Interesting to hear a democrat openly refer to the erosion of the constitution....

Why is the FCC trumpeting about the 200,000 complaints they got last year? I'd really love to compare ratings figures to their complaints. Let's suppose that all 200,000 are about one episode of a show. Chances are the show in question was being watched by millions of people. It'd be great to have the complaints about a show figured as a percentage of it's total audience. I'll bet they wouldn't top 1% in a single case.

For a petition... because this is all BS!!! I hate the FCC doing this. Rumors around my station have been that a stations lisence will be revoked by the end of the year - which has never happened as far as anyone knows.

My station couldn't offend a fly but we still had to have a 2 hour meeting, because even accidents aren't allowed anymore... it's horrible.

The Howard Stern First Amendment Test!

Prove that you can say whatever you want at work just like Howard!

Go here: The Smoking Gun: Archive.

Now print out the page and take it to work.

Read it out loud for a few hours.

See what happens.

Congratulations! Just like Howard you are showing your First Amendment rights at work!

Did you get fired? Blame Bush!

Whee!

Meanwhile The New York Times continues to be essentially a 12 page daily running advertisement for the Democratic Party.

Based on what? The fact that they run Paul Krugman?

Guess you don't read Safire or Friedman. Guess you don't read Judith Miller's "scoops" on the search for WMD and other assorted tales.

Guess you don't read much at all.

Here's a challenge for all the Farkers claiming liberal bias at the NY Times:

Cite us a SINGLE article (that's ARTICLE, not op-ed piece) that highlights this bias. I'm looking for one, big honking lie/distortion that exemplifies this "liberal bias." JUST ONE. C'mon it shouldn't be that hard, right?????

Religious fundamentalists must die.
Worshippers of the nanny state must die.

Any questions?

Wasn't Hitler's first move to control the media?

Clear Channel broadcasts propeganda on the airwaves.
Rupert Murdoch (Fox News) broadcasts propeganda on tv.

Soon, the Empire will be complete.

Dissenters will have no voice.

We must stop the Nazipublicans now.

If you are on fark all day speaking your mind, you should be real concerned about what happens to Howard. Whether you like him or not.

If you don't your an idiot.

You are wrong the blame the Republicans or the Democrats for this. The bill to increase the FCC fine 10 to 20 times is going to pass with very little opposition. Like Stern or hate him we all loose the right to turn him off ourselves.

We all do... but the FCC losens it's regulations on major companies owning more and more stations, but continues to crack down on people saying words like "pissed off" and "god damn" - it's horrible.

Eeww. No thank you. I don't mind hearing one song from them every year or so but on a regular basis? Ughs.

I don't like Howard Stern. I find him offensive, not funny at all, but I just changed the channel.

It seemed simple enough. Free speech, he can say it, I don't have to listen to it.

you're clueless.

The point is that one particular political party is undermining the constitution for its own personal benefit.

I heard John Kerry on a radio show yesterday defending CC's right to edit content. Everybody seems to forget Tipper Gore & the Democrat fascists when it comes to censorship. These folks are all pretty scary...

For all of you who care at all about politics and your freedom, I urge you to familiarize yourself with the libertairan party. You may embrace it, you may think its too radical. Doesnt matter, you owe it to yourselves to at least educate yourselves about another alternative.

This is not only about Dems and Reps.

If Michael Savage is still on the radio for telling someone they should get AIDS and die, a caller on the Stern show for saying ni--er doesn't even come close to be as offensive.

Alas, Savage is a conversative puppet so they let him stay.

I can't stand Savage, but when he made the AIDS comment he did so while hosting his short lived MSNBC TV show. He was immediately let go.

Facts, they are good for you.

2004-03-25 12:52:07 PM
Ok, ALL news is biased. It's a fact. It's impossible for it not to be.

However, papers of record like the NY Times, the Washington Post, the Financial Times, etc. recognize their bias and do their best to keep it in check.

