Not Cool

2001-12-18 11:31:58 AM
Two? Aw yeah.

2001-12-18 11:32:49 AM
How the bloody hell are they going to reunite without Sidney Vish? They'll have to dig him up I suppose. Silly old farts.

2001-12-18 11:33:34 AM
Sid Vicious was a talentless loser. Glen Matlock played bass on Bollocks.

2001-12-18 11:33:56 AM

Is it just me , or does Johnny Rotten look a lot like Elton john these days?

2001-12-18 11:35:28 AM
BTW- Its all about the Clash, or the Buzzcocks, or any number of actually talented early English punk bands.

2001-12-18 11:36:51 AM
MojoGobo: Of course Sid Vish was a talentless clod - that was the whole point. I don't care if Matlock played better than Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Pistols weren't meant to have talent for anything other than offending the "establishment."

2001-12-18 11:37:50 AM
So the queen and the sex pistols are doing a duet? She's really letting rip these days, watching strippers the other week and now this.

Good bless you ma'am....makes me proud to be English.

2001-12-18 11:37:54 AM
Isn't it Johhny Lyden? From PIL? ;)

2001-12-18 11:38:29 AM
Har har, Berklee said lol

2001-12-18 11:38:49 AM
I prefer Creeper Lagoon and the Misfits myself.

2001-12-18 11:38:52 AM
Ok, ok...Canada and England. Now you're just mocking me. So I must repeat my ultimatum. New article within 20 minutes or this thread gets hit with the goatse_cx guy. It's childish, I know, but you guys have to understand how bored I am sitting in an empty office.

2001-12-18 11:38:54 AM
Johnny Rotten is a rude idiotic jerk off to people! I guess that's why I like him.

2001-12-18 11:39:47 AM
MojoGobo - Back in the '70s they were ALL talentless as far as playing music instraments goes.. they barely knew how. They were much much better at playing with their regroup tour.. but it kind of sucked, didn't feel the same.. Rotten was better in P.I.L. anyway

2001-12-18 11:39:59 AM
Yawn

2001-12-18 11:40:36 AM
No Cheez_whiz, the Sex Pistol's existed to sell t-Shirts for their manager's head shop.

THey were fabricated, in much the same way as the Monkees.

2001-12-18 11:40:43 AM
I was in the UK in high school at the time these "shockers" hit the public eye. They were a bunch of rich, white kids playing poor and "shocking" the establishment by swearing on the TV. They always had Daddys money to fall back on if they went too far. Now, the ones left living, are old, boring, has-beens who want one more ride on the backs of the their working class "brothers". The money must be running out, Fark them, let them go work like I had to, never mind all this bollocks.

2001-12-18 11:40:46 AM
I refuse to comment on these talentless freaks.

Oh dammit.

2001-12-18 11:40:48 AM
Dig up Sid Vicious? Sure. Prop him up with a bass around him and ya know what? The Sex Pistols will still SUCK.

2001-12-18 11:41:59 AM
They mean it, man !

Sex Pistols without Sid... Nahhh Bollocks

Sid defined Punk.

2001-12-18 11:44:09 AM
just wouldn't be the same without Sid Vicious

2001-12-18 11:44:34 AM
I don't know that sucking ass on your instrument is necessary or even beneficial to being a great punk band. Look at the Clash. One of the greatest punk bands ever, and all of them reasonably competent on their instruments. They were able to rock balls, come up with biting social commentary, and still piss people off.

2001-12-18 11:45:09 AM
Wagohn
While I don't have overwhelming respect the music of the Pistols, they were definitely not rich kids with daddy's money. Malcom McLaren, yes, the actual band actually poor and drity as they looked.

2001-12-18 11:46:31 AM
Hear Hear MojoGobo!

Rock da freakin' casbah, baby!

2001-12-18 11:47:02 AM
MojoGobo
Right on, I am listening to the first Clash album right now. Even that album shows real talent, actual social commentary, etc.
CLASH CITY ROCKERS

2001-12-18 11:48:28 AM
so?

2001-12-18 11:48:50 AM
OK, yes, it sucks that they're getting back together...again. They should have stuck with "burn out" and not dabbled in "fade away. Having said that, they were very, very far from talentless. Disgusting? Yes. Too drunk to play? Yes. But Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock kicked much ass, and Mr. Rotten had, as the French say, a certain ... I don't know what...

