Well, pregnant women are cagey...

2004-03-22 03:45:01 PM
I don't blame them.
prisoner + labor = one pissed off broad.

Plus, there could be a shank hidden in the baby, and you don't want fools gettin' stabbed.

Them's gonna be some well balanced kids...I wish I could've said that I was born in prison

You could have at least thrown in "Neo Conservative" and "tree-hugging liberal" if you wanted a better flame war.

2004-03-22 04:46:08 PM
here's an idea, If you don't want to be cuffed in labor. Don't get your ass thrown in prison. Esp. while preggers. Or, here's an even better idea. Don't get Preggers!

anyone know where to get top-class, well designed and made bondage stuff on the web?

2004-03-22 04:47:54 PM
State prisons spokeswoman Dina Tyler says the policy is in place to prevent escapes.

Right, a pregnant woman would have absolutely no trouble in climbing through 200 metres of drainage pipes laden in fecal matter.

/ignite damn you

what? no chain gang or hard labor jokes? c'mon, farkers.

"Nelson says it was degrading to be chained while her contractions were getting closer."

I remember my mom saying "You should have thought of that before you screwed up." My point being these women don't get pregnant in prison, so they must be pregnant when they do the crime or get pregnant waiting for trial.
pregnant + crime = I don't give a damn how you feel, wear the leg irons and be happy the state doesn't make you pay your own medical bill.

"oh no, *swoon* the baby is comin' "

"take her to the infirmary, and get those shackles off"

The person who wrote this is a farking moron. Being pregnant does not make a con honest. And that assumes they actually are pregnant. Faking illness in order to get into a position where the con can escape is an old trick. Spill a little water on the floor, groan in pain, and grab a gun on the way to the hospital. Feel ashamed you're cuffed? Tough shiat--do the crime, pay the price. No tears here.

2004-03-22 04:52:15 PM
do women get conjugal visits ?

2004-03-22 04:53:53 PM
something tells me the baby isn't going to remember the shackles.

The baby is going to remember the crappy life of being born to a prison convict.

2004-03-22 04:54:09 PM
Wait, is this a prison, or a dungeon in Germany?

2004-03-22 04:55:26 PM

Just getting the woman ready for being a mother, is all.

I was getting all excited, I thought it was an article about nice, hot, sweaty young women being chained together while performing labor, but is is just about giving birth. Worst.Bait and Switch. Ever.

2004-03-22 04:55:28 PM
Anyone convicted of any crime should be immediately killed. Speeding = death - Cheating on taxes = Death. The sooner people start learning blind obedience to the government, the better...

2004-03-22 04:55:49 PM
a woman in shackles... that's farking hot.

2004-03-22 05:00:23 PM
Nelson says it was degrading to be chained

Prison is a degrading place.
Stay out of it if you want to keep your dignity.
Maintain your dignity by being law-abiding.
Once you're behind those bars there's few if any who will give a fark about you, myself possibly included.

/still feels really grumpy

2004-03-22 05:01:17 PM
Anyone able to find out what 30-year-old inmate Shawanna Nelson is in for?

Oh and is she hot?

/whatcha doin' after the birthin'?

Oh, those crazy f'ed up southern states.

Assinine? You ever see the trash that populates women's prisons? You think they wouldn't run like hell for freedom, even leaving their baby behind, the moment they had a chance, even just after a delivery?

If not, then you live in a fantasy world....

2004-03-22 05:12:20 PM
... or Roger Corman.

mmmm chicks 'n chains......

2004-03-22 05:12:31 PM

Assuming they actually are pregnant??? Come on. Faking illness is one thing, faking pregnancy to the point of being in labor is another thing entirely. "The person who wrote this is a moron"? No, you are.

2004-03-22 05:19:21 PM
In all honesty, I'm glad to see that there really is no flame war on this one. It appears to me that there is a tacit consensus that pregnancy does not warrant special treatment in prison.

To answer Laser Brains, the inmate in question is in prison for forgery, ala hot checks.

I know this because I live in Little Rock, and this story was in Sunday's paper.

For the record, I concur with the opinion that if she didn't want to be shackled while in labor, she shouldn't have committed the crime.

2004-03-22 05:34:18 PM
DrBenway

You can't fake pregnancy, but you could fake labor pains for instance.

2004-03-22 05:34:48 PM
That's right! And when the baby comes out we put shackles on them too! And the next day the mother has to be out picking up trash, or cotton as the case might be.

2004-03-22 05:35:26 PM
Hooray for Oklahoma and Arkansas for making Texas look Progressive!

2004-03-22 05:38:45 PM
I work in a hospital that deliveries inmates. they are shackled until the doc rights, removes restraints. They have a one on one guard in the room at all times. It is damn tough to fake a baby's heartbeat on a monitor so not a lot of faking by the time they get to me. And once in labor, most aren't thinking of escaping anywhere, except the pain of the labor. Oh, and there are safty protocols in place so that family or friends cannot find out they are with us, so no worries about that.

Sucks to be them, sucks to be in labor while incarcerated. Should have thought of that first I guess.

2004-03-22 05:40:39 PM
Having been in a delivery room several times during childbirth I'd have to say I'm 100% for the woman being restrained.

The amount of pressure in a birthing woman's clenched fist can crush a skull.

2004-03-22 05:43:58 PM
"You can't fake pregnancy, but you could fake labor pains for instance."

the oob: Indeed. But yesthatmcgurk specifically wrote "And that assumes they actually are pregnant."

"Dis here aint fair to my babee," LeTitia said as she started the second pack of Marlboros that day.

No offense to Farkettes that may have been wrongly convicted while pregnant, but here is my take on it:

Nasty biatch + drug problem = crime
Crime = prison
Baby = no concern unless it will get her out of work.

Look at the upside, at least you know she puts out.
Dont want to have a baby while locked up, dont get thrown in jail.

Awwwww... the poor women can't take being chained up while in hospital...

It's time to remove their chains, along with their right to vote.

2004-03-22 05:50:09 PM
The old ball and chain getting the ball and chain. Seems sort of ironic.

2004-03-22 05:52:18 PM
So let's check.

Does being shackled affect the health of the child (who, lets face facts, is going to have a shiatty enough life already without any more birth complications or defects other than those caused by alcohol or drug use by the mother)? No? Well then, we can fix this up with nice, hot cup of STFU.

TrippDoggAnyone convicted of any crime should be immediately killed. Speeding = death - Cheating on taxes = Death. The sooner people start learning blind obedience to the government, the better...

There was an episode of Star Trek TNG like that and Wesley was going to get killed for walking on some grass that was off limits. Funny shiat.

Okay, I'm a big dork because I know that.

2004-03-22 05:59:54 PM
oops... sorry for not closing the bold tag.