(Actually, the Financial Times is pretty straighforward as far as news goes.)

As a consumer of news it's your job not to just read words off a page but actually interpret what they mean. Triangulate your news sources. Read 3 newspapers, don't watch any one news network (though they're all more and more the same).

If this seems like it's too difficult for you, you haven't earned the right to live in a liberal democracy. I find it hard to belive in the internet age that this is a challenge.

left vs right flamewar..

left or right, they are both against us as far as i can see
which party is promoting individual freedom and privacy?
Which is for the middle class... the working man..

ummm
i don't see any
I see a right wing pro coporation/total control.
and a left wing pro government/total control.
Either way we are farked, and they laugh at us while we bicker about which side is at fault.

The problem with bi-partisan politics is it allows for finger pointing and in the end nobody takes the blame. It is always the 'others' fault.

2004-03-25 12:53:03 PM
The same left-wing thought police that kicked Dr. Laura off radio and Savage off TV cries because six stations dropped Stern.

Where's that pic of the crying baby?

What the conservative right doesn't seem to understand is that in order to live in a free society, sometimes you are going to be offended by something someone else says or does.
Blindly supporting an administration who consistantly wipes their collective asses with the Constitution is the end of America as we know it. We can not survive another 4 years of GWB.

"Is it just me, or is the n word nothing new on Howard Stern? Doesn't the KKK guy Daniel Carver always utter it everytime he is on?

Hasn't he been on Howard for like 15 years or something?"

Precisely. That's why we all know Clear Channel is full of bologna when they say a caller's use of the N-word is why they pulled Stern off their stations.

I am soooo sick and tired of hearing Howard Stren moan, groan, whine, and cry about the FCC. GET OVER IT! Quit already. FARK.com is private property. Drew can configure the filters to turn everything I post into "I like to play with cuddly blue-eyed kittens." and he would be within his rights to do so.

The FCC is a government agency, which falls under the purview of the US Constitution, which includes an amendment forbidding government censorship. There's a big farking difference there.

I almost had to kick my brother-in-laws ass over this crap at a family gathering. During his ranting about indecency and how it's about time something is being done about it. I *may* have involuntarily racked up an "L" with one hand while I mentioned that market (We da People) ultimately decide on what should or should not travel the air waves of commercial radio/TV by our feed back either directly or thru consumer reaction to the products advertised. He offered to take out side and I was getting up to oblige when the pops-in-law grabbed mi arm and basically said not here you dumbasses. Wise man.

It's so unfair that someone like Howard Stern, someone who has spent his entire career selflessly promoting broadcast excellence and sticking up for the little guy, is being treated like this. Howard, who always gave air time to worthy causes - causes that served to promote a greater understanding of our common humanity, now needs our help - we mustn't let them crucify such a saint-like man. Certainly there are those who say Howard needs to take the wig back to Goodwill because he looks like such a dork wearing it; but wearing such a stupid, moronic looking hairstyle is just another way for this great man to stay in touch with us - the great dorkish multitudes he loves so much...

Clearly the only way to keep the balance in the US is to alternate parties every election. Each one sucks in its own unique and special way. We must balance the suckage!

Wow. You're really set in your ways aren't you? Liberals are just as bad when it comes to being offended. Religious icons, political correctness, reading race into every issue, excessive white guilt. (Patrice O'Neill finds that one particularly funny, and rightly so.)

It's a problem with our society in general, we're all victims, it's never our fault. I wouldn't be so hasty to accuse just one group of doing it.

Nice troll, but you missed 2 important points.

First, it is Stern's job to speak his mind on the radio. It is not my job to do so. I get paid to do other things. Howard gets paid to make fun of strippers.

Second, there's a difference between your boss firing you for not doing your job, and the government putting pressure on one of your bosses to drop you for doing your job.

He happened to be a casuality of having an opinion. (be it popular or unpopular)
