So I'm guessing this story is a year old?

Funny line:
In jail awaiting sentencing he met a man who knew how to rob banks --successfully. This part, he insisted, is true.

Begs the question of why he was in there too.... :)

Hehe, that guy rules.. just not at robbing banks.
I grew up in that area and let me tell you, if people there were smart enough to fool the dumb local cops, there would be a lot of unsolved crimes. Hell, it's the best place to dump a body since they rarely find the perp.

He's reached 92 and is serving a 12-year sentence, the equivalent of life for someone his age.

It would be funny if he survived until 104, got out and put his good health down to robbing banks.

Yeah that's the way I see my life ending too. One last rebellious act, sending me to prison for the rest of my years, where I die of a heart attack from butt sex. Oh wait, no I don't! What the hell was this guy thinking?

2004-03-29 03:18:50 AM
I can only hope that when I am that old my stones are still as hard as that man's are.

2004-03-29 03:19:28 AM
i'd hit it

Robbing 91 year old banks? He needs to branch out.

2004-03-29 03:27:14 AM
Damn... does this guy remind anyone else of Cotton from King of the Hill??!?

2004-03-29 03:28:02 AM
aww so cute...

bless that cagey ol' codger

Cute story. I figure I'll get a motorcycle when I am 85 or so. A fast one. With lots of plastic and stickers. I figure my spine will be properly shaped by then.

If anyone's interested, GQ did a much larger story on this guy for their February 2004 issue. It's a great read and is what CNN based its story on. Oh, and Tandkilla: he didn't get sent to PMITA prison. He went to a prison for older inmates where--I'm assuming--the PMITA part is a little less frequent.

Although Rountree is appealing his sentence, he says he's not sure he wants to get out.

"What would I do at my age? Rob another bank?" he says, laughing.

Bahaha, great sense of humor for someone so old. Cool guy.

2004-03-29 03:55:27 AM
sounds like he was hoping for suicide by cop or bank guard...

2004-03-29 04:06:37 AM
This is the coolest thing I've ever seen. That guy is a supermegapimp, and I hope he escapes from prison at 93.

2004-03-29 04:16:19 AM

So cool!

sweet.

someone bust that guy out so i can buy him a beer. :)

2004-03-29 05:03:50 AM
Damn! I just hope I can go to the bathroom by myself at 91.

2004-03-29 05:20:25 AM
This guy is my hero.. When I get older it would be awesome to rob people of millions, steal away to third world countries, and invigorate local communities while living like a fat rat, returning every few years to do it again. I don't know if I'd go to heaven or hell, but I'd feel I deserved it wherever I wound up.

2004-03-29 05:25:59 AM
God bless him, he knows he's going. What other rush can a 90 yo man get. I wish I could buy him a beer.

Man in jail for life after unsuccessfuly robbing three banks = Dumbass

91 year-old-man in jail for life after unsuccessfuly robbing three banks = Hero

I'd still agree with a Hero tag, I'm just amused.

--Two customers chased Rountree as he headed across the parking lot to his idling truck. One knocked him down with what felt like a karate kick. "I went out. I went away from this world," Rountree said.--

HAHA. Someone went kung fu on him.

2004-03-29 07:04:18 AM
He must have seen the movie "Going in style"

2004-03-29 07:38:18 AM

2004-03-29 08:00:47 AM
Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now
I feel good, I knew that I would, now
So good, so good, I got you

Why do I see this old codger singing this James Brown song while driving away from the bank?

He's an extreme idiot. Extreme idiot's in America generally make bank. Witness the parents of the drain pipe baby (Jessica), John and Lorena, Tonya Trailertrash, Buttafuco, ad nauseum. I guess ole peckerwood here just got a little confused.

I know if I ever grow old and become unable to pay for housing and health insurance I'l just commit a crime and let the state pay for everything.!!! Muwahhaahaa

2004-03-29 12:03:54 PM
the weird thing is, if this guy was 20 years old, you would probably be screaming for his head on a platter...

2004-03-29 12:40:06 PM
way i look at it is:
he's 90 something years old
he wasnt doing anything violent
he never got away
he lead a successfull life before
he jsut did it for some fun
and hes happy as a pig in shiat... good for him!
he knew the concequences, and didnt really expect to get rick quick, he just did it for fun

Prison is no different than a nursing home. He will get free room, board and medical care.
