald Trump: Dog, you sniffed explosives where there weren't any.

Dog: Yes, but...

Donald Trump: I hate excuses. Dog, you're fired.

2004-04-20 06:05:20 PM
All along the dogs thought they were being trained to find U-Hauls, not the explosives in them.

I'm pretty sure it was a Ryder truck.

Or was that WTC 1 with a Ryder truck?

I can't remember.

Anyhow, I would have thought it was at least mildly amusing even if it was in front of the Oklahoma FBI office. But then I'm cruel, with no soul and compassion, and a love of dark humour...

What bombing was it where the Arab guy was caught because he went back to the Rider truck rental outfit and biatched that he didn't get his deposit back?

/or am I dreaming this one??

2004-04-20 06:17:01 PM
Damn you got to feel sorry for the guy driving the truck. He probably got swarmed and grilled. All because of a supremely bad sense of timing.

Still a scary thing though.

2004-04-20 06:17:29 PM
Wow. Rocky start to this thread.

Is it just me, or are people getting more on edge and easily irritated these days? I mean both inside and outside of Fark? Is Fark, as the social microcosm it is, indicative of what's happening to world?

thanks, VinegarJones

I wasn't in the country for that one... must be why I fergot.

They should have just blown it up like other suspicious packages, to be safe. That would have been funnier.

2004-04-20 06:27:07 PM
? how stupid some people can be?

A guy parked a U-Haul truck on the corner near a government building in Connecticut on April 19. This makes him a dumbass and stupid?

God forbid he had to move some furniture out of his office or deliver a batch of newspapers or anything. I guess you'd only be happy if he rented from "Golly Gee, No, We're Not Terrorists Rentals." Or if the world stopped on April 19. And September 11. And any other day that people feel all skittery about.

Bowlingual translation of interview with dog:

I'd hit it. Now give me steak.

2004-04-20 06:28:46 PM
When I read "they combed over the vehicle", why do I get a mental picture of some farside cartoon of cops with large hairbrushes doing a number on this u-haul?

Gotta love the English idiom!

Pavlovian Police dog: smell some explosive.... get reward.

Officer: Go get em' boy!

Dog: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! mmmmmm... Treats & reward!

bobette

Yes, you're right -- it was a Ryder truck in OKC 9 years ago.

bobbette: It was both. Ryder IS the company of choice for truck-bombers, but for some reason this information hasn't made it into their promotional materials.

2004-04-20 06:43:47 PM
WOW, you're been lambasted for THIS headline!

Even worse when I submitted my "largest gorge in the galaxy located on Mars" headline!

2004-04-20 06:57:50 PM
One more bit of support for the contention that dogs hit on what their handlers think they should, not what they actually smell.

2004-04-20 06:59:15 PM
How DARE that driver rent a U-haul on the 9th anniversary of the Murrah bombing.

How insensitive to the victims and their families! That sombiatch. He should have been prostrating himself at the victims memorial, and piling all kinds of stuffed animals and "get well soon" cards and other assorted crap at the entrance to prove his empathy with the victims families.....

2004-04-20 07:06:44 PM
why not cut to the chase, and park it in front of Reno's house...

2004-04-20 07:17:09 PM
I was also wondering why the dog alerted on the truck. Mebbe there wasn't explosives in it then, but something set the dog off. Time to go over the truck with a microscope, and look into who's rented it.

Well said. I retract my comm-, Wait isn't this FARK? There's no place for humility here.

Screw you guys, that's funny.

I lived in OKC when the bombing happened. I was fortunate enough that nobody I knew died, but I had friends that worked on the cleanup, and saw what it did to them. My best friend would have been dead, had he not overslept.

And somehow, I laughed out loud at the headline (even if it was a few days and a couple thousand miles off). Imagine that. How callous of me! /sarcasm

Some of you apparently need to call it a night and leave the pity party. Lighten up.

2004-04-20 07:47:12 PM
Nobody set up them the bomb.

My mother died in the OKC bombing... Wait, she didn't, I just like to whine

2004-04-20 07:56:24 PM
yeah about a month after it happened my dad was driving a 24 ft box truck and he remebered that the tags was expired so he pulls it up in front of the court house hops out and goes to the DMV. When he got back there was two state cops walking around it scarred shiat less.

2004-04-20 08:06:19 PM
Those dogs are as inaccurate as shiat.

A dog "hit" on my truck crossing over from Mexico. 8 hours later and about $2,000 in damage to my truck, and I'm still a free man.

farkers cut open the gas tank, pulled all the tires off the rims, ..... God knows what else, I got to sit on a bench.

Pissed me off so much I would have started smuggling drugs right there if someone had asked me.

2004-04-20 08:32:21 PM
Or was that WTC 1 with a Ryder truck?

OK was a Ryder, WTC1 was a van.

Haven't read all of the thread but the first few were a bit sensitive.
The poster didn't say the truck was in OK, he said on the aniv. of the Oklahoma City bombing, just like the article said. And the amusing (actually asinine) part was that an idiot would do something so stupid as to park a moving van in front of a federal building, and that it would occur on that specific day no less.

2004-04-20 11:22:29 PM
That's not amusing, that's farking sick.
