Hey, I'm not shrinking. The tectonic movements of the North American/Pacific plates just make it look that way...

The poor are bringing us down!

Actually, it's because were growing out instead of up.

Farking Dutch. It's just the wooden shoes that make them look taller.

2004-04-04 11:56:34 PM
Interesting.

I most definately did notice how tall the Dutch are and just how dimunitive the average Czech hottie was as well.

This article is a misleading spin on something that's true, fairly typical from the Guardian. American children are on average taller than their parents, so Americans are growing too. But with the influx of Asian and Hispanic immigrants our average height among entire the population is shrinking.

The Dutch health service, with its magnificent support services for pregnant woman...and its high-protein diets based on dairy food

But notmilk.com told me milk is bad for you! Is the article suggesting that raving vegan lunatics are wrong?

I live in Europe, I have European "universal healthcare," and it is GARBAGE. Absolute rubbish. Healthcare in the US is cheaper, better, and the access is easier BUT the state does not make sure everybody has it. The 80% of Americans with healthcare are much better off than the 100% of Europeans with it.

Meanwhile, US waistlines are growing.

Yeah, a diet of tacos, burritos and chimichangas is making us shorter, on average...

2004-04-05 03:33:52 AM
Bah...Europeans are catching up to Americans in terms of obescity anyway. We're just leading the way.

/it's too farking late

2004-04-05 03:34:06 AM

Yep, still there...

Once upon a time, a woman sucking her own breast was erotic...then, this...well, I didn't really need to have sex for the rest of my life anyways...

Bad science imho.

The people coming into the USA now are from countries that have basically shorter people even when they are raised with proper nourishment. Yes the article deals with that idea somewhat but fails to deal with it adequately because the poor and malnourished people entering the country way back when were still mostly european and had greater heights encoded in their genes. Add proper nutrition (and large doses of growth hormone treated meat) and they grew pretty damn tall.

I don't believe you, or you dont' know what you are talking about in regards to ameriaca. I actually live here and the general consenus is our healthcare is pretty farking shiat unless you are rich.

Hmmm, not really. I remember reading an article about the same study, and they explained that, on purpose, they studied lony white caucasian American, so as, in essence, to exclude from the figures the data due to immigration.

Oops, and now, sorry, I can't find the source for that, but it was an article in French, I seem to remember.

actually, if you stare at the second one from the left for like five minutes, the one on the far right seems pretty hot.

I spent 26 years of my life in the US, now I reside in Germany, so I know what I'm talking about. Trust me on this one, US Health Care is vastly superior to European (German is suppose dto be one of the best in Europe - Brit NHS is shiate and should be investigated by the UN).

80% of Americans have healthcare and pay very little for it (I used to pay $30 a week). In Germany, the employee's contribution to their Krankenversicherung (health insurance) is typically 250 Euros a month. With that you still have a 500 Euro deductible and a big copay.

The only advantage to universal healthcare is that it does take care of every person. For the vast majority of the US population they're better off with private US insurance. The US just needs to take care of the 20% uninsured.

In short, the next time a European goes off about universal healthcare tell them they're full of it.

/sore spot