2001-12-18 11:49:41 AM
"Sex Pistols without Sid... Nahhh Bollocks

Do you know anything about punk? Sid is far from defining it.. unless you're defining sell-outs.. While they weren't a horrible band, and they certainly aren't along side of the monkees as someone said, since they did play their instraments and write some songs, they WERE sell-outs as far as punk goes. I'll admit the Clash was a better mainstream punk band too, at least they didn't try to act like they were still real punk, and branched out with their music.

SOD IT

2001-12-18 11:52:58 AM
CanuckGuy - you mean the place on King's Road, originally called "Sex" (now that's controversial, woo woo), and later renamed "Seditionaries." Anyone here remember Malcolm McLaren trying to make it as a solo "artist?" - "Buffalo Gals go round the outside," whatever that means...

MojoGobo: The Pistols were ONLY a punk band, even though their antics were pretty funny at the time. The Clash were far more than that.

2001-12-18 11:54:46 AM
It's pretty hard to imagine 70's England without them. Ridiculous to consider 21st century England with them.

Who killed Bambi?

2001-12-18 11:55:06 AM
Real punk. Yes. Punk isnt just a variety of music. Its A LIFE STYLE. Everything is a farking life style now a days..... I'm bored with it.

2001-12-18 11:55:37 AM
This is the opposite of cool.

2001-12-18 11:56:19 AM
why is everyone acting like sid was such a freakin integral part of their sound or something?

prop his corpse up on stage, duct tape a bass to his hands. there ya go. just like the old days.

2001-12-18 11:56:20 AM
Cheez_Whiz: I'm with you. I'd never pigeonhole the Clash as only a punk band; that's just how they started. London Calling (not really a punk record) is one of the greatest rock records of all time, and anyone who disagrees shall be subjected to Cock and Ball Torture.

how many times can these ridiculous clods play the same 10 songs? give me Iggy!

2001-12-18 11:56:25 AM
Wow, the filter knocked Berklee WAY in the future. You're almost in tomorrow!

2001-12-18 11:57:03 AM
I agree, Iggy and the Clash, all the way!

2001-12-18 11:57:11 AM
oh, and the clash sucked.

2001-12-18 11:57:39 AM
As usual, they just want the money

2001-12-18 11:58:11 AM
cool?? ah no. if i didnt respect john lydens"im in it to steal your money, stupid"attitude id be sad.Face it though it was never about anarchy anyways, they were used to make a fortune for malcolm mclarens sex/fetish shops(and for himself) so it was allways about da' benjamins(did i really say that)

2001-12-18 11:58:39 AM
All I know is that The Ramones are going in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Gabba Gabba Hey !!!

Best Punk band ever ?
The Dead Kennedys IMO.

Dogbone: You're looking for "J'na cest quios". I spell poorly in French. Forgive me.
I know this only because I enjoy the use of obscure words and phrases. In another thread, someone used "bevy" and I was delighted.

p.s. My first ever concert was The Clash/The Who in San Fran. I am still a bit hard of hearing.

2001-12-18 12:00:36 PM
Johnny Lydon from PIL could kick Johnny Rotten's butt..
Well, he'd do something to his butt, that's for sure. Not sure I wanna know what, though.
Good thing these two haven't ever been photographed together.

2001-12-18 12:00:46 PM
best punk band ever: MISFITS

2001-12-18 12:00:49 PM
FishBulb - I don't think 25-30 years ago is concidered "now-a-days".. And yes, punk was a lifestyle, in England at any rate.. When it did hit the US it kind of turned into just music, that's really all that can translate over, but punk wasn't just the music, that was just the way to express yourself.. It was the way you lived, and punk was and still is anti-fame, and everyone defined a famous band still claiming to be punk as sell-outs.. That is why so many UK bands changed their style's name's to things like "New-wave".. most of the stuff on early '80s Mtv was on the punk scene 5 years before and sold out

2001-12-18 12:00:54 PM
I know they are "rock stars", but shait, they are 50-60 years old. Dress and act like your an adult. Sting is a classy dude.
