And we can still get energy from nuked oil!

2004-03-08 12:18:38 PM
He added that "U.S. citizens could forget about ever getting Venezuelan oil" if the United States ever tried to invade.
Assuming that the United States failed to win a war against Venezuela.

NO BLOOD FOR OIL!!1011!!1

/mindless rant

Nice headline.

2004-03-08 12:20:34 PM
All we have to do is NOT buy their oil. Then we can just sit back and watch their economy and their country collapse. If the US Gov't wanted Chavez dead don't think he wouldn't be or couldn't be a pile of bones by this afternoon.

"Assuming that the United States failed to win a war against Venezuela."

Teehee. The US would not lose that war.

Besides... It's not about winning. It's about occupying.

2004-03-08 12:32:12 PM
If you won't buy their oil, we'll wait til they get REAL desperate, and REAL cheap, then we'll buy it.

Europe rules (badly)!

When rattling your saber, it should not sound like a pocketknife.

Fearing the sheer might of the Venzuelan navy...that is unless the president is using his sailboat that weekend.

2004-03-08 12:54:54 PM
I think Venezuelan women are hot. lets take them first.

2004-03-08 01:20:11 PM
I've seen air reconnaissance photos of Venezuela's army, and you don't want to mess with it.

2004-03-08 02:22:24 PM
Didn't they try this with Britain already?

2004-03-08 02:23:09 PM
Seriously though... Rumor has it that they have a 60-year-old US battleship in reserve for just such an occasion.

2004-03-08 02:33:42 PM
When this guy has millions of his own citizens petioning to get him thrown out of office, I don't think he'll be around in a hundred years time.

2004-03-08 02:34:20 PM
Further proof that people living close to natural oil deposits are all batshiat crazy.

I think only Patrick Swazye and his band of rebels hiding out in the Rockies can save us.

The Mother-in-Law of all wars??

2004-03-08 02:35:12 PM
Yeah, I can see the US getting involved in a quagmire in the jungle against an inferior enemy. Like that could ever happen.

And we are looking for a new, third member of the axis of evil since conquering Iraq, how convenient.

2004-03-08 02:38:06 PM
Looks to me like Chavez is doing a little attention-whoring.

We already had the "mother of all battles," so could we make this one the "drunk sweaty uncle of all battles"?

2004-03-08 02:38:51 PM
I think y'all are overlooking something. Supposedly, G.W. Bush has made the world realize that America is not to be trifled with again. You know, we were all strong and stuff, and even if everyone didn't agree with us, we said "Bring it on" and show we couldn't be messed with.

Result? Freaking Venezuela is mouthing off to us. How, exactly, has Bush improved our tough guy credentials if a country that's barely worth defending in Risk feels free to tell us to go fark ourselves?

Oh, and it doesn't matter if we don't buy their oil. Japan will. It's kind of a sellers market, dontcha know.

Oh, and I sincerely hope we're not ever stupid enough to invade "designed for guerilla warfare and crawling with heavily armed thugs" Venezuela. Let them sort out their issues on their own. And stop trying to topple their president.

2004-03-08 02:39:10 PM

Yeah threats work great, just keep waving that red cloth.

2004-03-08 02:39:52 PM

Hugo Chavez...
Didn't he used to tag-team with Eddie Guerrero?

Venezuela puts out a huge chunk of the world's oil, and it is one of the largest non-Middle East members of OPEC, producing nearly 2.5 million barrels of oil per day (third largest producer in OPEC). (Source: OPEC's website

If Venezuela wants to withhold its oil from the world market, that would have a significant impact on crude oil prices. With the Bush Administration already concerned about rising gas prices before the election, and with our strained relationships with many of the OPEC members, this would not be a welcome move.

Chavez has a right to be pissed...Bush has already backed a coup against him.

Some interesting information on this can be found here. Given the United States' history in Latin America, it doesn't surprise me one bit. What does surprise me, though, is how easily so many of you laugh this off in ignorance or apathy of the facts.

Didn't they sink a British carrier in the Falklands?

Oh, oh, somebody link to that Fark thread about unruly kids. Looks like Venezuela is ready to fall on the ground and start to throw a temper tantrum.

Yes, Venezuelan women are hot. One of the first girls in school I liked was from there.

2004-03-08 02:44:52 PM
hmm that funny Hugo, a Bolivar wannabe.
Anyway, it seems that Bolivar is still somebody only for the Venezolanos...

2004-03-08 02:45:09 PM
*shrug*
Yippee. Making threats against an extremely unlikely invasion, is he? If the US acted against him, I doubt it'd be as overt as an invasion in the absence of prolonged, extremely hostile mutual loathing. Maybe he'll next take credit for scaring off the US with this misdirected threat.

You're kidding, right? That was the Argentines.

2004-03-08 02:46:05 PM
He can sell his oil anywhere at the market rate. He's an elected leader, but he's a socialist so the US have been stirring up the middle class minority in his country to overthrow him, and have organised two failed coups. The world watches, snickers and goes to read some more Che, watch re-runs of American attempts to assasinate Castro.

Diesel vehicles run perfectly well on vegetable oil - America's Mid West could be born again.

2004-03-08 02:46:22 PM
Yes, caught the mistake. check two posts later.

Gavino: The best vegetable oil producing plant is the oil palm. We're screwed.

Europe rules (badly)!"

Europe is like that asian chick on Allstar Survivor. She sits around and waits for someone else to do the heavy lifting. When the real movers get around to her, she gives her rubber stamp to whoever is in control.

Proud to be a spineless sack o crap? We know your game and we have long memories.

swahnhennessy,

Yeah, workingforchange.com is a REEEALLLLLY great source for [snicker] objective journalism [guffaw].

What does surprise me, though, is how easily so many of you laugh this off in ignorance or apathy of the facts.

[alert: old joke ahead]

Am I ignorant or apathetic? Frankly I don't know and I don't care.

2004-03-08 02:51:24 PM
Hemp is pretty crappy for oil production (even corn is better if I recall), but it has other uses to offset that. Oil palms are still by far the best oil producing crop. Nothing comes close.

2004-03-08 02:52:44 PM
1. Does Venezuela have chemical weapons?
2. Has Chavez tried to obtain yellow cake uranium in Africa?
3. Has Venezuela invaded Peru?
4. Does Venezuela have any petroleum reserves to speak of?

Which of the above 4 questions would make Venezuela most likely to experience a Haliburton US government target?
Though I'm sure George would be more interested in the coca crops...

The President Hugo Chavez (of Venezuela) vs. President Bush?

Hmmm?

Saddam Hussein = Pwn3d!
Qusay Hussein = Pwn3d! x10
Uday Hussein = Pwn3d! x10
Osama bin Laden = Running away from inevitable pwn3rsh1p.
Charles Taylor = Fled Liberia (wisely).

Hey Hugo, put a sock in it, until the Republicans are out of office.

Is it just me or is the world full of half crocked power hungry psychos, while the other half is full of people not from the US?
