Joanne Cowan of Boulder stands outside her garage door, where she documents American military deaths in Iraq as a protest against the war.

A little excessive? too much time on her hands?

2004-04-10 09:36:39 PM
Gee, I wish he'd stop doing that.

2004-04-10 09:38:22 PM
Stupid, meaningless, liberal act designed to make them feel better about themselvs.

2004-04-10 09:38:37 PM
Her first message was, "As we act, let us not become the evil we deplore." The words came from California Democrat Barbara Lee, who cast the lone vote against giving President Bush authority to retaliate against the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

If she wants to protest Iraq, Ok. Some people (not Kerry of course) were against Iraq. But to protest Afghanastan just paints her as a looney leftist loner. Oh well, the beauty of America is that even America-haters have the right to protest.

Remember the guy who got sued by his neighborhood association for putting a flagpole up in his yard?

Something tells me these people won't have that problem.

Imagine how much the Gap would pay to rent your garage door.
Has anyone here ever known someone that has one of those cars with ads all over it--how much that pay?

2004-04-10 09:39:10 PM
wow, appearently there is nothing to do in boulder

2004-04-10 09:39:11 PM
I hope she doesn't have to start writing on her house because her garage door got full.

/... honestly

Articles like this without pictures are useless. I mean maybe the garage doors have some artistic value. I picture great big murals of flowers, peace symbols and people "in the throws of passion".... but instead- nuthin.

2004-04-10 09:39:59 PM
I'm genuinely surprised the neo-cons haven't burnt their houses down yet.

2004-04-10 09:42:27 PM
So in total she's up to.. what, the weekly death count of most wars?

2004-04-10 09:42:53 PM
Upon further review I see there indeed was a picture. Lame. Once again expectations far out way reality.

2004-04-10 09:44:25 PM
Good for her.

I wonder if I could do the same with my windmill...

2004-04-10 09:45:20 PM
I like how people try to say our losses in Iraq are acceptable.

...Actually, no. I don't.

I know one guy that got $500 month in NYC from a national company to 'wrap' his car.

Guess it's a good source of beer/hooker money if you don't mind having Compound W wart remover plastered on your VW Jetta.

I love how every time somebody protests the war it's a "Stupid, meaningless, liberal act designed to make them feel better about themselvs" (sic), but whenever there's a pro-war march/drive/whatever it's patriotic.

I'm pro-america. I'm pro-American-soldiers-not-dying-needlessly, too. Makes me feel good about myself? Sure does.

And at least it's their garage doors instead of Big Ben or the sides of American naval vessels, y'know?

2004-04-10 09:47:39 PM
Two people. Obviously, this is a massive trend.

2004-04-10 09:49:39 PM
If anyone could see my garage door ( they can't, it faces the side, not the front.) I'd spray paint mine to say,
"Vote for Voldemort."

I should paint my garage door as a protest sign against my car hitting it

Sounds like someone was exercising their right to free speech, and their neighbors respected that right, even though some of them disagreed.

Very unusual these days. Unusual enough to merit a 'hero' tag, maybe.

Aren't these the kind of values the country is supposed to be based on?

oh wait... that was the Ataris...I have my shiatty covers of good songs bands mixed up.

Gecko Gingrich: That's The Ataris, not AFI.

Seriously. Okay. So a couple nutjobs write on their garage doors. This changes...what? I thought the point of protesting was to effect change. This is a meaningless gesture. Change requires ACTION.

Take that for what you will.

2004-04-10 10:04:25 PM
The craptastic "Boys of Summer" redo was The Ataris, not AFI. Although I did like the "In This Diary" song, do NOT cover Don Henley, people. Back AWAY from your The End of the Innocence album, post haste.

Later.

It'd be nice if these asswipes were consitant. You just know if a Dem was in office these people wpuld be silent.

A bunch of smelly hippies in Taos? Great, more stinky people to come up and ask for my change.

I use mine to show movies in the summer time. And to keep my lawn and garden equipment from wandering off...

You make it too easy. Do I have to connect the dots?

2004-04-10 10:07:43 PM

We do have the freedom to express ourselves in this country. That is what seperates us from Iraq and countries of its ilk.

We also have a lot of nuts in this country. That makes us similar to Iraq and countries of its ilk. At least they ruin their own stuff and don't kill people.

Welcome to the US, feel free to be an idiot.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

I didn't support the invasion of Iraq, but not doing shiat against Al Qaida after the US embassy bombings in Africa and the USS Cole did us a fat farking lot of good on September 11th.

"Stupid, meaningless, liberal act designed to make them feel better about themselvs."

Well, say what you will about liberals, but at least she has the courage of her convictions.

She does not support the war and will not join the armed forces.

Meanwhile, all your wonderful neocons are very quick to rail on the "ragheads," kick up your feet and knock back a cold one. I do not, however, see you being quick to grab an AK-47 and head into the desert.

p.s. I'm aware we have some soldiers and ex-soldiers here and to them this doesn't apply.

p.p.s. I will now excuse myself, much like an arsonist does before the fire begins to burn out of control.

What's that smell ? aaah, popcorn. Fark the unsalted ones, I want the real deal here.

Seriously, so two people do this ? does it make a difference ? If anyone was keeping track of dead Iraqis' I'd be just as unmoved.

/one of the few neutrals about "this war"

nah, i wouldn't worry about it getting out of control. your worn out rhetoric is too lame for anyone to get upset over it. mmmkay?

Super Bee

Yeah, if a democrat was in office they'd be silent because we wouldn't have US soldiers dying in Iraq for WMDs that were simply not there.

2004-04-10 10:15:43 PM
The best way to protest the war is to frog-walk the Unelected Goddamn Fraud, and the rest of the Neocon filth, OUT of the White House and into a prison cell.

The August 6, 2001 PDB proves that Bush knew...and then CHOSE to let 9/11 happen on purpose.

I'd say that's a little more impeachable than a blowjob.
