Shouldn't a cleric be true neutral?
2004-03-09 10:43:50 AM
Hopefully, he will not use his powers to launch a jihad against western interests but will take care of that gelatinous cube that ate my elf.

/has twenty-sided die cufflinks

/totally joking
2004-03-09 10:45:27 AM
No no no, druids have to be true neutral. Clerics' alignments depend on whatever god they follow.

/never getting a date ever.
2004-03-09 11:08:03 AM
Maybe now he can get back to his turning undead duties.
2004-03-09 12:55:54 PM
We'll sick Mrs. Cake on 'em. He'll never know what hit him.
2004-03-09 02:19:22 PM
Cleric alignment can only differ from his diety's by one step in either direction. The only way for him to go from chaotic to lawful evil while remaining within the "one step" rule is for the diety to be neutral evil. Hence, we can infer that Allah is a neutral evil diety.

2004-03-09 04:46:26 PM
Or his (b) creating(/b) undead duties...

Do not spill water on the Mogwai!
2004-03-09 04:47:15 PM
Actually, druids just have to be neutral, not true neutral. They can be neutral good, neutral evil, chaotic neutral, lawful neutral, or true neutral.
2004-03-09 04:47:25 PM

d+d, yes!

Monty Hall rules man, Die from a dart while wearing Plate Armour.
2004-03-09 04:49:06 PM
Spacemarinekilla: Except Cuthbert won't take chaotic people, despite being neutral good. Maybe allah is the same way? Not to mention I don't see many islamists casting "harm", so perhaps it can be assumed that Allah has stripped them of their powers?

Flying Squirrel: I don't remember how 2nd edition had things work out, but in 3.x druids have to have some sort of neutrality in your alignment (neutral good, chaotic neutral, etc.)

I frickin' rock

Its funny all the nerd references you miss when D&D was just about the RPG you *didn't* play.

Bashir was the co-founder of an Islamic boarding school in Solo on the island of Java. The school has spawned dozens of young militants, several of which have been convicted in the Bali bombings, which killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.

But no, he has nothing to do with terrorists. How do I know? Because he said so!
2004-03-09 04:51:13 PM
D&D jokes. Gimme a break.
2004-03-09 04:51:46 PM
Druids had to be True Neutral prior to 3rd Edition D&D (and Hackmaster's 4th Edition still requires them to be True Neutral).

Someone already pointed out that Allah must be Neutral Evil for a cleric to go from Chaotic to Lawful Evil and still serve the same god.

I had an undead doody last night - I had some super spicy hot burritos for dinner. With cheese. On the burritos.

And beans.

Kicked myself out of the apartment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a hockey-playing monkey is just about the best thing that's ever happened to Hollywood.

Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world. How long until America gets involved in another Asian land war? Jungle-themed, to boot.
2004-03-09 04:53:55 PM
As long as he's a low level cleric , who cares what alignment he is? Just hit him with a dose of magic missle and he'll go down like kobold.

How does a militant cleric involved in bombings that kill a group of people only getting a three year sentence ? This is almost as bad as someone in the US, possessing a small amount of drugs and is a non-violent offender, serving more jailtime than people who are either rapists or murderers.
2004-03-09 04:59:42 PM
Isn't Indonesia the country that cuts off one of your hands for stealing?
2004-03-09 05:02:25 PM
Reading this article and replies reminds me of this bit a comedian "God I wish I could remember his name" would do. He'd bring up an obviously geekish subject in a joke that ONLY a huge geek would laugh at, then he'd wait a few for the laughs to die down and scream "GEEK CHECK!" really loud and get a second laugh, kinda like a laugh afterburner or something. It had me on the floor laughing because I failed every geek check.

Yeah, he is like an evil Prof. Dumbeldore.

Nice to see that good ol' bribery and threats of violence against family members can still get you somewhere in today's world.

I would think that the fact that they've announced his releasal date means that several men in dark sunglasses will be waiting for him outside the prison.

At least, I hope.

Hey, I wonder what domains he uses? Death, Law and War maybe?

BTW - my goal in life is to be the first kid on my block to have a radical muslim death threat on my head.

Well, you can change alignment radically as a cleric, so long as you Atone. Of course, Tharizdun doesn't care what grade of evil you are, so perhaps that's who he converted to.

/didn't RTFA

Clerics are teh ghey, you want to be a Warrior.
2004-03-09 05:33:02 PM
If I remember correctly, back 25 years, clerics can only use maces as weapons.

I hope we have enough sense to have a sniper or 2 ready to resolve any lingering issues surrounding the release of scumbags like this. I was pleased to read that the jackoff who threw the old man in the wheelchair of the cruise liner suddenly croaked in an Iraqi prison. Let the good times roll!
2004-03-09 05:38:20 PM
My best NEVERWINTER KNIGHTS character was a Cleric. The rock to a shockingly high degree.
2004-03-09 05:38:28 PM
Nah, clerics by default can use all simple weapons, though each deity has a favored weapon that can be used by the cleric...or at least that's how the DMs I know play it.

/me likes 3e for dropping the stupid 2e restrictions
