What silly laws we have... people trying to get some play can go to jail.

We all need to loosen up a bit, maybe we could go have some drinks up the street.

Oh damn, I just commited a crime.

The whole sting operation reminds me of a certain Monty Python sketch... A cop and a man on the street talking, ends with "So, you want to go back to my place then?"

"Anyone who just flirts or discusses having consensual sex in private could be arrested under the laws..."

Ouch.

And they wonder why cops have such a high divorce rate...

"Don't even talk about it, honey. I don't want to have to arrest you."

In Detroit police are locking men up for waving, in New York, police are helping a man to run around Times Square in a thong.

Now THAT'S a fresh batch of articles. Welcome back Drew! :)

The cops should arrest the politicians for being annoying.

Just playing Devil's Advocate here, but I don't know if "annoying" is the right word here. Perhaps "propositioning passerby for homosexual acts in public", but that's not PC. Although I would find getting propositioned for butt-sex pretty dang annoying.

I like the fitting name of the reporter, Chastity Pratt.
I'm sure there was no one better to cover that story.

The arrests were made under two Detroit ordinances, one aimed at discouraging annoying behavior...

Yet they still allow Kid Rock to roam free? I don't get it.

I would find getting propositioned for butt-sex pretty dang annoying.

Maybe I am not homophobic enough, but I would mind being hit on by a guy about as much as I would mind being hit on by a girl, which is to say, not much.

People try to score all the time. I don't see how it can be regarded differently soley based on the genders involved. I might turn down a guy down for different reasons than I would turn a girl down, but as long as they aren't overly aggressive, life goes on. The article didn't seem to mention more than normal routines of people trying to get laid. And the cops seemed to lead it...

Except in the case of the guy, I doubt there's enough beer on the planet that would make me accept the proposal.

BTW, I've been hit on by a guy before. It wasn't a creepy as you think. A little shocking at first, and then the guy backed off right away once he realized I wasn't into that sort of thing. He offered to buy me a drink to appologize. I politely refused.

If annoying behavior is illegal, there's a big long list of people I need to turn in.

This thread is annoying, i am making a citizen's arrest!!!

I wish they would pass a law like that in my state! Truthfully that is quite likely the most ridiculous thing I have every heard. A law that prohibits annoying behavior? what the fark? Detroit sucks in so many ways.

gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
In a park, on the swings, teetertoter and monkeybars.
Now THAT'S a party.

if being annoying is illegal, than the terrorists have already won.

What does the PSA tag mean?

And I can't believe police are trying to entrap people into having sex with them, just to try to make a little money for the city. Don't they have some *real* crimes to be looking into? Some terrorism to be preventing maybe?

2001-12-19 12:30:03 PM
That why they put a restraining order of Fran Drescher. She isn't even allowed within city limits.

The suit alleges that men perceived as gays seeking illegal sexual activity were arrested and their cars were impounded for acts such as waving at police decoys.

Police in Houston (Harris County), Tx. tried this about 10-12 years ago. A citizen who did not like a police helicopter flying over his neighborhood noisily shot the pilot "the bird".

Officers arrested him for "soliciting prostitution". Press and ACLU had a good time with that one.

No conviction, embarassed police.

Damn, I'm only now finding out about this law... I'm going to go make some citizen's arrests. First on my list Mariah Carey, then the team that designed the Ford Excursion, Rasheed Wallace, Bonzi Wells and the rest of the Trail Blazers, the guy that parks his porche across two spots in our parking lot....

Hummmm, gonna be a busy day.

If police can arrest someone for being "an annoying person" can I help setup a sting at my office? I know plenty of people who are offenders.

2001-12-19 03:32:23 PM
*raises hand* I also volunteer my services for a sting operation.

WoodyTX: Annoying may not be the right word but if you read the article that is what he was arrested for. Also, interestingly enough I posted this with the Asinine tag and it got changed to PSA.....weird......whatever though......as long as everyone on fark gets to see how stupid detroit is I don't really care that the tag was changed, especially since it would have been changed by Drew and not fundofreak from yesterday.

Hmm... Do people who write annoying emails count?

If they do, the spammers, the people who forward all those stupid jokes and virus warnings, and about half of the knuckledraggers who write 'Letters to the Editor' should be locked away for a long, long time....

2001-12-19 04:48:17 PM
So what was Chewbacca?

2001-12-19 05:42:44 PM
If I can't go get some gay sex in the park at 3:26 A.M. on a warm morning then these so called "terrorists" have won.

2001-12-19 08:19:14 PM
Headline should have read, "Fundomatic flees prosecution in Detroit".
