I'm of the opinion that any government agent who does this should be fired.

I believe that a Sheriff's Deputy was fired for taking debris from the Columbia when it crashed.

There's always going to be the factor of morbid curiosity to consider, but public officials need to put themselves above that.

If Rumsfeld took debris from the pentagon to put on his desk, he should be fired.

You wish...I think that the people in charge of the prosecution of the war against the islamists should keep a reminder on their desk...

2004-03-13 09:42:56 AM
I am quite sure he has it there as a reminder of the attacks. Both to him and visitors to his office. And rightly so. We are in the middle of a war on terror and he has been one of the best defense secretaries in decades.

Would anyone whine if a museum had this on a desk somewhere?

2004-03-13 09:43:03 AM
The families of 9/11 victims should feel fortunate the Bush regime is not keeping body parts on their desk.

2004-03-13 09:50:48 AM
Give me a break - like he needs a reminder of the attacks. You don't think he's reminded when he brings it up twelve times a day? Or when the administration talks about it constantly to the detriment of everything else?

Reminder, my ass. It's just another example of how laws apply to everyone but the Bush administration.

2004-03-13 09:51:41 AM
It will be interesting to watch Rumsfeld talk his way around this one. My quess is that he'll use the old "it helped to keep me focused on the war against terrorism" or some such BS.

What a complete lack of respect for the victims of 9/11. We need a "Douche Bag" tag.

2004-03-13 09:54:43 AM
A complete lack of respect would be to lob a few cruise missles into a tent in the desert as a response to the murder of 3,000 citizens...

2004-03-13 09:54:52 AM
Stapon - what a bunch of crap! He took it because he could. If he had the intention of using it in that manner, he would (or should) have made mention of that fact somewhere in the last 2 1/2 years.

2004-03-13 10:13:18 AM
Had he made mention of it, you Bush haters would have been screaming "ATTENTION WHORES" at the top of your lungs...your hatred of those men have made y'all transparent...

2004-03-13 10:13:29 AM
I don't view it as much of a crime. Sure, it may have been a dumb thing to do, but if he gives it back and it's put in a bag somewhere that won't help anybody.

2004-03-13 10:19:49 AM
I'm surprised the Republican Party hasn't auctioned off 9/11 artifacts in the name of patriotism and fighting terrorism.

2004-03-13 10:25:27 AM
You're too funny Dancin_In_Anson.

2004-03-13 10:27:08 AM
I can not imagine what one's life is like to spew vile like that.

2004-03-13 10:27:44 AM
The families of 9/11 victims should feel fortunate the Bush regime is not keeping body parts on their desk.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, dude.

2004-03-13 10:28:24 AM
Like you wouldn't have snagged a piece if you could. Please.

2004-03-13 10:28:29 AM
This is going to be good.

I'll give some one this $2.00 bill if this doesn't turn in to a "why do you hate America,Left, right,in my humble opinion"flame war

2004-03-13 10:28:41 AM
I see that the farkers on this thread are anti-Republican reactionaries. Let's hear the mantra: "Bush bad; anti-Bush good". Keep repeating, you critical thinkers, keep repeating.

Rumsfeld has a shard of metal from the jetliner

A shard of metal. Of all the metal in a plane, he has one shard that sits on a spot on his desk. Please. Somebody get a sense of proportion.

2004-03-13 10:30:51 AM
Gunboat Sorry to say, but there seems to be a exponential increase in idiocy around here.

2004-03-13 10:30:52 AM
Now normally, I'm wouldn't say this. But I think I need to say it now.

It's just another example of how laws apply to everyone but the Bush administration.

I think Clinton broke the law while in office, right? I mean, there is absolutely no question that he committed perjury. The real question in the President's case should always be this: does it really matter?

As in Clinton's case, it doesn't matter here. It's not like Rumsfeld took any piece of the Port Authority's property, and there wasn't some massive cover-up involved in hiding this collectible that will one day make him the "richest man in the world." No, Rumsfeld has it as a small memorial to the victims of 9/11, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Next on FOX: "When mudslinging breaks down to such petty things as oral sex or pieces of airplanes"

2004-03-13 10:30:56 AM
Dammit, and here I was hoping to snag a piece of the Madrid trains, and Rumsfeld goes and gets caught. So much for nostalgia.

2004-03-13 10:31:31 AM
As much as loathe both the Puppet-in-Chief and those who pull his strings, Rumsfeld among them, I fail to see how this is a very big deal. So Rumsfeld has a small memento of 9/11 that is otherwise useless to absolutely anyone; so what?

2004-03-13 10:31:41 AM
Disrespectful and irresponsible.

What a sense of entitlement he must harbour.

2004-03-13 10:31:50 AM
Double standards , the face of REPUBLICAN politics.

