That poor guy.  I guess he was delicate like snow.

He now works at Arby's.

Who?

2015-12-10 10:06:41 AM
I really liked his music so much when he first hit, and had no idea WTH happened to him.  This interview was quite a reading experience.

Someone signed their name across his heart, so he went into cardiac arrest?

He fell into a wishing well, last I heard.

I don't like his name. How the hell are you supposed to say it?

browneye: Who?

He was supposed to be 'The Next Big Thing' in pop music and it never happened.

little big man: I heard somewhere that he joined the navy....

Ok. Now I know how to say his name.

He should drop the damn apostrophe from it.

From the Wiki: He expressed a high opinion of his debut album, brashly claiming that it was the most important album since the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper.

Ah, the Kanye of the 80s. Hopefully the new Kanye will follow Terence into the Where Are They Now file.

factoryconnection: I really liked his music so much when he first hit, and had no idea WTH happened to him.  This interview was quite a reading experience.

Also this: he had all the appearances of being able to pull off being The Next Big Thing at a pretty high level.

i'd say that's one of the top 10 R&B/pop songs of the 90s.  surprised you never really hear it played on the radio but you hear godamned 'everybody Wang Chung tonight!' twice a day.

First album pretty awesome, second was released about 2 years after it should have been.  it was pretty good but not great (despite having that song on it) and.....then he disappeared.  would l ike to hear him make new music.

2015-12-10 11:18:09 AM
I just remember laughing at both his name and the title of his album.  In my defense, I was maybe 11 years old at the time.

He had a damn goid voice, and the '87 album still holds up alright for a load of soulful dance pop.

I always wanted to know who actually sang the Milli Vanilli songs. Shouldn't someone get credit for those songs.

He also had the unfortunate luck of being a solo soul/pop singer in the era of Prince and Michael Jackson.

He sounds like an acid casualty. He was, at one time, the hottest new artist in the music biz. Really good, too.
It's a tough racket.

Apparently he has been -- a lot of it -- under his new name, released on his own indie label.

Personally I think too many people got him mixed up with Milli Vanilli due to the dredlocks.

Kanye's got, what six not only hit albums but is pretty much the most consistently critically-acclaimed artist since the Beatles?  Yeah, he's not going anywhere.

Kanye's been around a lot longer and sells a ton of albums.  He's a legitimate artistic force, whether you like his music or not.

Terrence Trent D'Arby was a musician with an overinflated ego who didn't listen to anybody and had one great album.  He has not and will not be relevant to the artistic world again.

Kanye is the male equivalent of Florence Foster Jenkins.

This!  That was some good stuff.  Always pictures the real singer as being so hideously ugly or repellant that they could never show them.
