Quick! Get to the store and buy all the bread and milk!
2002-01-02 10:37:40 AM
And condoms - otherwise there's gonna be a redneck baby boom come september.
2002-01-02 10:38:20 AM
It's just kind of flurrying...I fear the drive home
2002-01-02 10:40:48 AM
Buffalo feels for you... really...
2002-01-02 10:42:17 AM
holy shiat!!! i can't believe one of my articles got posted.

that has made my day brighter and will make the drive home easier to deal all of us "rednecks" contend with all the other "rednecks" on the roads covered with a 1/16 of inch of snow.

:P Matty

The most dangerous thing about snow in the south is that no one knows how to drive on it. It snowed an inch last week in Kentucky, and my wife said she saw a couple dozen wrecks on the way into town
2002-01-02 10:43:30 AM
Snow in Southtown? The Heat Miser is gonna be pissed about this one...
2002-01-02 10:45:04 AM
Yup. It's snowing here in Atlanta. I hate cold weather. If I didn't work at home, I'd hate the drive home also. ;)

2002-01-02 10:45:41 AM
They have no idea and no plows or anything to deal with it.
I moved here from NY and a friend got in my car once, picked up my snowbrush and said "What's this?"

That's all I got
2002-01-02 10:45:53 AM
i am in atlanta, and can indeed confirm that we are getting a naaaasty flurry...its accumulated to almost an inch already!

call in the national guard, its utter anarchy...

2002-01-02 10:47:27 AM
I want snow.. *pout* But nooooooooo snow for me here in cruddy St. Louis.
2002-01-02 10:49:21 AM
My god, I hate Atlanta. There is about a half-inch of snow, and already everyone is going berzerk on roads. I can expect a long ride home today...
2002-01-02 10:51:57 AM
C'mon Dalai Lama - you had to know that was a joke.

The same thing happens with white-outs up in Alberta - big redneck baby boom. Hell man, I'm a redneck - god knows we don't need anymore like me running around.
2002-01-02 10:53:08 AM
It's no wonder Georgians panic when it snows. I've lived here north of Atlanta for the last 38 years, and I will tell you the news media really freaks out when a chance for snow occurs. Snow is reported by the local Atlanta news like the coming apocolypse.

I like comment Jeff Foxworthy's made Monday morning on the radio: "Hurry to the grocery store and buy extra milk, bread, and toilet paper because we may be snowed in for a few hours..."
2002-01-02 10:53:13 AM
Okay, so why exactly is this a News Flash? It's Georgia not Florida....
2002-01-02 10:55:33 AM
On the other hand, the best time to go grocery shopping is the day after a snow hits. Everyone was there already the day before

I admit I'd never seen a snow brush either until I was 20
2002-01-02 10:55:59 AM
This is farked up. i just saw on cnn how some spots in the south may be getting up to 9 inches. i live in the northern chocago 'burbs and we havent even gotten an inch of snow yet WTF?
2002-01-02 10:57:07 AM
Beats north Louisiana. I went to my mom's for Christmas about 3 years ago and we got nailed by an ice storm. No power, heat, or running water for 4 days.

God bless Mr Heater!

yea, Matty i know you were was I.

Kbot_63 you know, simply saying "i hate Atlanta" is punishible by death.

by the way El Cerdo Loco, we got hooked up with salt trucks a few years ago...they have a great turn around time. i'm guessing that by tomorrow morning all the bridges and problem areas will be thoroughly salted.
2002-01-02 10:59:41 AM
yep, it's snowing in central ga....kinda reminds me of the start of the snow we had back in 73....yep, we're due...gota go get some milk, bread, condoms (and beer for the ol' lady).
2002-01-02 11:01:09 AM
Drew, it was just strange for me having seen them since birth.

Dalai, I stand corrected. It's still scary though.
2002-01-02 11:03:31 AM
so, it IS a cold day in hell?
2002-01-02 11:05:52 AM
oh,'s scary all right. The drive home is gonna suck...i know how to's the other people you gotta worry about...idiots.
2002-01-02 11:06:14 AM
Drew: If you mean Lexington, it surely doesn't take a little snow to make people drive like idiots here. Snow just means that the woman talking on her cell phone in her SUV won't be able to swerve into the empty turning lane to run the red light she didn't notice. Instead she will plow into the poor scmuck in his pinto in front of her. Now if it only kills her we will not only have one more dumbass off the road, but also one more pinto. (Lets just hope the poor scmuck survived so he can use the sweet insurance money to buy that camaro he's always wanted).
2002-01-02 11:07:28 AM
What's a snow brush?

It's like 10 degrees here in Fayetteville, AR...but no snow.
2002-01-02 11:11:06 AM
Still Snowing.

I am looking out the window and thinking - this is gonna suck....wait a minute, I am at home. Who cares!

*runs in circles*
2002-01-02 11:12:37 AM
When it snows here, then I'll worry.
2002-01-02 11:14:24 AM
I was driving from OH to Florida for X-mas about six or seven years ago, and it was snowing in Georgia. It was funny because the cops were trying to close the highways and everyone from the north (and those crazy Canadians) would get off on the off ramp and just get back on the on ramp. Repeat till there were too many wrecks to continue.

my advice- steer into the skid. pump brakes gently. good luck.
2002-01-02 11:14:50 AM
Hey Drew, I know exactly what you're saying. A couple of years ago I commuted through Lexington every week, and I came through on the day that you got dumped on with 10 inches of wet snow (where we lived farther east, we got 20"). I nearly got stuck in Lexington because the snow just sat on the streets and was mushed into a thick layer of slush and ruts. That was insane. Me, I was driving my VW Jetta with bad tires but my snow driving experience got me thru that and 60 miles up the highway.

