Hello, friends. Donald O'Connor here.

You know, in an election year, it's very easy to call each other names and say awful, mean things to one another. And you may ask yourself, "Why would any American feel comfortable tearing another American down?"

I'll admit, it is a bit head-scratching.

So I'm here to remind those of you on FARK to remember that at the end of the day, we are all Americans. More importantly, we're all neighbors, and will be far after this election is over.

So, please. Be kind to your neighbor. Try to think of it from his perspective before you call him a mother-f*cking, tree-hugging communist, or a baby-killing, cracka-assed fundie. That goes for you, Eat Ham, and you, pgoat. And yes, even you, Constant Reader.

Remember, we're all in this together! So let's make this a respectful, neighborly thread!

And it just keeps going on and on and on... C'mon mods! Let's find something to approve that's more interesting than yet ANOTHER right/left flamewar. Yeesh.

2004-03-11 03:03:37 PM
Hey, remember the time Bush lied to the country for 3 years in a row, and then Kerry called him a liar, and then Bush said: "Waaaah! Take it back!" and Kerry said "No."? That was awesome.

2004-03-11 03:07:27 PM
LarsThorwald, you are my new hero.

2004-03-11 03:10:55 PM
Nice work, Lars.

2004-03-11 03:11:34 PM
Good headline!

2004-03-11 03:17:18 PM
Some named this guy "Lurch" the other day. That is so true and they get my vote.

2004-03-11 03:19:31 PM
LarsThorwald I never called anyone a motherfarker you pinko.

Can anyone tell me if this is like the time Bush left the microphone on at a press conference and started talking shiat about the reporters?

2004-03-11 03:42:31 PM
Yes, Bush called 1 reporter a major league asshole back in 2000.

It is not the same as Kerry's blanket slandering of the entire republican party.

2004-03-11 03:43:39 PM
At least John Kerry doesn't say stupid shiat when the microphone is on, either:

"There are some who feel that, you know, the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, bring 'em on. We have the force necessary to deal with the situation."

2004-03-11 03:44:15 PM
I also find it a damn shame that people are voting against Bush, in order to vote against Bush.

Here is an idea, why not vote for a candidate that you believe in because of their policies. Not because they are not Bush. That is a farking stupid way to place your vote. Vote issues, not the man.

2004-03-11 03:45:30 PM
It is not the same as Kerry's blanket slandering of the entire republican party.

How is it slander if it is true?

Besides that, Kerry offered an explanation, and the Republicans don't want to believe it. You Republicans... you are such Democrats.

2004-03-11 03:54:45 PM
I wonder if the author and publisher of this should also apologize.

If you think your vote counts then you forgot about The Electoral College

I think a candidate should also say who he picks for his cabinet not just V.P. He may be good but his cabinets could be a bunch of idiots and vice versa.

2004-03-11 03:59:11 PM
I wonder if they would have been upset if he had only called them emphasizers.

2004-03-11 04:01:29 PM
So JR, you are calling the ENTIRE republican party crooked liars? You have proof of this?

Also, do you have proof of every person in the democratic party of ALWAYS telling the truth?

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman" Ring a fookin' bell?

Speaking of changing position, headline-writer, Bush as president has changed his position on:

nation-building
federal deficits
the environment
CO2 emissions
a homeland security department
trade agreements
No Child Left Behind
the Patriot Act

etc.

2004-03-11 04:31:25 PM
...

Feh.

MrBigglesworth
You sir, are an idiot. Leave the vitriol to the people on fark-light.

I thought this was funny.

For those too lazy to click the link, the highlights.

There are three issues which incumbant US Presidents can usually count on to get themselves re[sic]-elected:

1. Lower taxes for the rich. He's done that.

2. Support 'traditional family values,' whatever that means. You don't actually have to do it, you just have to say it 15 times in front of microphones. He's done that.

3. Kick ass. It doesn't matter whose ass, but the UN, Africans, South Americans, Central Americans, Mexicans, South East Asians, Near East Asians, any damned Asians, Middle Easterners, Carribeans, Germans, Russians, Hispanics, and peoples or places you've never heard of before, are perennial favorites. He's done that.

