(Asahi Shimbun)   Retired engineer and Edison worshiper wants someone to take his massive collection of antique audio equipment. "If I sell items by auctioning them off, individual items may sell. But that will only make a story that started with Edison fall apart"   ( ajw.asahi.com) divider line

He does have a few really cool pieces that I wouldn't mind owning.
I hope a museum takes him up on it.

Actually... I'll have to forward this link to someone here at Rutgers. He's very invested in Edison things, and has a lot of museum and archive contacts.

I love old radio and audio gear.  I've got an Atwater-Kent receiver from 1929, and a good bit of equipment from the 1950s.  The Atwater needs a power transformer, which I've not had time to scrounge yet, but most of the 50s-era gear is still in daily use.
Unfortunately, I don't have any money to give this fellow for his collection.

How do you know it's Tesla? It could also be Ghost Joseph Swan (light bulb inventor) or Ghost Georges Méliès (victim of movie piracy).

It could be any one of dozens of people that worked for him while he claimed full credit for their advancements.

It could be the spirit of anyone who has died in the electric chair, or the collective spirits of the animals he electrocuted to show how dangerous alternating current was.

If he really wanted to do the right thing, he could donate them to Wardenclyffe and let them do as they please.....

Use them as raw materials in the Tesla Museum

You do realize that's largely how it works today for everything, right?  Sure, on a patent you get to be listed as the inventor, but the company you work for gets listed as the assignee.  And when it comes to press releases, it's always "Company invents suchandsuch".

Or are you saying he listed himself as the inventor on all of the patent applications for whether he had anything to do with them or not?

Edison (the man) is largely credited with creating tons of stuff he had nothing to do with (creatively).  While he had more technical chops than Jobs (Edison had some whereas Jobs had none), he was basically a thief.

Fark that guy.

I'd take it, if only to fuel a bonfire with which to burn an effigy of Edison in front of the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe.

Hmmnn... I have a space in my existing collection for more vintage audio equipment, and most of those pieces would help to bolster displays I currently have (though it'd need to be tagged to acknowledge their own individual history).

Gentleman's name and contact info is in the article...

Sure thing dude!

/now to convince the wife...
//who am I kidding, if I ask she'll just say "no"
//better to ask for forgiveness instead :)
