Oh my god!!! This is a great site... I've been a fan of them things ever since I can remeber. The baked are good, but you havn't lived until you've had the fried!!!! MMMMM....

2001-12-17 10:06:43 AM
Nice tag.

2001-12-17 10:12:24 AM
I actually called McDonalds about this a few months ago, they said that any franchise that is too small to hold their ovens for baked pies will have fried pies instead..
I was told that most of the McDonalds inside walmarts carry the fried pies....

2001-12-17 10:13:18 AM
and yes, I was bored that day

2001-12-17 10:14:03 AM
Anyone who is dumb enough to eat at McD's, deserves to eat fried pies.

2001-12-17 10:14:48 AM
I think they should use the Baby Jesus ButtPlug for the "PLUG" tag/icon.... ;)

2001-12-17 10:21:18 AM
Maybe Leonard needs to lay off the tofu for a moment and tell us why "dumb" people like McDonalds, and what's wrong with a fried pie. I bet he's never even had one.

2001-12-17 10:24:51 AM
And if you're ever feeling especially decadent, order a fried pie and a small vanilla shake in a large cup. Add pie to cup. Mash up and enjoy. :)

Checkers has good fried apple pies.

Now if only there would be a sighting in AZ....... As a former McDonalds addict, I can tell you that I was so distraught when they took away the fried pie.......I mean hey, everyone wants to jump on the 'cook healthier' bandwagon, but of all the things on their menu to change, they had to change the pie?!
How about we start a petition that we can send to McD's asking them to bring back the fried pies (they can have the baked ones too for all those people who want to pretend to be eating healthy when in reality, I mean come on, you're at McD's, don't kid yourself). OK, who's with me?

2001-12-17 10:26:08 AM
Leonard's statement didnít make sense, 'Anyone goes to a restaurant, deserves to get food.'

2001-12-17 10:30:06 AM
MyTwocents. The fried pies were great, and I agree they should have them, they are after all, McDonalds.

A) The Apple pies have some sort of apple flavoring, but it isn't all apple.

B) The crust of the pie and the goo inside has plenty of fat, so deep frying them wont do too much more damage.

Damn they were good.

Why dumb paople like McD's

1. They like pimply faced teenagers to cook for them.

2. The like the above to spit on their food

3. They are lazy to search out real restaurants.

4. They like hamburgers patties that are sliced while they are in frozen tube form at a central patty complex and not made by hand.

I've eaten at McD's at in times of "extreem" hunger and ie. travelling cross country on highway service centres.

2001-12-17 10:32:19 AM
they were good because they were fried in the same oil they used for fries.. which is flavored with beef tallow.... so they are basically beef flavored apple pies :)

2001-12-17 10:43:43 AM
mmmmmmmmmmm... fried pie.

Man that stuff was sooooooo good. I hate the baked.

2001-12-17 10:46:03 AM
I always wondered why they changed over to baked. I would give my left nut for a fried apple pie!

2001-12-17 10:47:59 AM
I have a Mc Pie Story..

Back in 1992, I just got a new car. I stopped at Mc D's, picked up lunch and a pie, and drove to my friends house. I ate lunch but left the pie. I let him drive my new car around the block. When he came back, he had eaten my pie.

I went back the next day to Mc D's and I was told that the pie was discontinued, and they wouldn't be making any more. EVER.

I have hated Jeff to this day. But now there is a chance for our friendship to be restored. If I can only find a pie...

2001-12-17 10:49:46 AM
mmmmmm beef tallow.

2001-12-17 10:49:58 AM

I would think that if I were traveling 'cross country' I would plan ahead and perhaps try something like a 'real restaurant" to get a taste of the area... Yet, I've never encountered "extreme hunger" on the highways in the US though.

Canada must be some kind of Ethiopia that we don't know about or something. I'll send the red cross up to investigate. j/k

Anyway, I'm not saying that eating Mc Donald's every day is a wise thing to do, but ruling them out all together is so sad. You're missing out on so much flavor... Anyone who has ever had one of them fried pies knows how good they were!

2001-12-17 10:51:45 AM
Quibx... no offense intended, but what's worse: having a "Mc Pie" story -- or actually be willing to share it with others?

I got food poisoning at the 30th street station McD's in Philadelphia. I was sick for about 12 hours straight. Ever since then, I try not to eat at McDonalds (or BK wendy's, etc..) IMHO, they all suck ass..... I don't think I have ever had a fried pie, but it does sound good..... Baked is good too... Anyway, the fact that you can't get them any more is most likely related to having a republican in office... Bush is a moron. We need some intellignet democrats back in office. Clinton did a good job, not like the current loser we have......

Leonard likes Coq au vin.

I sure do, I wont apologize for it, but I like the occasional burger, but I dont go to any of the fast food conglomerates, I like those small burger joints run by immigrant families. I especially like the part were you tell the guy what condiments you want on it while he assembles it in front of you, and usually they have a huge selection, BBQ sauce, mayo, fried onions, tsatsiki sauce and dont get me started with the milkshakes.

2001-12-17 11:01:08 AM
I like to lick pie

Your right! but when you have to drive to Baltimore in 8 hours (from Toronto) or to St. Pete's FLA in 24 hours there isn't much time for sight seeing, the closest we've come to haute cusine on US highways is those Craker Barrel Restaurants.