"I can't believe I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, and incumbancy." So who needs peace and prosperity anyway? Just follow the above three-point plan and you're a shoe-in. If that fails, Daddy will pull some strings...elections no longer necessary.

2004-03-11 05:09:29 PM
What with not being a U.S. resident and having little interest in the elections, bar watching the arm chair politicians turn into rabid windbags and endlessly argue the same points ad infinitum. IMHO Kerry is the better option. At least he doesn't seem like as much of an idiot.

2004-03-11 05:16:07 PM
Here is an idea, why not vote for a candidate that you believe in because of their policies. Not because they are not Bush. That is a farking stupid way to place your vote. Vote issues, not the man.

Gee, good thinking, wonder why nobody's ever thought of that.

People who are voting against Bush ARE voting issues, dingleberry. As in "Bush's policies are so incredibly bad, ANYBODY else has got to be better." Is Kerry the next guy to go on Mount Rushmore? Somehow I doubt it. But in the absence of an ideal candidate, one has no choice but to vote against the guy with the scarier policies. Plus, I said it before, and I'll say it again - even if Kerry turned out to be a total idiot, at least he would be an idiot WITHOUT the unequivocal support of the other two branches of government. You know, that whole checks and balances thing that people seem to have forgotten about because they haven't been used in the last three years.

As an afterthought, I seem to remember a Republican-led circus over a blowjob five years ago. Issues. Yeah.

2004-03-11 05:28:49 PM
Man, now I really want to vote for Kerry... he reflects my beliefs exactly!

/no apology, ever.

2004-03-11 05:47:20 PM
Can I get a "HERO" tag? I thought it was completely assinine for the Bush camp to demand an apology from Kerry when you know that three months down the road they're going to be running slander ads against him and calling him a liar. I'm glad that the democrats at least learned something from Al Gore's failure - Don't be a pussy.

Reuters: Bush Campaign Shows First Attack Ad Against Kerry

Thank goodness I'm in Georgia. As in GeorgeDubia. State is so rock solid convinced WMD were found in Iraq and George is blessed by Jesus, I'll never have to see his lying ads.

Saying everyone in Texas supports and thinks like George Bush is like saying everyone in Georgia is as dumb as you are.

"Man, now I really want to vote for Kerry... he reflects my beliefs exactly!"

He reflects everyone's beliefs at some point. Depends on the date and audience

2004-03-11 06:22:27 PM
Hey man, I'm just glad I don't live in a battleground state.

The question, battleground-state citizen, is this:

Who would you rather want to have a beer with?

(Not really. But that's what it's going to come down to, ain't it? Well, maybe not, because although Bush won that particular poll, he didn't actually win the poll that matters...)

2004-03-11 06:26:31 PM
MajorJackass Thank you for the campaign poster. Your wit is truly dizzying. Your rational, well-thought-out discourse is one of the shining points that makes Fark so enjoyable to those of us interested in spirited discussion of current events, boobies, and those oddities of the web.

That said, this article makes Kerry look like less of an ass than before. I can't wait to see what Karl Rove has up his sleeve...

2004-03-11 07:18:10 PM
I'm just sorry I had no intention of bad-mouthing the good people of Texas. Because if I was going to, I'd be freaking out right now at sick_mother's pre-emptive strike. Like the truth is out there, ya know?

Hardly "pre-emptive" but you should know being from the "South" about stereotypes. I'm from N.J. but have been living in the south for 16 years. Everyone here (self-included) are not ass picking sister bangers.

2004-03-11 08:52:07 PM
Kudo's to the headline writer!

2004-03-11 08:55:24 PM
Kerry should be contrite as soon as Bush apologizes for calling that reporter an "asshole" over an open mike...

2004-03-11 08:57:30 PM
See, I'm thinking hero here.

Al Gore would have apologized.

2004-03-11 08:59:21 PM
Everyone here (self-included) are not ass picking sister bangers.

