He has hired a chef, Mirko Paderno, and sells dishes like fettucine with shrimp and clams or linguine with truffles for as little as $15.

"As little as $15"? From a food truck? The cheapest-to-make food.

Yeah it was cool story until I hit that, $15.

Then it sounded like douchewagon playing the part of food truck at exclusive parties in Malibu and Beverly Hills.

Just think...any male child heir of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi could run a "Prince of Persia" food truck.

Rent may be lower, but food costs are the same.

Well, good attitude on him! Even when your life crashes down and what's supposed to be yours is taken away, don't just die like a weakling. You have to do something about your life to be happy and successful. Show them your pride and honor.

Too bad the British can't do this. I'm not going to pay $15 for a bunch of jellied eels and pease pudding.

Well played, Subby.

As for the prince, more power to him. He was only allowed back into his country 14 years ago.
I really hope his reality show was more of a DIY show with details, otherwise sounds really boring.
Then again maybe he had a personality that carried the show.
Wouldn't know, my Italian doesn't go further than "hello", "goodbye" (same word FTW!), good morning, omelette and other really basic stuff.

True. Good point. Now the idea doesn't seem so odd. My local farmers market has $7 & $8 dishes (we have normal priced vegetables & fruit & herbs, too).

So at $15 maybe he can do OK in Beverly Hills & Malibu & Pacific Palisades & Santa Monica

The town I'm living in now, not anywhere special, a plate of bad spaghetti with watery marinara will run you $10. Handmade pasta doesn't seem outrageous at $15 to me.

Why does that make him a "douchewagon"?  The last food truck I ate from was obviously there to cater to the construction workers who were building an apartment complex.  The cost was negligible to me.  I'm probably one of the few if not the only residents of my neighborhood who stopped by and grabbed a taco.

I got two of them in fact, and they were pretty craptastic tacos.

Sometimes I hear an ice cream truck on my street.  Now that guy is going after people who actually live here,  I've never checked it out, but I'm sure I could buy ice cream and frozen popsicles a lot cheaper at a store.

Does that make the Ice Cream Man a "douchewagon" too?

If he can stay in business charging what he does and people keep buying his overpriced pasta, isn't that just the American way?

I mean, here's a guy who if history hadn't been what it was might be sitting on the throne in Rome like his ancestors did.

There must be a point where the offspring of royalty go from saying "My daddy is king of Italy!" to humbly saying they are descended from a former king who was deposed.

This guy did nothing to deserve being born a prince, but it seems like he is doomed to carry that title according to some of you.   If the Italian monarchy had survived and he were on the throne today people would hate him.  And as history turned out, people still hate him.  Why?    I'm not sure exactly.

I mean who the hell aspires to be the owner of a food truck even if it is one that overcharges for pasta?

That's nothing, the former King of Spain now works at the Pizza Pizza and occasionally drives the Zamboni for the Leafs.

There was an excerpt of a dissertation I saw years ago that argues all European royalty qualify as their own ethnic groups by almost every measure. Common language (French as a lingua franca, or English now), shared ancestry (duh), shared cultural experiences (marriages, weddings, deaths, wars, art, literature, music, etc.), rituals, even religion. They disdain exogamy, preferring to marry within the group.

This guy is from the House of Savoy, who started out as coming from Saxony. After that, there have been so many marriages and inter-breedings who's to say what they are? He wasn't even technically an Italian for decades if we're going by citizenship.

My Spanish great-great grandfather was blonde and had a red beard and blue eyes. Most Spaniards have an olive complexion and brown eyes, but some look basically Scandinavian. My dad is a first generation mestizo. His father is white Spaniard but his mother is Pueblo Indian (Ysleta Pueblo, NM). My dad has dark skin, black hair, and blue eyes. Those are very, very rare genetic traits to find in one person. The blue eyes come from the Spaniards.

His resume makes it obvious this is an amusement to him. He isn't humbling himself, really. He's hobnobbing with the LA set, playing the vendor. It's a conceit.

I am not saying hate him for it. He jas a schtick that probably works very well for himself. He is married to Clotilde Courau, who reportedly has a $3 million net worth and... I see a report of a fling with Kate Moss. He seems to own a really nice place on Lake Geneva. Or he did in 2012.

I'm not hating on him but he is a playboy doing playboy things and I think some people are thinking he is doing something else.

So if someone points stuff like this out without a disclaimer they are a hater and if they emphasize that they aren't, they are still a hater?

What is the precise amount of emphasis to indicate that there are misconceptions but that one isn't criticizing the person being discussed?

I kind of appreciate his tack. It certainly beats his father suing Italy for human rights violations in kicking the family out when the republic was established.

Northern Italians can be pretty blonde (like one of my good friends) - people were pretty mobile in the olden days and there were Celtic tribes in the north. (I don't know anything about his lineage - maybe his line married into more recessive-tastic families anyway.)

In a somewhat embarrassing role for the blueblood, the prince also appeared in an advertisements for electronic cigarettes which promised to help users get 'more sex'.

I don't know what this is about, but I'm willing to bet any research into it would show the prince was far less than embarrassed.

Didn't say HE was embarrassed about the role; maybe it was the reporter. Or publisher.

(I know there's no editor involved in media these days.)
