Well, bravo! Hahaha!

2004-03-06 10:58:17 AM
Darwin saved him?

2004-03-06 10:59:48 AM
Another Darwin Award averted. DAMN!

2004-03-06 11:00:49 AM
Traffic is already bad enough without some asshat furthering the road rage dramatics.

2004-03-06 11:01:47 AM
Maybe he was protesting the Big Brother antics of... oh fark it, he was just plain suicidal.

Was Allen Funt lurking in the shrubs?

"Smile!..."

raindown: Another Darwin Award averted. DAMN!

No. Not a Darwin. A Darwin has to be someone who inadvertently dies by his own stupidity.

Although suicide is quite stupid, it is not eligible.

2004-03-06 11:12:14 AM
"Oh jim's not home yet, I think he's hung up in traffic"

2004-03-06 11:13:16 AM
Suicide is most definitely eligible. All that's required is not reproducing first.

2004-03-06 11:13:37 AM
Maybe he was a surfer dude trying to hang ten . . . km/h.

/mwaahahahahah

2004-03-06 11:14:44 AM
Anybody else thinking they meant a high speed camera??

Good thing I read the article and realize what they meant by speed camera.

2004-03-06 11:14:56 AM
Speed cameras KILL!!!

Think of the suicidal maniacs!

2004-03-06 11:15:41 AM
Use the trees.

2004-03-06 11:16:30 AM
you know, if this happened in the U.S. they probably could have found some laws that he broke, and would have tried to prosecute him. I like how instead of persecuting this guy, they realized he had some problems and was distraught.

Maybe you Europeans have a better understanding about things eh?

/sick and tired of our farked up society.

Finally my city gets a mention on Fark, and it's for this?!

2004-03-06 11:25:25 AM
Attemping suicide is against the law all by itself, Nostrafarkus.

Obviously the UK now needs to install cameras to pervent suicide.

Still, props to the two people who saved this guy's life. You did a good thing.

"I've never heard of anyone trying to hang themselves from a speed camera before. It is bizarre behaviour."

There is a reason why suicidal behavior is consider a sign of mental illness.
Although this seem a bit odder than usual. Classic cry for help. People who are serious go to someplace quiet, solitary and plan to prevent being interfered with. While I'm sure this gentleman was distraught--he also strikes me as a bit of a drama-queen.
I am interested in that the laws in America would have required at minimum a three day voluntary stay, or in lieu of the person committing themself--involuntary committment for the 72 hr. observation period.
Going home with Mum? Don't know if that's the best idea...

Defacing government property?

Most of the people who have won Darwins have been the cause of their own demise. I don't see how this is any different.

2004-03-06 11:38:32 AM
The two motorists who cut him down were heroes? The guy was asking to be cut down by being in front of traffic in the first place. Somebody would've saved him eventually, I guess it doesn't take much to be a hero.

Anyway, I think in the US they could probably get him for Disturbing the Peace, he put his body into a swinging motion and apparently started a commotion.

2004-03-06 11:38:46 AM
This guy was clearly distraught about something.

gosh Wales Jackass must be really strict on their video acceptance policy.

From the article...
"This guy was clearly distraught about something."

Ya think?!?

You know what I don't get? Why is suicide illegal? Religionists will say it's "against God's will" or some other bullshiat, but why should the state care? "Oh no, we can't allow our taxpay...err CITIZENS to kill themselves and deplete our treasuries so we can't pay for all the communistic social programs and foreign wars..."

Hey, I say if someone hates themself, their life, and everyone they know enough to just want to end it all, let them! Go right ahead! I want to see blog sites like this with numbers that say "42!"...The number of people who successfully commited suicide this week!

Ah fark it.

2004-03-06 11:49:11 AM
Bravo Killroy69!

2004-03-06 11:57:49 AM
See what happens in a country without guns. Losers can't even kill themselves adequately.

2004-03-06 12:25:43 PM
So he was on speed, and had a camera?
The moral of the story:
DONT DO DRUGS!

Actually, it's the insurance companies. They lobbied to make suicide "illegal" so as to not have to pay off policies. Same thing with "criminal behavior" and fire insurance. If you're growing pot, running a brothel or doing anything else illegal and your house catches on fire--they don't have to honor the policy. Why do you think police officers show up at house fires?
"To serve and protect"? More like "To search and detect"...
That's why in the states you are remanded to the custody of a mental health/medical facility after expressing ideation or an attempt. The jails really would rather not have a potential lawsuit sitting in a cell contemplating how to strangle themselves with their underwear.

raindown: Most of the people who have won Darwins have been the cause of their own demise. I don't see how this is any different.

He WANTED to die: not eligible. For a Darwin, your own stupidity must be the trigger, not depression or somesuch.

My best friend killed himself on Wednesday. Our entire school is extremely distraught and upset, his poor family and siblings are inconsolable, and on Monday I have to carry him to his grave. It shouldn't be like that. So don't tell me:

"I say if someone hates themself, their life, and everyone they know enough to just want to end it all, let them! Go right ahead! I want to see blog sites like this with numbers that say "42!"...The number of people who successfully commited suicide this week!"

Let's celebrate the number of people who are so young and so very unhappy--great idea. So if your son kills himself, you'll go to this website and tell them to "ADD ANOTHER ONE, woohoo!" Jackass

chamith7:

I'm sorry about your loss. My sympaties.

You must feel pretty down. You should know better than to come on Fark in such times. Fark is for when you want to purge the routine by exposing yourself to the moronic and wicked ways of humanity. Don't come to this site unless you're in such a mindset, because you'll just be frustrated and feel worse.

Now, if insulting people is just the thing for you to releive your pain, have at it. But be prepared to get slapped back.

2004-03-06 01:50:38 PM
Yeah, sorry to hear about that chamith7. I've had friends do the same thing. Hell, I think everyone has had people they knew off themselves. Tough times.

But I'm with Killroy69 on this one. Fark is no place to be for group hugs.

2004-03-06 03:55:58 PM
Did they catch it on tape?

2004-03-06 03:59:16 PM
Finally, I get to bust a journalism major with an improper use of the word "who".

Police say the man was spotted at the junction by motorists some of who called the police on mobile phones.

Ahem....that should be "some of whom called the police...."

2004-03-06 04:31:36 PM
Gimme a break. Why would anyone serious try and kill themselves during rush hour on a busy street? If youre going to cry for help pick up the phone.

2004-03-06 06:50:10 PM
WTF is a speed camera?? Goddamn British; can't they get the languague straight! Took me forever to figure our what a football pitch was. And don't get me started with there "pensioners" and "randy" people and ..

I protest the gratuitous use of the word "ligature" in this article

Okay. Duly noted.

Though I won't be clicking on the PS tribute to our friends who opted out early....

Feeling down, eh?
There's only one answer to that......