Hmm...I don't know about that. How seriously we can take a statement like that from a self proclaimed sick_mother_farker?

2004-03-11 08:59:28 PM
Umm yeah, KERRY is the waffler. Riiiiiiight.
2 Bush ads from 2000:
Ad 1
Ad 2

All your arguments are imbecilic.

2004-03-11 09:01:51 PM
Kerry should be contrite as soon as Bush apologizes for calling that reporter an "asshole" over an open mike...

oh, so does that make them even now? or do the repubs get to say something candid now and not have you cry about it?

2004-03-11 09:02:41 PM
I swear some of you need to grow a sense of humor - regardless of which side you are on, that headline was funny. The fact that some of you cant find any humor in any joke made at the expense of your guy is just sad and leads me to believe you dont have much of a life beyond the fark forums.

2004-03-11 09:03:16 PM
Kerry has turned into one of those old geezers from the Muppet Show. And all he does is complain.

....except that Kerry isn't funny.

That's funny, I seem to remember a republican-led circus over someone lying under oath five years ago.

2004-03-11 09:04:12 PM
Kerry shoudn't apologize. what he said was accurate. I expect this will be the nastiest campaign in history, and the republican hate machine is already in high gear.

I missed the last flamewar, but surely someone mentioned the faked photo of kerry sitting near Jane Fonda?

2004-03-11 09:04:46 PM
Let's talk about liars:

Bush is against a Homeland Security Department; then he's for it.
Bush is against a 9/11 commission; then he's for it.
Bush is against an Iraq WMD investigation; then he's for it.
Bush is against nation building; then he's for it.
Bush is against deficits; then he's for them.
Bush is for free trade; then he's for tariffs on steel; then he's against them again.
Bush is against the U.S. taking a role in the Israeli Palestinian conflict; then he pushes for a "road map" and a Palestinian State.
Bush is for states right to decide on gay marriage, then he is for changing the constitution.
Bush first says he'll provide money for first responders (fire, police, emergency), then he doesn't.
Bush first says that 'help is on the way' to the military ... then he cuts benefits.
Bush: "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. Bush: "I don't know where he is. I have no idea and I really don't care."
Bush claims to be in favor of the environment and then secretly starts drilling on Padre Island.
Bush talks about helping education and increases mandates while cutting funding.
Bush first says the U.S. won't negotiate with North Korea. Now he will
Bush goes to Bob Jones University. Then say's he shouldn't have.
Bush said he would demand a U.N. Security Council vote on whether to sanction military action against Iraq. Later Bush announced he would not call for a vote.
Bush said the "mission accomplished" banner was put up by the sailors. Bush later admits it was his advance team.
Bush was for fingerprinting and photographing Mexicans who enter the US. Bush after meeting with Pres. Fox, he's against it.

2004-03-11 09:06:02 PM
w00t let the unbias headlines commence.
Kerry doesn't need to apologize because it's the truth, and it's already public information. The republican party's prime supports are the christian league of death (or whatever they call themselves this crusade) and the NRA (who supplies the christian league of death). They are by their own nature crooked, intangled in self interest.

Let's review:

Goal of christian groups: Kill all non-christians, establish christian society. Position in church becomes position in society: a position of power.
Goal of NRA: Mesh existing capitalism with an armory race for a might-makes-right society. NRA holds the cards, becomes in control.
Goal of republican party: Nothing in particular. There are a bunch of separate agendas which are barely held together. They are simply against the common interests against democracy and peace.

Now before some idiot replies to this (and they will), do remember something: A group is not a person. Most christians don't support the killing of non christians. However when you put them all in a group, it's what the group desires. As for the NRA, I haven't a good thing to say about them. They eat babies.

2004-03-11 09:06:43 PM
Remember John Foster? Remember Robert Melon Scaife and Paula Jones? Impeachment? Newt? Rush? Tom DeLay? Republicans reset the standards of political discourse and now they don't like the fact Democrats have descended to their level.

GOP stands for Gutless Old pharks: they can dish it out but they can't take it.
