Brilliant!

2004-04-16 07:41:54 AM
Thank heavens it's only a Guinness brewery in England and not the Guinness brewery, the Sisteen Chapel of beer, at St. James Gate in Dublin.

2004-04-16 07:45:48 AM
I'm crying into my Guinness bar towel.

2004-04-16 08:14:10 AM
It may have been my imagination, but the Guinness in Dublin tasted better to me that the stuff we get here anyway, so I have absolutely no problem with this whatsoever.

It's like England's stopping the sale of sparkling white wine and replacing it with Champagne!

jay-vee

it wasn't your imagination.

I've never been to Ireland, but I've been to Europe a few times and the Guinness there is definately better tasting.

2004-04-16 08:45:20 AM
The reason the Guinness tastes better in Ireland is because it's fresher. The closer you are to the source, the better the beer. That, and only that, is the reason.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

*wailing, gnashing of teeth, rending of garments*

2004-04-16 09:27:39 AM
RagingLeonard you do realize, of course, that Guinness is brewed in 51 countries around the world? Considering people drink over 10 million pints of Guinness each day, St. James Gate would never be able to handle it all on its own and ship it around the world.

Among Guinness afficionados, the African stuff ranks very high, particularly that brewed in South Africa. I think it's the higher alcohol content that wins people over.

Guinness does taste better in Ireland as does pizza tastes better in Italy. Things are better when they are closer to the original source.
At least, that is what I think.

2004-04-16 10:55:21 AM
I want my farking towel.

2004-04-16 11:13:28 AM
I know Beatle909 already said it, but they say it more than once in the commercial.

Brilliant!

2004-04-16 11:13:38 AM
It's true, then. Evil does triumph at times.

2004-04-16 11:14:20 AM
Man, things for that beer haven't been the same since company founder Alec Guinness died.

2004-04-16 11:14:37 AM
And I echo

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

2004-04-16 11:14:39 AM
fists clinched in the air

KAAAAAHHN!!!!!

2004-04-16 11:15:18 AM

Anheiser Busch to the rescue!

2004-04-16 11:16:13 AM
Sorry but I'll have to say that this is happy news. The fewer breweries pumping out that swill the better.

2004-04-16 11:16:56 AM
Did a Guinness cooking experiment yesterday. Most WI people will tell you that boiling your brats in beer before you grill them (it was 73 and sunny here yesterday I had to grill) is the way to go. I had two bottles of G in the fridge. I used one to boil my brats...The other, I enjoyed on my deck.

Best freaking brats ever.

2004-04-16 11:16:57 AM
I was very scared there for a sec while the link loaded...

2004-04-16 11:17:33 AM
Only appropriate for me to cry on this one.

2004-04-16 11:17:37 AM
Guinness brewed in Britain and not Ireland? That's a sacrelige unto itself.

2004-04-16 11:17:42 AM
70 years!? That must be a record!

/weak

2004-04-16 11:17:48 AM
I never got the damn towel. But, they did put me on a mailing list and sent some rebate coupon in the mail. If I bought a 6 pack and mailed them the receipt I was going to get a buck back. Woo Hoo.

2004-04-16 11:18:01 AM
Real men drink whiskey.

2004-04-16 11:18:52 AM
I like Beamish better. That is, when I'm not drinking my own.

Oh crap, I'm down to my last one!

2004-04-16 11:19:02 AM
I have to agree with SKININK. When Dark Helmet killed Obi Wan Kenobi, all hope for Guiness was gone.

2004-04-16 11:19:28 AM
All i have to say is damn you headline write... scared the shiat out of me while i was waiting for the article to load

2004-04-16 11:19:48 AM
They were reaching for the defibrillator there for a moment. Kinda went pale. Good thing the original is still open.

/Guinness! It's what's for dinner!

2004-04-16 11:20:04 AM
Another example of something tasting better closer to the source is Philly Cheese Steaks.

2004-04-16 11:20:08 AM
mactobain mee too!!!!
and i was at the "real" brewery in dublin just yesterday...

in Nigeria they have a particularly potent form of Guiness that is something like 7% alcohol. the Guiness in Italy is stronger too. i'll be worried if Diago starts to close down breweries in those two countries. but the limey bastards can stick to their Bass for all i care.

2004-04-16 11:20:22 AM

RIP

British Guinness

2004-04-16 11:21:43 AM
For a second there, I thought it was going to say that the one in Ireland had closed down. Sheesh.

Sorry but I'll have to say that this is happy news. The fewer breweries pumping out that swill the better.

I second that!

When my grandmother was a little skinny girl in Wales, the town medic prescribed her a pint of Guiness a day so she would put on weight.

/Guiness is GOOD for you!

2004-04-16 11:22:06 AM
How is this "Sad"? The limeys had no business brewing it, and now that the brewery is closing, means more work and money for the Irish. It's win-win.

2004-04-16 11:23:56 AM
It's a blessing they close the UK brewery. All the goodness will be brewed to the fine Dublin standard.
Maybe now I'll drink it here in the UK as I'd only drink it in Ireland. Guinness brewed by Brits..sacrilege

2004-04-16 11:24:09 AM
Guinness: Irish for "soup".

I hope you put some butter and onions in with the beer n brats! Hmmmmmm....... guinness and brats.....

2004-04-16 11:25:16 AM
Guiness definitely does taste better in Dublin, its like nectar. I think its the water, London water is not the best (I live about 3 miles from the London plant)

2004-04-16 11:25:42 AM
Guiness: English for motor oil.

2004-04-16 11:25:58 AM
Dredog...

You're damn skippy!

2004-04-16 11:26:12 AM
OUTSOURCING!

2004-04-16 11:27:07 AM
Why the hell did they ever start brewing Guiness in England in the first place? It's not like they have to ship it half way around the world from Ireland. And no offense, but while the Brits are certainly good at brewing tea, my experience has been that they need to leave the brewing of beer to others who are better at it.

If that last part does offend you, bite me limey :)

2004-04-16 11:27:10 AM
what a terribly misleading headline

2004-04-16 11:27:29 AM
Hey, I never got my towel either. I 'did' however get my Guiness bottle opener that screws onto the side of a bar from their last promotion. But I do wonder where that towel got off to. I've had wet hands for months now.

OH man, now i'm craving a double brat with da wurks!