My wife was in San Antonio in 1988 when they got 10 inches of snow one night, and she regaled me with stories of 4WD idiots with bald tires skating through intersections causing hundreds of accidents.
2002-01-02 11:17:44 AM
Now I know why there was nothing at the store last night....
2002-01-02 11:20:00 AM
Yep, snowing here in Atlanta. Hopefully schools will be closed tommorow!
2002-01-02 11:23:09 AM
Haha, it snowed here in Baton Rouge last night. It was the most snow I had ever seen (first time I had enough to make a snowball). We managed to scrape enough snow off of our cars to build a 1' tall snowman. Not too bad for my first :). Ooohh.. and I even got to write my name in the snow. FUN!!
2002-01-02 11:26:20 AM
Watching the tide roll in will bring a whole new poigniancy to it now.
2002-01-02 11:28:27 AM
It's still snowing here in ATL right now. They're talking about sending us home early. In December, 2000, the office closed once due to snow, and I drove around getting things done--mailing Christmas presents, going to the hardware store, but you can't find bags of rock salt here. You can only buy rock salt in the cereal-box size boxes. What good are they?
2002-01-02 11:37:54 AM
This is a weird snow -- even setting aside the fact that it's in Georgia. On the rare occasions we get snow, it always hits the mountains in the northeast part of the state first. Now it's sneaking in across the Alabama line over West Point Lake. Columbus is getting snow, and not one flake in the mountains. Weird, I tells ya.

Now I'm sitting here in Coweta County watching the snow stick on the grass and melt on the roads. You know what that means: ice and slush in the morning! Woohoo! Wrecks-a-plenty.

Hmm, Wrecks-a-plenty. Could that be the next whack-a-mole?
2002-01-02 11:39:46 AM
I was a supervisor at Honey Baked Ham Christmas 2000, and the parking lot on the side of our building froze over. We went to four stores looking for rock salt but found none. As opposed to getting kitty litter or something, we took turns laughing at the falling idiots....
2002-01-02 11:39:58 AM
Snowing in Athens too. Snow is super.
2002-01-02 11:42:57 AM
Anyone remember a year or two ago after the ice storm and they shut down every living thing when it was supposed to happen again and it didn't do so much as rain?
2002-01-02 11:44:27 AM
yeah, even my hair place called and said they were cancelling all appointments. No food to be found...
2002-01-02 11:45:03 AM
There is snow on the ground here in Baton Rouge, La too. Our dumbass secretary called in saying she was too scared to drive. Late excuse #2367.

Griff that was great. I didn't have power at work but we had heat and cable at my house. Woohoo!
2002-01-02 11:48:09 AM
I had to resort to buying a bag of Kitty Litter when I got caught down here in North Carolina 2 years ago for their nasty blizzard. Stupid mofo that I am, I still drove home to PA, packed a 21 foot Uhaul, and came back with it to stay.

I came from central and Northeastern PA, where once at my parent's place for the holidays, we got should deep snow overnight and it took us 3 days to dig to the top fo their 1/4 mile driveway with a tractor, a truck, and 3 men digging. After that it was only 3 more days before the state trucks made it down to our driveway from the main road and we could actually get out...

Last winter here in NC towards spring we got a snow sprinkle. I swear, a little bit of it was sticking on some leaves in the yard, and tree branches and stuff, but NONE stuck on the roads, since it had been to warm before... my wife went to pick up a movie and came right back, there were 4 people wrecked on the WET roads (absolutely no ice at all) because they were panicing and racing the store to buy all the supplies.

people in the south are so stupid around snow.... It's like giving them a full frontal labotomy to put a half inch of the stuff in front of them.

4 wheel drive does NOT mean 4 wheel stop or 4 wheel steer.
2002-01-02 11:51:45 AM
Georgians' reaction to snow is even more funny when you're from a place that considers snow normal (ie- Utah). God bless the south... we're going to need it driving home.
2002-01-02 11:51:55 AM
I knew I should have put the chains on my tires this morning
2002-01-02 11:53:40 AM
Meanwhile, in N FL, its business as usual- more farking cold rain.
2002-01-02 12:21:30 PM
yep, ain't snowing much anymore here in central ga....but my belly is full and my drunk ol' lady ain't horney no mo.
wait!!! i see more flakes....gotta go back to the grocery store for milk, bread, condoms and beer.....hope i don't skid into somebody from up north....
2002-01-02 12:23:52 PM

It's one of the rare pleasures of we Canadians, most of whom have dealt with snow every year of their lives (west coasters somewhat excepted) to laugh at the behavior of those in the southern US when it snows.

Though those experiencing nice sunny warm winters in Arizona probably think it's pretty strange that anyone can live with -40 degree temps.
2002-01-02 12:24:55 PM
Bwahahahahahahahha. I grew up in Atlanta and watching people at the grocery store during these flurries is funny. If there is a threat of snow the stores are packed and people are going apeshiat.

I am in Pittsburgh now and it has flurried everyday for the last week. If this happened in the ATL the entire city would shut down.
2002-01-02 12:28:53 PM
For the love of God - it's just white rain! Lucky me gets to drive home tonight from the north perimeter of Atlanta to Lawrenceville. 285 and 85 out to be a cluster f#@!#

Good thing my New Year's resolution was to give up bread and milk. Can't find a stick of damn fire wood if your life depended on it. You would think were were in North Dakota!!!