Gr00vey,

You sure it was food poisoning? It might have been from sucking that homeless guy's dick so you could get money to super size your fries.

Very clever, Fb-, you think of that all by yourself?

Are there any posts worthy of reporting to the FBI?

Leonard_Cohen,

Well, I thought I saw your mom licking a dog's anus over on third street this morning. I'm not sure they'd be interested though.

I'm starting to think you work for fark and multiple people at fark use the Fb- account, that would explain the inconsistant posts.
You post shiate, then you wait for responses and it goes on and on, the hit rate increases, banners get more exposure, fark makes a couple of greasy bucks.

Scientists Find shocking link between fried-pie-hunters and "Glandular problems"

Said one still-grease-mouthed porker, "Weight issues just seem to run in my family. I just LOOK at a piece of cake and gain five pounds....No, I said a BAKER's dozen to go!!"

Said another, "I don't usually eat like this. Really. I'm studying for a part in a movie with Wynona Ryder, where we play a couple of cleptomaniac, pie-addicted fiends."

2001-12-17 11:44:13 AM
Yes, but what about the fried CHERRY pies? I used to actually ride my bike to McDonald's when I was a kid just to get those things (and no, I'm not a big fat ass - I guess all that pedaling made up for the calories and fat in the pies).

2001-12-17 11:44:26 AM
Yum..McD's fried apple pies.

I miss them.. the baked ones can't hold a candle to the fried ones.

My son had a sleepover this weekend. We went to McD's for lunch on Saturday.

ICK.

2001-12-17 11:50:40 AM
Hmmmmmm. Last I saw the fried pies was over in England, actually, though that was...ACK!!!...*seven* years ago!

The filling in those things is so hot that I was pretty sure that McD's had harnessed fusion and used it to heat the insides of the pies.

Leonard Cohen, do you still make new music, or have you devoted your time to playing the "intellectual" on fark.com?
I bet you dont like TV too, Oh how continental of you!
boring boring boring,
eat more fried foods.

Leonard, there is a word for people like Fb-, TROLL. He just posts things to rile people. Ignore him. As for McDonalds, I think that most of the small ones in Wall-Mart are franchise stores, as opposed to alot of the stand-alone locations that are ran by McDonalds Corp. There is a little fun fact for you. I went to an McDonalds in a Wall-Mart once and went to order a double quarter pounder w/cheese. THEY DIDN'T HAVE IT!!! They didn't have anything with those delicious quarter pound patties. All they had were those pansy ass 1.6 ounce patties that they use on the cheeseburgers. So you see, fried pies come with a price.

2001-12-17 12:27:33 PM
That's another thing I loved when I lived in the Philippines. (Besides cheap things and the great nightlife) Every single McDonalds all over the country still fries their pies.

2001-12-17 12:29:33 PM
It took me 3 years to realize something was different with those things. I'll sign any petition that brings back the fried pies.

2001-12-17 12:41:40 PM
I don't think the baked apple pie even exists outside US and its immediate neighbors, I've sampled lots of pies in Europe (all the way to former east block countries) and in Asia (from tropics to wintery China) and never had anything else except the fried pie.

Mikelambert-
As I recall, the McDonald's in the Carrefour in Warsaw (specific enough?) had the baked version. Which was a shame. Nothing better on a cold rainy day in Poland than a nice fried apple pie. The Bastages, they denied me. The baked pie sufficed, but just isn't the same.

2001-12-17 12:54:03 PM
Apple Pie...Hmmm

Shouldn't Rei be in here raising hell?
"You bad Apple Pie Joe, You baby killer American Apple Pie"

"Hey Joe, while you out fighting bad fight, everyone at home
going to eat Cherry Pie"
[/badengrish]

You know, that kindda thing.
Oh, wait, maybe she's on the baseball thread.

I love TV and I love food, unfortuanatly they have both been dumbed down.

The McD's pies remind me of fruit filled eggrolls, a few years ago they test marketed pizza at McD's up here, they weren't bad, but if they didn't have any made it took ages for them to make you one. Did they have pizza in the US?

As I recall, the McDonald's in the Carrefour in Warsaw (specific enough?) had the baked version.

I'm sure if you asked politely they would have throw your pie in the Polish tallow filled deep frier.

Leonard_Cohen:
Yea, for a very short time. We still get a case of the little pizzas from time to time. (BTW, I work at McDonalds) I don't understand why we get them, we don't sell them. But, they don't taste too bad. We usually bake a few of them when we are not busy and slack off in the crew lounge eating pizza. Sure they take a while to bake if they don't have any made, but your better off in the long run. I would wait 12 minutes to ensure i'm not stuck eating something that looks, feels, and tastes like cardboard because it has been sitting in a warming tray for 4 hours. Oh, and here is another fun McDonalds hint. If it is past noon, DON'T ADD BACON. Most McDonalds stores have a little sign that begs you to add beacon to any sandwich. At my store and at all the stores in my area, (I assume it's pretty much the same everywere) the beacon that we have made is left over from breakfast. Brakfast ends at 11:00.
