Dancin, you wouldn't WANT to come to WI just for the dovehunting...... I don't rightly know who WOULD..... Unless you already live here and are extremely bored..... So does that mean I can shoot the flag??? Not that I.... would.... or ............ nevermind....

/going back under my bridge now....

Used to hunt dove in Idaho. My only complaint is it takes so many to make a mouth full.

Reminds me of NationStates.

"The national animal is the (add animal), which is also the nation's favorite main course."

The "bird of peace" gets hunted... where's the tag?

2004-04-07 01:57:22 PM
Why is this spiffy?

2004-04-07 01:58:22 PM
Hey guys, there's a couple of mourning doves nesting in my parking garage in my complex. Should be easy to shoot since they can't fly too high.

At least they'll stop crapping on the cars.

2004-04-07 01:58:40 PM
The mourning dove, known for its soft cooing call, is a common visitor at backyard feeders.

Something tells me backyard hide-and-seek is going to take on a whole new aspect.

2004-04-07 01:59:35 PM

Do you want fries with that?

2004-04-07 01:59:49 PM
I wonder if Wisconsin will ever manage to get it's head out of it's ass...

Naw, probably not.

We are owning FARK lately....screw you Florida!

/On Wisconsin!

The "bird of peace" gets hunted... where's the IRONIC tag?

There was an "ironic" tag... when I submitted the same story yesterday.

Y'all are creeping me out, as my last name in real life is Dove..

/can't imagine ever eating one for dinner...

2004-04-07 02:01:34 PM
Mourning dove? I would have guessed the cheddar frisbee.

CUE THE SLIDEWHISTLES!

2004-04-07 02:02:47 PM
of course, the smart-assed side of me thinks it would go well with some fava beans and a nice chianti..

Dove hunting in Texas is a birth right. For the past couple of years I've driving out to Coleman for opening day. Good Times. Cold Shiner bacon wrapped dove with jalepeno mmmmm.

D_I_A,
Anson is a little out of the way for me. Besides, I want some Whitewing.

2004-04-07 02:04:18 PM
Burgundy with fowl? Are we animals?

/light riesling or a cliche chardonnay would be good though.

2004-04-07 02:04:37 PM
This is what it sounds like when doves fry.

2004-04-07 02:05:02 PM
or how about a nice, crisp pinot grigio

2004-04-07 02:06:14 PM
What's the difference between a dove and a pigeon?

2004-04-07 02:06:14 PM

I'D EAT IT!

/makes no apologies

2004-04-07 02:07:20 PM
Dove hunting never impressed me. You have to kill so many to make a meal. There is some challenge in shooting them at first. Their flight is erratic but if you watch them a bit-it becames quite predictable. Kind of like fish in a barrel.

I do have a lovely recipe for Robin Pie...it came out of an old Italian cookbook.

2004-04-07 02:07:22 PM
justafarkingchef: It's a dark meat, not as gamey as duck, so a light white wouldn't be quite the match. I'd probably more agree with bubbles_nw2003 but I figured "If in doubt, Beaujolais."

Never ate Dove. Is it like a game hen?

i think that this is more frightening.... i thought it was a photoshop....

No...More like pigeon.

Some men hunt for sport, others hunt for food. The only thing I'm hunting for is an outfit that looks good...

2004-04-07 02:18:10 PM
The dove may be the bird of peace, but the bird of true love is the swallow.

2004-04-07 02:18:48 PM
What wine goes well with badger?

2004-04-07 02:19:16 PM
excellent brap

PEOPLE ACTUALLY EAT PIGEONS?!

/needing barf bag about now.

"Awww, c'mon, badger! Why'd you have to chew my arm off? What'll I do nowww?"

2004-04-07 02:21:12 PM
but you can't have sex with it in Minnesota

2004-04-07 02:21:26 PM
What does it take for Wisconsin to get its own tag? Also I understand Cranberries go very well with Doves.

2004-04-07 02:21:54 PM
I thought it tasted like spotted owl.

2004-04-07 02:21:57 PM
Bird of peace. I'd like to get a piece of this bird:

From what I've heard you, my friend, should never, ever go to China.

Quail are much better to eat. Dove breasts are dark meat, unlike quail, which is succulent moist and white.

/I'm not hungry at all.

2004-04-07 02:24:52 PM
that there even IS a Wisconsin Citizens Concerned for Cranes and Doves deserves a "sad" tag.

2004-04-07 02:25:06 PM
PEOPLE ACTUALLY EAT PIGEONS?!

I wonder if it's just people who don't live in cities. If you've ever had to watch a deformed, mangy pigeon hobble around picking at garbage, you wouldn't eat it no matter what they called it. It'd be like eating a rat.

2004-04-07 02:25:51 PM
I agree, Cyric. Quail is delicious.

/going to lunch
