Mark Cuban is exactly what I would be if I had billions...The crazy owner of the Mavs...

2004-03-16 09:05:21 PM
Too bad he only gets to spar with the Dallas columnists. He looks like he's ready for the big time.

2004-03-16 10:07:49 PM
Cuban's on-air beat-down of Peter Vescey is something more sports writers need.

blah blah blah....

But, WHAT MUSIC WAS HE LISTENING TO ???

These are things I need to know, when reading a blog.

What is a Mark Cuban?

I like the line the wraps around on "we were outside the school shooting
..."

Nice

I thought this guy was a player until I read big_pth's post. A very articulate player.

2004-03-16 11:24:22 PM
I thought anything Cuban was banned from the US?

2004-03-16 11:25:01 PM
Forget Ben Stein. I wanna win Mark Cuban's money!

Maybe he'll have a cigar named after him...

2004-03-16 11:26:38 PM
yes, but who does he have a crush on but who isn't talking to him because she likes someone else??!

2004-03-16 11:26:55 PM
We are so lucky here in DFW...we have three crazy owners...Cuban...Jerry Jones...Tom Hicks, but Cuban is video/audio/comedy gold everyday! He almost went through with a bet a few years ago that a local radio show guy proposed...the personality would legally change his name to Dallas Maverick in exchange for Big $$$

If he was a player the Blog would just be him answering questions from his 24 illegitimate children....

His working at the DQ was pretty cool....I like Mark. I hate basketball, but Cuban seems like a likable guy....granted I don't follow his day-to-day headlines, but from what I've gathered I'd have a few beers with him...if he was paying.

2004-03-16 11:31:14 PM
UzzFark, I completely agree. Except that Hicks (great name for an owner in Texas, by the way) is blow $250 billion on a guy, and keep paying him for 20 years after he leaves crazy, and Jerry Jones is more JR Ewing crazy. As far as owners go, Cuban's the man around the Metroplex, IMHO.

2004-03-16 11:34:10 PM
Greenville, I agree with you as well...I photograph events around the metroplex for several newspapers and I run into Hicks all the time, but he has strangely disappeared as of late. He is pretty nice guy...real quiet, but I am livid with the direction of the Rangers. Thankfully, Cuban totally gets it...hand out max contracts to guys that get the job done and trade them if they don't!

2004-03-16 11:37:47 PM
Also the only owner I know that would let his coach (allegedly) invite a player on another team (Avery Johnson) to help coach his team in the playoffs. I'm almost begging him to take over the Cowboys, watching him and Snyder have a bidding war for players would be something to see!

Mark Cuban is one of my personal heros.. I once saw him as I was walking out of Sapphire (the world's largest strip club) in Las Vegas, he was walking in. I sent him an email about it a couple days later, but I have not received a response yet.

2004-03-16 11:43:03 PM
what a great guy. he loves his team so much that he set up the mavs with a sick state of the art locker room. plasma screens, dvd players, the works.

i saw something he did on ESPN awhile back and i emailed him about it. lo and behold, he wrote me back the next day. pretty cool if you ask me.

he is a true sports nut. not some flail who just cares about the dollars and cents.

2004-03-16 11:45:00 PM
I'm waiting to see if he pulls another April Fools Day stunt like he did last year. Anyone remember that shoving match he put on with the fake official? Nellie nearly blew a gasket!

2004-03-16 11:46:05 PM
Who?

2004-03-16 11:47:04 PM
When Cuban took over as owner, the Mavs stank. Lots of NBA teams stink, but instead of just loading up a few top picks, Cuban has really put together a consistant playoff team without any talent that was considered top tier when he got ahold of it.
I even read that to get ticket sales going at first, he'd go work with the telemarkters, cold calling people to sell tickets.
I just groan when I hear about his latest mini-scandal, but he's really just a loud but intelligent fan who somehow ended up owning a major franchise. It's the American dream!

Funny that he doesn't remember you....I make it a point to remember every single person I pass in the course of my day. Arrogant rich bastard.

2004-03-16 11:50:00 PM
knucklebreather, you are absolutely right. Except to say the Mavs stank back then would be an insult to stink!

Cuban's done everything right except buy a defense. I think that will come next year, hate to lose any of our guys now, though.

2004-03-16 11:52:16 PM
The mavs are so lucky to have an owner like Cuban. Most owners barely attend their home games.. cuban goes on the road, sits in the front row cheering louder than hell with a big foam finger and a pint of beer.

I have ALOt of respect for him, and hope his techniques rub off on other [perspective] owners.

2004-03-16 11:54:15 PM
Who? What? Huh?

Read TFA and still don't get it.

Is this one of those sports things?

The man buys people a round in the bar when he walks in after a Mav's win. Awesomeness

2004-03-17 12:04:04 AM
I wonder what Ruroni Kenshin character Mark Cuban is. But I can't find out because he isn't taking these quizzes.

Some people just don't know a thing about blogging.

2004-03-17 12:04:23 AM
I really like the man. It's good to see an owner so involved. He even seems intelligent based on this blog.

2004-03-17 12:04:35 AM
I read once that shortly before he bought the team he tried to pal around with a couple of the Mavs at a Dallas bar. They of course blew him off. Then in a week or whenever he shows up at a meeting to announce he is buying the team and says like "hi guys, remember me?"

Seriously though, this guy is the polar opposite of Charles Comiskey. Ever see the Mavericks locker room or practice facilities or team plane? Freaking swank.

Cuban once performed CPR on a prematurely-born puppy. And it lived!

Maybe the Clippers owner Sterling should take some notes...the Lakers would have some actual competition in the city if he started doing some of this stuff (the money, not the fines).

I've seen the locker room on one of the Mavs' halftime segments. God I Wish.

2004-03-17 12:15:09 AM
Is he the guy that makes those yummy Cuban cigars?

2004-03-17 12:16:22 AM
Wouldn't know. (wink, wink) We're not allowed to have 'em. (nudge nudge)

2004-03-17 12:17:15 AM
I'm a Kings fan, and I love Mark Cuban. He and the Maloofs (which deserves to be a new word) are the best owners in the NBA. It really feels like they're fans first, and owners second.

Don't agree? Go fark yourself, you maloof!

It always amazes me when someone responds to a sports topic by saying they know nothing about the topic and/or person w/in said topic.

Begs the query.

Why I never chime in on thermonuclear dynamics and the care of scurvy infested wart hog topics.

2004-03-17 12:20:41 AM
I'll agree on the Maloof Brothers, they've done a hell of a job with the Sacramento team. For my money, Mavs-Kings has been my favorite playoff series each of the last two years (even though we lost one of them).

"Before Cuban's arrival, to call the Mavericks the Cincinnati Bengals of basketball would have been an insult to the Bengals. " Taken from SigmundFreud's link

Harsh line, but accurate.

2004-03-17 12:25:19 AM
I LIKED this guy before I clicked on the link and read that crap.
I would rather have read about how Mallo Cups are made. Anything else.

For scurvy infested warthogs, you want the Duke thread.

Besides the obvious question of who the hell is Mark Cuban... I think another important question is who the hell cares?!

Almost a new record...48 posts before the Who the Hell Cares post. Surprised it took that long 8)

2004-03-17 12:46:29 AM
His blog is so boring from my standpoint that he should pay me to read it... and he can certainly afford to. And he seems smart - made a few billion before the tech bubble burst, I guess. Right the fark on.

Do any hockey team owners have blogs?

2004-03-17 12:47:47 AM
I look exactly like this guy...dead ringer.

that's all. goodnight.