2004-03-13 10:32:20 AM
Now, now, remember....

Ashcroft says he wants all federal criminals prosecuted to the full extent of the law -- no plea bargains, no exceptions.

If this had been a firefighter or a police officer (you know, someone actually risking something by being there) who stole that shard, well....

What's good for the goose, all that.

2004-03-13 10:32:22 AM
Oddly, this doesn't bother me at all. The piece probably serves as a daily motivator to win the war on terror. It may be tacky, but I'm sure his heart was in the right place. It's not like he's going to put it up on ebay.

2004-03-13 10:32:35 AM
that just goes to show what value they put american life. hey, this is cool! i'll put it on my desk. i bet he has a nazzi lampshade too.

2004-03-13 10:32:38 AM
Maybe it's there to remind him of his administration's 9/11 intelligence failures.

2004-03-13 10:32:55 AM
A shard of metal. Of all the metal in a plane, he has one shard that sits on a spot on his desk. Somebody get a sense of proportion.

Exactly, Gunboat. This is the Defense Secretary we're talking about, too. He is one of our leaders whether we agree with his policies or not.

2004-03-13 10:33:14 AM
SchlingFo

You're of that opinion if they are a part of the Bush Administration. If it was announced that John Kerry has a toilet from the 8th floor, I don't think we would hear a peep from you, or we would all hear about how stupid it is that the press is making a big deal of it.

2004-03-13 10:33:15 AM
Sort of like a memento from a successful operation?

2004-03-13 10:33:27 AM

"anti-Republican reactionaries."

oxymoron. or since this is fark, oxymoran?

2004-03-13 10:34:10 AM
Gunboat - still should have gotten somekind of ok, or made it official.

It honestly shocks me how partisan the US is. It reflects poorly on Bush, but defending or attack this act should not be a party position.

2004-03-13 10:34:28 AM
OH MY GOD THE DISRESPECT!!!! IMPEACH DUBYA!!!!! DAMN YOU NEOREPUBZ!@

it's a hunk of metal, probably no bigger than your soda can.

ok..i am very left-wing. i'm usually the first to jump on the wagon and complain about the right... but this? who gives a shiat...so what--he did nothing wrong.

2004-03-13 10:34:36 AM
Hmm...don't know what to think. It's a bit sinister but I remember being in Berlin right after the wall came down and tourists were buying pieces of the wall everywhere. There are a lot of people who are gruesome like that.

That said, Rumsfeld is an asshat but this is one of the things that will spring to mind in the future when I think about why he's an asshat.

2004-03-13 10:35:00 AM
control Let's not forget that the 9-11 attacks were being planned for a few years prior to Bush being sworn into office. You think your do-nothing-wrong idol Clinton had no responsibility here?

Please, get a grip.

2004-03-13 10:35:10 AM
That bad cop... He's so bad!

2004-03-13 10:35:28 AM
Isn't taking or possession of evidence of a plane crash or other crime/criminal investigation a crime itself?

Interfering with a federal investigation? Ten years in Pounding-In-The-Ass Prison and $250,000 fine?

I know that was brought up with the space shuttle disaster... so why wouldn't it apply to taking bits of evidence from 9/11?

2004-03-13 10:35:36 AM
Now in darkness world stops turning,
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more War Pigs have the power,
And as God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees the war pigs crawling,
Begging mercies for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings

2004-03-13 10:36:04 AM
i say we take that shard of metal and shove it up his hairy white ass.

Bush Administration sucks donkey dicks.

Who wants a piece of this ????????

2004-03-13 10:36:09 AM
hey Dancin_In_Anson, go back to israel you racist, jewish farker

2004-03-13 10:36:32 AM
Gunboat

a.) Reactionaries are typically to the right, radicals to the left.

b.) Would I be allowed to keep a piece of a plane that crashed into the world trade center? I would remind me of our war on terror (uhm, war on terrorism?)... so that's alright, huh?

wait, no, it's morbid and at the very least unprofessional behavior, and it's unbecoming of a government official to behave in such a fashion. stop making excuses.

2004-03-13 10:36:38 AM
control, it is obvious that you hate the Bush Administration. But really, are you this one-sided?

HIS department's intelligence failures? Please...do you want to bring up the failures of the department BEFORE Rumsfeld was in charge?

2004-03-13 10:37:01 AM
hey Dancin_In_Anson, go back to israel you racist, jewish farker

oh the irony.

It's against the law to do this.

I'm always amazed how die-hard "Republicans" tap dance the issues so perfectly for their heroes.

This administration is disgusting. How can a real Republican stand for this? My mind is boggled.

2004-03-13 10:39:04 AM
KoolerThanJesus

Ah yes, an Ozzy quote for every occasion. You are Iron, man.
